There are multiple themes and I loved the way all of them are presented. The friendship between Jesper and Klaus, the father/son relationship, the spirituality around Klaus’s wife and his way of dealing with the passing of his wife,...
All the little details that makes this movie a Santa Klaus origin story is gold.
The animation style and the drawings are a bit old school but as soon as you are used to them, you are taken in a wonderful journey.

One of the best movie about AI I’ve seen. Liked the plot and especially the ending.
The fighting scenes were kind of awesome. Those camera moves and combat choreography made me think about The Matrix.
Is it me or Brad Cage looked more like Hugh Jackman than Brad or Cage? Or does it mean that if Brad and Cage had a son he would look like Hugh!? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
I liked the movie. It was an entertaining heist movie. It’s not a Zack Snyder movie. It’s not a zombie movie. It’s a Matthias Schweighöfer heist movie.
Matthias Schweighöfer is perfect in his role, his face and body expressions are so funny!
It was also great to see Nathalie Emmanuel. She’s just… extremely lovable which made her perfect for the role. I’ve seen her in Game of Thrones only before this.
Two less positive notes:
1) It was hard for me to take Jonathan Cohen seriously because I watched him in something else (La Flamme) and I thought his English acting needed some work.
2) It’s a shame that this movie didn’t come before Army of the Dead. It would have been a good introduction for the “main” movie even if, as I said, both movies have close to nothing in common expect some context.
PS: the guys that were in charge of the animation of the mechanisms inside the safes did an excellent job!
I still don’t understand why the Indian ex-special-force who is pretty skilled didn’t try to extract the boy on his own. Hiring a third party then piss them off by not paying them is a bit stupid.
Loved the camera work and the numerous fist and gun fight scenes. The slap on the face of the child-soldier was hilarious :joy:.
I didn’t care too much about the ex-wife and the sick then dead boy backstory. Why are these kind of character always half-alcoholic half-suicidal because they lost a member of their family?!?
All in all an entertaining action movie if you don’t pay too much attention to the script and the use of many cliché :sweat_smile:.
The first hour felt like 2… or 3 hours but keep on watching. The second half is better paced and has some Tarantino movie vibes.
The cast is amazing and the build-up really interesting. The back and forth in time is well done.
I really liked the narrator’s flow and spirit. I was happy to find out he’s the book author the movie is based on.

I love that the runtime is around 40min because Zoom. Pretty realistic if you ask me :joy:
This movie made me think about Tarantino more than once. The photography, the dialogues, the editing, the soundtrack, Jeff Bridges,...
Its not as beautiful but it’s close to it.
The casting is excellent. I didn’t like Chris Hemsworth that much. I mean he wasn’t all that bad but Jeff Bridges and Cynthia Erivo stole the show when he should have do it.
Honorable mention goes to Miles, the character. His awakening at the end was just so perfect.
The soundtrack is also perfect and add up to the tension. Cynthia Erivo’s voice almost always a cappella was so good.
I recommend this movie if you liked The Hateful Eight.

We're once again presented with a really skilled person dealing with alcoholism like it's the only weakness writers can come up with. Every movie about (ex- or about to be ex-) black-ops goes the same way. A trauma (usually family related) leading to alcoholism. Made me think about at least 5 other movies except this one really had nothing new to show shine.
There are also a lot of "how can a single person take that many hit without being completely broken at some point?” and “why are the 50 guys with automatic guns so bad at aiming while the 1 with the knife and the handgun kill them all?” moments :rolling_eyes:
And if that’s not enough, some characters are really acting stupid when they shouldn’t. I mean the whole, let’s send her in a trap, because she talked to the target, she won’t survive the heavy-military-guarded fortress she’s sent to. If that fails, let’s send just one trained-to-kill man after the trained-to-kill woman who just killed 50 trained-to-kill people. If that fails, let’s kill the man who trained the woman, send her a video to piss her off and go after her yourself. If that fails, the clearly bad-at-the-job daughter can follow the woman who killed everybody to make us think what?? I don’t know ¯\(ツ)/¯
A good cast but the rest falls short and it doesn’t make a good movie in the end.
The Black Manta side story was ridiculous. Over acted, over written, over the top. He looked like a Power Rangers bad guy. Wasn’t needed.
The love story building up like in a 90s movie. C’mon guys. Wasn’t needed.
We’ve had everything: colorful battles like a Thor Ragnarok but under the sea, spaceship battles like in the latest Star Wars, a reproduction of the end scene of The Fifth Element, a Lost (dinosaur) World, Power Rangers costumes, the mother’s alive and lives dressed like in How to Train Your Dragon 2, a really big inter-kingdom battle coming out of Lord of the Rings after the « the one true king » moment, a lot of King Arthur movies mashed up (just replace Excalibur with a trident),... we even had Avengers level jokes throughout the movie (not too much but still).
The soundtrack was sometimes good sometimes awful. Nothing to be remembered here.
The CGI was really good and the fight scenes and choreography were good. It was a superhero movie after all. They put the budget there (obviously).
Entertaining but nothing more.
Wanted to see more Dafoe on screen. Momoa is a badass Aquaman but sometimes Mera steels the show with better superpower.
I’m chocked that the after credit show Black Manta. I mean stop man. He’s a demi-god that you can’t hurt with the power of Thor’s trident hammer that can summon the biggest army of ocean creatures on earth. Stop your nonsense now unless you have Superman with you. This may be something I don’t like with the DC universe: heroes are too strong and/or villains too weak. They never seem to stand a chance.
That 9-year-old child is a solid actress! You can find her in Them on Amazon Prime with the same mother but in a totally different genre. As I said, solid actress.
Put your brain on “off” mode…
Then enjoy a mix of a bunch of movies and sci-fi concepts without expecting too much even if they try to wrap it with smart quotes and narration.
I would’ve loved this movie when I was 13. Now it made me smile and rolled my eyes a couple of times. But it entertained me for an evening.
Entertaining? Yes. Good? Not really.
Some jokes were good. The story has been seen a thousand times. The plot is not that good. Everything is sooooooo corny.
I had such a laugh at the scene with the self-driving taxi. The scene is so absurd. I mean, even if they could teleport themselves behind Ed Harris, there’s no way he couldn’t see them coming. We sure did!
Anyway, Geostorm was a climat-disaster-action-comedy with a lot of cgi kind of movie with a lot of US stereotypes seen in this genre. If you like the genre, you’ll like the movie. If you don’t, don’t overthink it or don’t watch it.
This is the first realistic heist movie. Loved that it’s not only about the heist but also about the way it affects the four protagonists, their families and the victim. The Ocean’s Eleven reference was perfect. Also, nice Reservoir Dogs reference. Not my favorite Tarantino either. Nobody wants to be Mr. Pink. Ever.
It is not based on a true story, it is a true story. The use of the real people is so awesome and cleverly done. It reminds you about the reality of the facts every time. Sure there are some things that may have been romanticized/faked by Warren. But it’s a four men story. And we see it clearly during the movie when they meet with the guy in New York. Warren and Spencer are just describing two different meetings.
The acting is crazy good too. It’s just crazy. Nothing else to say. Standing ovation for the actors.
You can also find a lot of really poetic moments like when the car drives in front of the real Spencer before the heist and at the very end from both perspective or when Spencer crosses the way of the flamingo.
The movie is a bit slow at some points but it builds up to be a 10 for me. Highly recommended even if I understand it can be a love or hate kind of movie.
I didn’t expect anything from It. I didn’t see the first cinematographic adaptation. I didn’t read the book. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the movie a lot. It didn’t feel that scary to me but I loved the story (duh), the acting and the overall atmosphere of the movie.
I liked the 80s style. It made me think about Stranger Things and The Goonies. I think it is mostly due to the actors, characters and the setting of the movies/show. Kids in dark and scary places underground.
The bully was maybe a bit too psycho-crazy for me. Felt a bit off. I was looking for a more violent death for him and the abusive father.
Incredible casting but no story or character development… like in a lot of other western movie.
One difference with other westerns is the music. I love this kind of music and it’s good to hear JAY-Z, Jadakiss or Lauryn Hill but I think it wasn’t a good fit for this movie style and the pace of the movie.
If you’re looking for a revisited western movie, with a great (partly black) cast and some good hip-hop with a western twist music, you’re better with Django Unchained.
This movie should be titled Jeff :robot:. That’s it. That’s my review.
This may be one of the saddest movie I’ve watched. Not an easy subject but an easy watch thanks to good writing, performance, direction,... did I mention writing and performance? Yes, twice!
The keys crafting and door unlock parts are some next level MacGyver stuff :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Also made me think about what Prison Break would be if it was a tiny bit realistic.
Anyway, not the greatest movie but the tension is so high it ends up to be highly entertaining.
Long story short : don’t lie. If you do, try to be clever when covering it.
Almost stopped before the end of the movie because the parents were acting stupid. Almost missed the final plot twist.
I loved it. Easily one of the best movies I watched recently and this year too.
The acting, the photography, the soundtrack, the story,... I loved everything about his movie.
Everything but one :point_up:. I think the scene where we see Thomas and Martha Wayne be killed was too similar to every time we see their death on tv. I would’ve loved to see another take on that one or at least not see the actual details. I would’ve preferred to see only the shot where we see Bruce over their dead body.

I didn’t expect to like this one that much. Not a big wrestling fan but the story and themes took me by surprise.
I still don’t understand how this movie is categorized as a comedy. Okay, some moments are funny but definitely more drama than comedy.
The Rock appeared just enough. Could have been too much.
Really disappointing. Wasn’t a big fan of the two first even if I found them bearable. This one hits a low point.
The storyline is just a succession of random stuff that just happen just to create bad jokes.
Woody was annoying for me. It felt like the chipmunks after a while. I don’t remember the cartoon so well but I don’t thinks Woody was sooooo annoying.
The kids liked the movie. They laughed when Woody farted or when he burped.
A lot of actions by the main characters are really dumb. I felt the need to explain my kids that’s not how we need to react to this or that. Also a lot of bad words/cursing in the movie.
I think the best thing about this movie was the old school cartoon after credit. For people not knowing Woody Woodpecker, I would suggest to watch the after credit before the movie.
I’m thinking the jokes and characters of the cartoon don’t translate well in the format they made the movie.
Enjoyed this movie a lot.
Reading the plot and seeing the movie arts, I feared to watch a rip-off of A Quiet Place. It wasn’t the case for me. Yes, it’s about a creature we don’t know much about that kill people. Okay, there‘s a boy and a girl. Yep, you can also check the pregnancy and delivery box. Oh and at the end, the disabled are the key because the creature can’t kill if you don’t have one of your 5 senses. But both movies are delivered differently. They touch the same subject in more or less the same way. But for me saying they are the same is like saying all Marvel and DC Comics movies are the same. It’s the result of an oversimplification of what those movies are.
If you look at it closely, this movie is not far from The Happening also. Again, not the same.
What I liked about this one is the acting and the unwrapping of the story. I loved John Malkovich in this one. A perfect asshole! All character are a bit a stereotype but it wasn’t too much a problem. They all deliver a more than good performance.
The budget and CGI, even if there’s not a lot of it, was pretty good.
I didn’t care to (not) see the creatures. It added to the mystery.
What I didn’t like was the too easy parts like the car scenes where they avoid everything just by using the proximity sensors and the gps, the running in the woods without hitting a tree really hard, the fall in the water then 5 mins later everybody is safe and sound,...
Also not a big fan of the end. They let them enter just by looking at their eyes. The last guy to enter the house and the last group they encounter hadn’t special eyes. It’s like they had the special eyes only when looking at the thing. Kind of foolish to let them in that easily.
Then, she finds the doctor. Really? Adding happiness on top of the happy ending.
The movie was a bit long but I was still entertained during the whole thing even with the similarities with the two mentioned movies that a love. Hence the good rating despite the small flaws.
When a women is pregnant in a movie and the name of one of the character is repeated over and over again and you have this strong feeling the guy is going to die and the baby’s going to be named after him.
Or when the obviously good cop tells the not so obviously good cop that there are bad cops in the unit and you have this strong feeling the supposedly bad cop is going to kill the good cop.
Action was entertaining but nothing extraordinary and a lot of obvious twists made it boring sometimes.
I just want to watch the one-take fight scene in the hallway again! No Sleep Till Brooklyn the rewatch!!!
Didn’t expect to enjoy it that much. It was a lot of fun to watch. A lot of jokes landed really well, some didn’t but it’s okay.
I’m still thinking about the chase with the big dragon bit and it makes me smile the day after :blush:
Lot of fun with the kids. Watched in French (for the kids). I thought the fact that all songs were in the original language (English) would disappoint them but it didn’t. They had a blast.
Ended movie night with some of the original songs like Somebody to Love by Queen.
Now looking for the movie soundtrack :notes::eyes:
