Orange Is The New Black is really a good show, and much different compared to other shows which are currently high rated.
The writers don't need that long to build up the characters. This is what I don't like at the beginning of many shows, because most of the time this is the boring part - until the whole story starts to develop. In Orange Is The New Black you got kicked in right from the start.
The actors are really good . All of them. And well written; and I got to admit that my favorite character is "Red". Not just because Kate Mulgrew played Captain Kathrin Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager, but because the character is build up so strong, and she's got so many facets.
You also get to know her in more backflashes (that explains how the people got into the prison). Some TV shows are using backflashes as well to explain some things, and usually I find that annoying, because it is a hard cut in the current plot; but the director in Orange Is The New Black is doing that so well, that it doesn't me bother at all - just the opposite: I want to know why the women got in there.
After watching the first three episodes I wrote that the show shouldn't be drama. It should be a comedy show. That is not true, after I watched the other episodes. Yes, there are funny scenes in it, but it defiantly got the strong drama parts as well.
I highly recommend to give this show a try, because you might wanna love it!
Kevin Spacey is so great in this show, and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) too. They play their roles so realistic, I believe them every word!
Barack Obama wrote a book as he's got into "higher" politics. I see some parallels from the book and this tv show. Everything is very realistic. The show reminds me a little bit of "Damages" with Glenn Close, where intrigue play a big role too, but in House of Cards it is much more sophisticated. You can't really miss one episode, because you gonna miss so much. And I also do not want to miss an episode , because you never get bored here. That is how a tv show concept should be!
The big thing about the show is also the first season's ending. I don't want to put a spoiler here, but I couldn't imagine that all those different story lines got put together to a big picture in the ending.
That was amazing. Really great written.
I give the first season 9 out of 10 points because it is so amazing well written, the acting is simply awesome and the only annoying thing which comes to my mind is the long intro.
So if you want to see a realistic politics & life tv show: Give it a try.
I am in the middle of the first season but I gonna say: this show is so good !
Since The Walking Dead is getting more and more boring, Homeland's season is over, and Breaking Bad's final season is starting in July I was looking for a TV Show which is exiting, got a central theme in it. Where you get surprised and the acting is good.
A TV show which is realistic and dangerous.
I found all of it with this show!
Since this TV Show is about the cold war I want to compare it with James Bond, and the second reason is I don't want to put spoilers in it:
I am pretty sure you know the older James Bond movies, where Bond is jumping of a cliff with no parachute, into a plane, gets control over the plane, destroying the enemy's base and got no scratches. Superhero Bond. No problems.
And then you know the newer Bond movies with Daniel Craig. Where Bond has problems. He's a drinker. Getting hurt, Getting scratches, simply more realistic.
If you know what I mean, then you know who the show is like.
Two KGB agents who are in the US for some years. Got two children. Have to live their whole life under disguise, which living a FBI Agent next door.
They like in some way there life as normal people and they do like in some way the people of America. But in their point of view the US government is evil. They what to build a anti-missile defense system (google Star Wars Bush), which would make the nuclear arsenal of Russia worthless. And they have to do something against that.
Lets see how the show develops. 9/10
Some say the show is a little bit like "Grey's Anatomy" in space, others its like "Lost" in space. Well I personally think it isn't anything of this.
If you watch this tv show you get a tv show which is very realistic. No real fancy technical stuff what we all might like about Star Trek, no fighting scenes like in Star Wars. I don't want to spoil anything, but the plot is simple: make a journey through our solar system which really takes a long time and a mystery factor which everything makes more interesting and a starship which isn't that big.
You also get some realationships between the actors.
But there is action in this TV Show. I never get bored watching this and I am a little bit sad that the show got canceled after the first season. There is no big ending, but at least the show got a good last episode with not that big cliffhanger (like in Alcatraz).
I suggest give it a try, watch the pilot and the 2nd episode. If you do not like it after that, don't watch the show. If you do, watch it. It is not a waste of time.
Good. 7/10
After watching 8 episodes from the first season I have to say, I like it so far.
I am a fan of Dorian, his character is well written and he is really fun to watch.
I hope that this TV show is getting a better development. So far, there is only some case solving, and go to the next case. The duration where the characters are properly introduced should be over, so there is far enough room for a bigger story.
So my hope is that the writers gonna do that. And they have to do that quick. Because even if I like the show, I am really no fan of that "closed" episodes and move on to the next action - based - 45 minutes - solving - case ...
If they don't, I think it will only be a show which I watch next to surfing on my iPad or doing something else - that would be a shame.
Currently I give Almost Human a "fair" rating. 6 out of 10 points with the hope that it will develop for e.g. like Fringe - where it was almost a case-to-case solving in the beginning, but getting into a great story after the first season.
If you gonna watch this show, you will gonna laugh. And cry.
A mother, a wife, simply a women who cares about her job as a teacher, and she cares about her family gets to know, that she's got cancer.
At the beginning of the first season, it reminded me a little (!) bit of Desperate Housewives. Not that bullshit thing with the gossip and all, but she's so self-sacrificing to her job and her family, and then she finds out that she's got cancer and have to change her live. She seems to be strong, taking adventures and giving a shit about her marriage and her kid, but that changes.
The Big C isn't only a show about a woman that knows she is gonna die. There isn't "death around every corner". It's fun to watch, because there are so many funny scenes in it. Some bullshit she (and the other characters) are doing. Even in bad or sad situations you gonna have to laugh because of some quotes like: "He isn't a asshole, he is the whole ass!"
And in some episodes you have to cry because it is simply REALLY very sad whats happening… and I am no guy who cries a lot. I only can remember to cry because of a show and that was "Lost". I talked to a friend about this show, and I told him that I had to cry and his answer was: "You wouldn't have a heart, if you haven't cried to that."
The actors are good. I have a deep respect for Laura Linney (as Cathy) for playing her role sooo good, her son Adam also was good, and most of the time I liked the music they have used, e.g. that song: http://youtu.be/CY-T0uZFv8k
But I think it's good that the show didn't got extended to a whole 4th season. It's just okay that way, and I am happy that there is a proper ending.
So if you want to watch a show, which isn't only about action or happypappyeverywhere… give "The Big C" a chance, and I really think you won't regret it.
I just watched the first episode and I have to say: not bad .
I am happy to see Gillian Anderson back on the TV screen again. She did a great job in the X Files in die late 80's early 90's and never have been a bad actress. Most of the other actresses and actors are unknown - at least to me.
The pilot was exciting to watch, no long and lame stretching scenes in it. I really hope that goes on that way, and will not miserably fail like in "Last Ressort" (the TV Show with the submarine...bla bla). And I can not help myself but the plot with children of powerful people taken, including the son of the President of the United States - just reminds me a little bin of "24". Maybe those "links" to that TV shows are not the best, but I can not help myself.
Said that, I like the technology-nerdy-part which seems pretty realistic. This new show has a great potential, and if it continues like the pilot, I am happy to watch it.
At the moment it is a "good" show, so 7 out of 10 hearts.
Hej guys,
I just finished watching the show, and my two cents: watch it. Here is why:
The main characters. Clarita, her husband and her daughter are living in a small town. Their neighbors are a bad ass cop, and a funny weed smoking good cop. The setting reminds me a little bit of Desperate Housewives.
They are a nice family but suddenly something changes. Clarita has no pulse, her body is cold. She cannot eat regular food. She is undead. The family to get through this together - in a funy way.
Can't say too much, because I do not want to spoiler anything. But its rly fun to watch, for example when she is eating a foot like a snack, or drinking a Smoothy.. but instead of fruits... its human flesh. I like the way they try to treat it as normal.
All characters are played well. I just don't really like her husband. I won't say its bad acting (well it is not the best), but something is wrong with this guy. It does not feel right. Even the boy next door feels more authentic than her husband. Thats rly the only downside of this TV show I can't find.
I wouldn't call it a Zombie TV Show, because there are so many Zombie movies and TV shows out, and it is very different to what I have seen so far of this "genre" ... if u want to call it like that.
If you are looking for a fun comedy show, which is also a little bit weird and crazy:
Go for it. Have fun!
7/10
I had no idea how funny this show is. ^^
It was running in our public TV for some time, and one day I watched one of the episodes and there were so many laughs in it - and also some sexyness ;)
Even I never was a big fan of Scrubs and especially of the caretaker which is played by Neil Flynn, I have to admit I even like this character in The Middle. All of the characters are so different and good written. Not the very best, but good!
Sue would drive me crazy, and I think everyone knows a character like her. Axel the is the already mentioned sexyness factor, but not only that - he's also very funny and has some amazing jokes. Mike, the father who usually doesn't smile that much and Frances - a mum how a mother should be ... kind a ;) Not to forget Brick - which is the youngest but he is the one who makes me laugh the most whisper: the most ^^
I recommend to give this show a try, because you will get many laughs, and it is very easy to watch. No bigger story around - just for relaxing when you got home from university.
Go, Hecks, go! :)
I really was looking forward to watch this show, but after watching the first two episodes I have to say that in my opinion the most important part of this show is that all the actors and actresses look very handsome and beautiful.
It feels like a little bit of Dawson’s Creek with Aliens :-)
Well that comparison is not the best of course, but that was the feeling I got after watching 15 minutes of the first episode. A better comparison would be Roswell - but Roswell was far much better. The whole feeling of that show was better:
I don’t think I spoiler to much here but the plot is pretty weak, not to say bad:
After ten years on earth alien teenagers have to go to high school. They call it an integration program, I call it a weak plot. Because there it is easy to make a TV Show based on love-drama, high school nerds with high school bullies and high school problems. And Aliens. Haha!
Seriously!? Think about it :D
I cannot understand why this show got a rating of 83% at the moment!
That is just crazy.
It is poor, very poor. 4 out of 10 trakt
As I watched the trailer to this new show I was very happy that there is a new Science Fiction show out now.
The trailer was good so I watched the pilot yesterday.
Well I gonna admit, I was a little bit disappointed. The only character I really liked was the scientist with the blonde hair which character also had a LITTLE bit sense of humor in it. Of course it is no comedy show, but all the other characters fell so strange. The security guy, the military guy, the brother... nah...
Yay you can shitstorm me and say "Hej this was only the pilot" but when I compare it to a other Science Fiction Show like Fringe the pilot was far much better... Oliver, Peter, the background story of Walter ...
I really hope that those characters are getting a FAR better development.
Said that, maybe this show develops which I missed in The Walking Dead: At the first season they went to the CDC building ... and there was a small hope to counter the virus. Nothing happend and they just try to survive with no solution. Maybe in this show the plot is much more different - at least I hope so.
Lets see how the first season continues...
Puh.
Under The Dome.
The pilot / first episode was good. And I like the main plot about the "Dome". But it takes sooo long until the main plot moves on in the episodes. From episode three to seven all they get is some hysteric fits. And those hysteric fits are only getting four people. That is not the way the mystery part should move on THAT SLOW.
For sure I am aware of that the story is also about the people, who are Under The Dome, their secrets and behavior. And as they are all having secrets (it seems like it), you can put endlessly plots in that TV - show.
Is that really necessary or is it just bad written?
It would have soooo much more potential.
And what about this "Junior" character. Haha. He locks Angie away for some DAYS and gets away with it? No real problems? ... Well I guess it is bad written.
The only reason why I watch this show is to get to know, whats up the that dome. And that shouldn't be the reason when watching that show. Because the other plots are really bad - at least most of them.
This show was running on TV in my country. And when I turned to the TV channel at night where the show was running I turned it off - I got to say, that I never watched this. Why? I found the plot sooo stupid. Just another show with an agent, and the agent is solving different problems and cases in each episode.
Well. In some way this might be true, but there is more behind that. A bigger story.
Now I am in the second season and I gonna say, that the story develops good. Sometimes I get really surprised about the change of courses of the characters behaviour.
If you like action, technical agent gimmicks and action scenes you might consider watching this show. J.J. Abrams was the producer of this show, so you also get a mystery factor in it - but I do not want to spoiler that.
The characters are developing great during the show - but I gotta say that there are some "over-subscribed" chars... The technic-guy for example. When you see him, you know what I mean.
What I also don't like is, that in each episode there are 1 - 2 action scenes, and then the part where there is the emotional/private stuff for the characters. Thats getting boring, because you already know: "Oh action scenes are over - okay now she's talking to her dad, tears ladidaldida". ^^
If you are into spy stuff, you might try The Americans which I like far more.
I think Alias is good. 7/10.
