The Garfield Movie

Didn't hate it or love it, it's just Meh and it certainly doesn't feel like a Garfield movie whatsoever. Humour was hit or miss and the worst part is I've never seen so many advertisements in a kid's animated movie ever, I had to remind myself it wasn't a 90-minute Super Bowl ad. Chris Pratt as Garfield worked and the rest of the voice cast were fine.

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes

That last 20 min ruined it for me I just couldn't take it seriously. It just seemed like there were more and more apes than what we saw throughout the film, and even worse where were the police at the end.

28 Days Later

The fact this movie looks like it was shot with a flip phone made the experience even more intimidating and scary.
Also, I can't believe that there wasn't a single broken-down vehicle on the motorway.

How come the talking doll didn't give it away?
Out of all the things, the black puffer vests worn by the gorillas are without a doubt the funniest part to me.

Transformers: 40th Anniversary Event

Wtf were their ads at the start and end?
I'm a big fan of the Transformers franchise but sadly as a kid, I never had the opportunity to watch the original animated show so seeing it on the big screen for the first time unfortunately wasn't an enjoyable watch and sadly doesn't hold up nowadays.
Watching the original voice cast do their thing again for the pilot episode was good and the little bloopers were funny.

Arcadian

I like the cast, the story is nothing new but even for a low budget have seen better CGI (terrible creature design) and without a doubt, the worst part is the camera work way to shake.

The First Omen

I haven't seen The Omen (1976) or any of the other ones after that. First, the few positives are the whole movie is beautifully shot throughout credit to the cinematographer and as for the lead actress Nell Tiger Free as Margaret, she was good and anyone who watched her on Servant, you'll probably enjoy her performance. This movie is similar to Immaculate which was also released about a month ago but this is disappointing with it being way too long, repetitive, a little bit predictable and kinda weak for a horror.

Baghead

Cool concept but unfortunately poorly executed while being entirely boring and eventually predictable. For horror, it isn’t scary and the other annoying thing was that they were warned that the entity shouldn’t be talked to longer than 2 minutes but they never once used that advice and wonder why shit went bad. What a strange decision to set this in Berlin, why not in England when you have English characters and an English pub?
I wouldn’t recommend it.

How can you make your first movie and decide to have your mum be eaten out.

Seize Them!

Meh
Didn't like it or hate it really, feels like a Horrible Histories spin-off. I hate to say it but the two kings made me giggle sorry.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Well well well it’s exactly what I wanted/expected from the good to the bad. I wasn't expecting Godzilla: Minus One quality so as long as I got a colourful Royal Rumble of monsters beating the crap out of each other I'm certainly in for a fun ride so I was but unfortunately lost a few brain cells during my experience with this especially. This movie is fun but at the same time, it's so dumb which was kinda expected, if the goal after the previous one was to make it more fun and even dumber then they exceeded. Was that whole secret civilization really necessary especially the kid like why do they continue to make humans an essential part of the story seriously nobody cares about these characters. A couple of final things to mention how is Rebecca Hall's character somehow reading a bunch of straight lines and somehow giving a very detailed story so stupid but not as ridiculous as not to mention the hundreds of thousands of people killed in that final fight scene in Rio?

If you're willing to lose a few brain cells then definitely give it a go.

Origin

I had a lovely time watching this, I thoroughly enjoyed Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor's performance but unfortunately, there were plenty of moments that felt when it came to the emotional weight the main character was dealing with, just didn't hit as strongly for me. I do not know the book and have no interest in reading it so when it comes to the thesis being presented I am simply not intelligent enough to make a constructive comment. It's definitely 30 minutes too long and I kinda concluded that the material would have been more suited to a documentary-style film. The whole thing around what goes on in India to this day is something I didn't know which left me quite shocked.

Night Shift

Boring until the twist came in the last 20 minutes which didn't make it entirely terrible but nothing we hadn't seen before.

The Descendants

Kissing the other wife like that was crazy. I thought this was gonna be a lot sadder but if anything I felt sorry for George Clooney’s character. If any woman cheats on you with Matthew Lillard and you look like George Clooney I'm pulling the plug ASAP no hesitation.

Irish Wish

I only watched this because Lindsay Lohan is in it and is having a bit of a resurgence but even with that it's totally cringe, stupid and predictable.
Why did Jane Seymour need to be in this?

Damsel

The best part for me was the CGI dragon.
MBB is ok as the lead, one minor thing that bothered me was that I noticed she suddenly had more lip gloss in that egg scene.
Angela Bassett felt so out of place, who honestly thought that she would be a good choice to play Ray Winstone's wife and her English accent wasn't believable.
Was Robin Wright not bothered doing an English accent or if she couldn't do one why cast her, weird decision.

Overall it's nothing special and is unmemorable.

Ricky Stanicky

John Cena was by far the funniest/best part of this. Zac Efron was fine but it's Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler who just didn't do it for me when it comes to the chemistry as best friends with Zac. It has its funny, memorable moments for sure and the runtime could've been shorter.

Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate

I thought it was going to be at least better than Madame Web. It’s so bad I couldn’t even finish it unlike Madame Web somehow. Who honestly made the decision to not bring back the original voice cast, shocking decision and the last thing is the animation is atrocious, did I completely miss the memo or was this made for toddlers?
The Megamind: The Button of Doom had better animation as well as the original voice cast and it's a 15-minute short film.

Gassed Up

Unimaginative.
It was nothing that I hadn't seen before, and there was enough story to keep me to the end despite none of the main characters being remotely likeable but I won't take away the solid performances, especially by Stephen and Taz. There was a missed opportunity to dive deeper into the relationships between the young lads and their parents.

Madame Web
  • This makes Thunder Force look like a masterpiece.
  • Why was everyone allergic to say Spiderman, Sony owns the bloody character?
  • One of the worst villains ever and despite that I still wanted him to kill those girls.
  • Can we stop making the hottest actress in the group the geek, a less confident, sweet and innocent character because no one is buying it seriously.
  • This is the result of hiring the worst writers in the industry.

Morbius was better…

The Kitchen

Daniel Kaluuya’s director debut is sadly a disappointing boring sci-fi that just takes too long to get going or even go anywhere, unfortunately. The 2 main characters are not dislikable but not likeable either. The world and setting are by far the only interesting parts to take out of it sadly not the characters so I'll probably never watch this again and I find it hard to even recommend.

As a football fan watching Ian Wright act and play Lord Kitchener actually worked.

ClearMind

It's an interesting premise trying to make it with a low budget I'll give it credit for the attempt. The first hour was fine but it was the final act that let itself down, especially the acting which was poor when trying to deliver a dark comedy horror.

The Family Stone

What an amazing all-star cast.
With such an amazing cast this movie isn't great. A lot of reviews mention the fact the tone is all over the place and quite messy which I kind of agree with but it didn't bother me whatsoever. The whole family dynamic mixed with the different tones worked for me and as plenty of humorous moments with a nice touching ending.

Badland Hunters

At first, it looked good but quickly became silly and somehow entertaining at the same time with a stupid villain. The final act was so stupid it had too many problems/moments to point out. I don't drink but this is something you watch when your shit-faced.

Mean Girls

As a musical, it totally worked for me and I appreciate that they didn't just make a straight-up copy-and-paste remake but it's not a complete remake, as a whole it plays the same but with a lot of singing and dancing. Like a lot of remakes, nowadays they never try to make it stand out from the originals.

Brilliantly cast especially Jaquel Spivey as Damian who was the funniest part of the movie (that electric scooter scene had me lol) and Reneé Rapp came in with the Regina energy. Thoroughly entertaining and the music was pretty decent. Nice surprise cameo towards the end.

Migration

Migration is exactly what I thought it was going to be beautiful animation with, a great voice cast (especially from Danny DeVito and whoever plays Qwen also Awkwafina is way overused nowadays) with some humorous moments, entertaining throughout and a pretty basic generic story. One of Illumination's least memorable films but not the weakest.

Players

From the trailers, this looked fun and entertaining and it was for the first 45 minutes. Gina Rodriguez and the group dynamic were the most enjoyable part. As a comedy, it has its moments but when the double date scene arrives it becomes so cringe and all over the place especially when it comes to a not-so-believable ending.

Was that meant to be a Nintendo Switch or a PSP that looks like one?
AI-generated voices can do a better job of delivering these lines.

How can you have a cast like this and somehow make everyone look crap?
- The first act which is the best part is from Kingsman: The Secret Service.
- The second act is the crap from Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
- As for the final act well honestly I don't fucking know, I was gonna suggest those scenes were something straight out of a recent Fast and Furious movie but as funny as this may sound that would have been insulting. That skating scene especially is up there as one of the stupidest scenes ever. The Bryce Dallas Howard character twist was a total miscast in the end.
- Matthew Vaughn needs to find that magic again from Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and certainly the first Kingsman: The Secret Service if he thinks he can keep making movies like this with massive budgets.

The Boys in the Boat

Definitely a bunch of boys in a boat.
A lot of people found it boring so I kinda went in expecting it to be like that and surprisingly I didn't but I certainly understood why people felt like that.
I'm a big sports fan so I was intrigued by the story even though I don't follow or watch the sport. All the performances were fine. It's just no one stood as great. The cinematography was good especially when it came to the boat scenes which I found to be the most satisfying moments. The pacing is without a doubt the biggest problem for me and definitely for a lot of others as well I guess. The start takes its time which was ok but it's after that where it's way too slow and just when you think they're gonna speed it up they take their foot off the pedal.
As a whole, I found it to be quite good but definitely not something I'll be watching any time in the near future.
