I'm enjoying it so far (3 episodes in), but I want to rate it higher just because it's upsetting so many people that don't like shows about empowered women

@adashovelace That is, unfortunately, the norm, but especially so on Trakt. It's heavily male dominated with a certain 'nerdy' flavour. Certain stereotypically male TV shows will show support that seems unprobably high, and vice versa.
Something common here is that people watch one episode, decide they hate it, and rate the entire show down (rather than the episode) as a result. There will have been people who immediately jumped to giving this a 1/10 because they don't understand how a useful system works. I think that is mostly gender-neutral and happens on any show, just compare the rating of a new series with the ratings on the first few episodes. It's typical to see a 60/80 split, for example.
However, whenever there is is a woman featured as the prominent character on the poster, the series rating goes down. If they aren't conventionally attractive, the rating goes down. If the description features anything you could construe as strong-female-lead, the rating goes down. Most of all, if someone watches half the first episode and discover there's a joke directed at a man, an LGBT+ person exists, male actors predominately play side characters, etc, etc, etc then it suddenly because "woke shit" and that moron will rate it a 1/10, artificially deflating the rating due to incomprehensible bigotry.
This site has a lot of it. I have come across literal Nazis in the comments of pro-Nazi propaganda movies from the 30s, and the admins on the site don't do anything when it's reported, so having some way to counteract bigotry when it comes to a handful of shows that involve women or minorities is not something I see them attempting to address.
For me personally, I find it annoying that I can't get an idea of a show at first glance. The ratings don't mean much, good shows get buried, and the comments can be a cesspit. This show could genuinely be awful, but if embarrassing men are commenting about how triggered by wokeness they are, then how am I meant to tell?
Ms. Marvel episode 1 impressions: First of all, why is Disney shooting these Marvel shows with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio? Shows meant to be shown exclusively on 16:9 displays. It's rather annoying. Especially after they made their huge marketing push of having 16:9 open matted versions of the Marvel movies on Disney+ with the "IMAX Enhanced" label. Seems really backwards to have the Marvel movies in 16:9 and the shows at a wider aspect ratio.
Second biggest problem: WTF did they do to her powers? This isn't faithful to the comics at all. Why is her ability this weird energy crystal power instead of polymorphing? And instead of getting her powers from having Inhuman genes, they made her get her powers from magic bracelets? It's like if they made Spider-Man shoot lasers instead of webs. She might as well be a totally different character.
In fact, making the source of her powers come from magic instead of from a genetic modification is a hilarious blunder as magic is considered haram in Islam. They might as well have made her a super fundamentalist Christian superhero who gets her powers from witchcraft.
I could excuse the strange casting choices that made Kamala and Bruno look too young compared to their comic counterparts if it weren't for the fact they ruined her powers. The constant shapeshifting body horror of the comics was central to Kamala's character.
For me this is another hatewatch just like the Halo series. Like Halo, while it has some things that appeal to fans of the original lore, it has many other aspects that drag it down and make it difficult to fully enjoy the show.
MODERATOR EDIT: Be more respectful.

@victoriaz As a 20 year old, a lot of aspects of this episodes made me say "yeah that happened to me at one point in time" whether it is about the parents, school life or being bullied or being asked to know what you want for the rest of your life from an early age. It's a lot for a teen. Iman is very likable, it's her first acting joint and she does a very good job. I don't feel the cringy riverdale teenage perspective that writers sometimes use in shows. The first episode is relatable, fun and intriguing. I've loved marvel since I was a kid and I agree some MCU stuff is really bad, it would be a lie to say this episode was really bad. As for the powers, we'll have mr. fantastic later on and they butchered the inhumans so I don't really have a problem with the change as long as they make it good. And they did. Glad to see your problem with the show isn't race related or diversity issue:))) Who cares what they change as long as it's a good change.
Should have been labeled 'loosely based on the books by Isaac Asimov'.... Absolutely butchered the books... Disgrace... Woke nonsense
On a positive note, it is beautifully made and the actors do an excellent job.

@nescobar-a-lop-lop well, maybe it's boring to you. It's a fucking long saga and it's gonna be several seasons, telling a story over the span of 1.000 years so of course the first eps are gonna be full of world building to give context. Not everything has to be fast paced and full of action scenes like a blockbuster.
I just don't understand people who leave comments about how they dislike something. If I don't like something or find it boring, I just ignore the thing, it's that easy. If I don't care about something I don't go out of my way to let everyone know how I don't like it. I just move on to the next thing I could like and let people enjoy what they like. Maybe it's not for me, maybe it's for them, and that's ok, I don't try to ruin it for them.

@eon4dk Oh wow, two female characters in a otherwise set up full of men, such a woke nonsense!!!
If changing the gender of TWO characters without changing the general plot upsets you so much, then you are for a shock when you discover that half of the population is female. Asimov himself admited almost all his characters were men bc he lacked experience with women, so idk why are you so upset about.
And you admited that skincolor was never mentioned in the books, so I don't think it's hard to understand there's more skincolor than white.
But yeah, go say it's a disgrace and a woke nonsense if that makes your fragile sensibilities feel better.
Why do black comedians always have to talk about what it feels like "being back in a white mans world"? Let the comedy speak for itself, I hate when comedians have to make things about race to get a few laughs.. Never see this from white comedians.
Other than that, not a bad show. Watch it all the time. BUT!! I just hate when shows like these are like.. "We back", "as a African American", "Having a white friend", "White people always like".. ect ect ect IN EVERY EPISODE!!!!
WE GET IT, YOU'RE BLACK!!! NOBODY CARES!!!! LET IT DIE!!!

@WitWolfy you never see it from white comedians because they live in a white mans world. As the other comment mentioned, white comedians would do the same if it was a black mans world.

@witwolfy If a white person was in a black man's world, i think we would hear it a lot from white comedians.
