This movie had everything going for it: a strong story, wonderful actresses, good music and excellent cinematography. However, to me, the ending feels tacked on and undoes some character development. Many may see nothing wrong with it, but, it seems SHOCK VALUE was what they went for, instead of a thriller with morality, a morality the film maintained until the last minute and a half.
It's OK but not original.
And a little dumb and slow sometimes.
And the ending?
If mom was already in prison why would she give the pills anyway? Payback? Weak script..
Good movie until the plot twist. After that everything changes... to worst.
They tried too hard at the end, the last 15 minutes feel like they belong to an completely different film. But besides that "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a decent and mysterious sequel to a surprisingly good film.
(And like others mentioned here before, it's better to watch it without knowing anything about; e.g. trailers, but actually that should count for every movie...right?)
I don't know why, but I actually liked this, the whole "skype-desktop" thing worked for me, it was original. And I actually got scared at one time which never happens to me while watching horror movies, and I've watched some that are considered "the best ones". The last seconds were kinda unnecessary though.
I know this is a 1980 movie and movies have come a long way since then, but man this movie sucks so bad! Nothing is serious about this movie, even the ratings are way stretched, the fade transition between scenes is appaling and the story is a 5 minutes made 144 minutes, I literally had to speed the movie 30% to keep it watchable. All in all, this movie is a true meme!
Absolutely amazing, a must-see for everyone, I think. Despite the subject, the film manages to be almost hopeful, yet it doesn't shy away from the details or romanticize the recovery. The attitudes of the people followed are inspiring. It didn't leave me anxious, as many documentaries, articles and books about rape have. Overall one of the best documentaries I've seen, would be very suitable to show, for example, in a high-school health class.
Watching MEAN GIRLS for the first time was just one "Oh, so that's where that comes from!" after another. #iunderstoodthatreference
Wonderful interviewee who's been on death row (in the USA) for ages, describing his experiences and his life, and what led him to where he currently is. Great one, mainly due to himself and his style of telling.
Tight, claustrophobic and intense, there's also a fresh bit of levity with some of the humor in it. It's a good little disaster/survival film that works at showing the value of life. Korea's been killing it with their output lately.
Takes the heist thriller genre and does wonders with it! Highly intelligent and tense plot aptly supported by a superb cast- this couldn't possibly have been any more thrilling. Had me on the edge of my seat waaaay too many times. Also loved how family and friendship sentiments were interwoven, ultimately boiling down to a study on morality as well.
Quite disappointed with the movie, some of the dialogues seem stupid, and the rhythm of the movie is so slow... Many people are saying that this movie is perfect, but what I see is a failed attempt of a homorromantic movie that lays in clichés and high class lifestyle that bores me to death. Also, the apricot scene is between awkward and disgusting. Otherwise, at least the soundtrack is very interesting.
A bad attempt on what could have been an unforgettable summer love story. "Call Me by Your Name" fails in every aspect of It. It's dull, empty and forced.
From beginning to end there's no exploration of any kind. The characters don't have the depth they should have which makes the love story lacking dynamism and vivacity.
The first part of the movie is tedious and uninteresting. An hour of unnecessary scenes, that could easily be cut out, with brief dialogs of direct questions/answers, without emotions or sensibility from any character. A missed opportunity to invest in the character denseness and build their relationship. The movie doesn't give enough space for the sensations and attraction between them to evolve and, with that, we end up not caring, at all, with their bonding. All we see is a shallow relationship based, purely, in sexual encounters.
Less is more so it would have been great to see that. Less scenes, less scenarios and less dull actions and conversations. It's a movie that should concentrate merely in the connection between them and not on how beautiful the background is or how kind and aware Elio's parents are. The minor characters are completely pointless and don't bring absolutely nothing to the film.
The only positive aspect is Timothée Chalamat, In the second part of the film. He really pushes Elio's character and ends up with a very solid and strong performance. The ending shot was absolutely breathtaking. Apart from Timothée's acting, Sufjan Stevens enhanced this scene with "Mistery of Love", making one of the best ending scenes of the year. Undeniably, he deserves to win Best Original Song at the 90th Academy Awards.
Well, I gave it a fair try. I didn't think I'd like this story/film and I didn't. A young sexually inexperienced boy and an older grad student. For me the inequalities of experience, maturity and attraction bordered on child abuse and, although the boy was the aggressor, the adult should have maintained boundaries and trust. It was too uncomfortable for me and was anything but a love story. I know I am expressing a minority opinion (it has been nominated for 4 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay) but I rate it a 3 (bad) out of 10. There was nothing commendable about this movie to me with the exception of the location, which was strikingly beautiful, and the soundtrack, which was perfectly matched to the internal thoughts of the characters. If Halle Berry is in he cast, I really don't care who is there with her. Just seeing her for 94 minutes is enough.
Now, this film made it's budget back on opening weekend. The next weekend almost doubled that, and ever weekend after that it was more that double, sometimes triple. This is a good omen. When a film gets more money every week, the word of mouth is driving business, and we can expect a good thriller.
Seeing the action in a 911 call center was exciting and informative. It is no surprise that a mistake can be made in the heat of the moment. The hard part is that a simple mistake can have disastrous consequences.
Berry was outstanding as the 911 operator, and Abigail Breslin was magnificent at the abductee. She has come a long way from Little Miss Sunshine.
The film had you on the edge of your seat when it got going. It was innovative and the tension never let up. A bathroom break was impossible as you wouldn't dare miss a minute.
I am sure that there will be debate over the ending. As a fan of revenge films, I applauded it, but others may have reservations.
Intense. But the ending seems a bit disconnected.
Can't get over how bad this was. An utterly ridiculous premise with so many gaping plot holes, wooden acting and an ending that's telegraphed from the start. A major blot on Finchers portfolio, certainly his worst film and 3 hrs of my life I won't get back.
