Twilight becomes both much more funny and much more bearable when you are familiar with the genre and take it as the film equivalent of a shōjo manga or otome game, including all the same tropes. Under these criteria, it's actually a pretty fun movie.
Hot Take: If you can tolerate James Bond movies but this one somehow makes you feel weird, perhaps it's because you're more used to or more comfortable with male fantasies of sexual desirability. Either way, I used to hate Twilight because I felt superior to all the stupid girls who liked it. Now I just accept it for what it is: wish-fulfilment. Sure, Edward would be a creepy stalker and borderline abusive if not for story mechanics that tell us he can be trusted because he's a good guy, but that's the beauty of fiction: in real life there's no such thing as "good guys" and "bad guys," but in stories, there is. Similarly, James Bond would be a serial sexual harasser if not for the fact that all the women he encounters are super into him, but again, that's the beauty of fiction: they always are, and we know it's okay for him to be a dick sometimes because he is, you guessed it, a good guy. And yes, there's some weird puritan ideology here about the dangers of male sexuality, but that's still a hundred times better than for instance the subtext of Bram Stoker's Dracula (which, funnily enough, is about the dangers of female sexuality).
So, once more for the people in the back: Twilight is silly, implausible, and often ridiculous. And that's absolutely okay.
That being said, things I like about this film: the great way in which it captures teenage awkwardness (which I find hilarious and at this point have to believe is intentional); the fact that Bella just accepts he's a vampire because it's the most logical conclusion, and there's no drawn out "I can't believe this guy stopped a car with his bare hands, I'm going to tell everyone about it - oh no, no one believes me!"; the quotability of so much of the dialogue (coming close to the SW prequel trilogy in that department); the absolute dead-pan way in which everyone delivers their lines ("It's like diamonds. You're beautiful." - "Beautiful. This is the skin of a killer, Bella."); The way literally no one looks like they want to be there; the fact that Bella does not seem to be able to fully close her mouth; the implication that vegetarians are "never fully satisfied"; Seemingly endless scenes of piggyback rides (now I finally know why they never actually show how The Flash carries people - it just looks so fucking weird); the shot of Bella's father rolling his friend in the wheelchair right in front of the stairs leading up to his house, followed by a cut so that it's never explained how he actually got inside; the fact that Bella just seems absolutely chill with everything ("I don't sleep." - "Never?" - "No, never." - "Okay.").
Things I don't like about this film: how everyone takes it so goddamned seriously. Oh, and that there is absolutely no instance of "What are you?" - "A waitress."
honestly expected this to be terrible, and I was happily surprised. Bella Thorne did a great job in the role (I'm so tired of her bad girl roles), love Rob Riggle in this. There's a bunch of terribly cheesy scenes, but also a bunch of nice heartwarming moments :)
... ok so I wrote all of that before watching the last 15 minutes omg suuuuper sappy teen romance stuff, poor dad and Morgan, but in the end really sweet
Wow, I hated this far less than I thought I would. The romantic 12-year-old I once was would've adored this film (after a slight tweak to the genders).
i'm so sad for the final
I like a good drama movie now and than, sadly this wasn't the movie for me. Boring and filled with clichés.
Interesting premise, but not much else here.
This movie is propped up by the inherent emotions of the story, but falls flat in pretty much every way. The acting isn't great, the actual story is full of cliches, and the depth feels very forced.
Definitely recommend skipping this one.
Now I'm sad why did i had to go and watch the movie
that ending always gets me :(((((((
Well I was looking for a ghost movie that my wife would like, and boy did I find it. This is a ghost movie for chicks. Lol!
Really beautiful bond between the two leads. The ending was a little bland, no necessity for the "I don't remember you" thing , but still great story.
The good news - you get to see two fantastic actors in a movie where the script probably isn't up to part with their talents. They are sweet and funny and have great chemistry. The middle third of the movie is actually very good, although based on the nature of the storyline you kind of know that the end is going to have to be at least a little bit hokey. That said, I didn't expect the last 5 minutes - I thought that was an excellent addendum to the movie.

It's a little heavy-footed and almost tries too hard, yet I quite enjoyed 'Just Like Heaven'.
Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are a strong pairing, with Jon Heder spearheading a good support cast ably. It's a well paced film at around 90 minutes, there are some decently amusing scenes in there alongside some more sombre ones - the majority of which come off rather well. Some parts are cliché, but not to the degree that it affected my enjoyment.
One that is well worth a watch, in my opinion of course.
This movie is probably a notch below movies like "The Hangover," "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Wedding Crashers," but it definitely holds it own and you will most definitely find yourself laughing hard more than once.
7.3/10 good script and good acting..Cuthbert was just perfect!
Basing it on the 2015 context, I’d say The Girl Next Door was a bad movie. There was a lot of inaccuracy, sexism, and objectification. The storyline was weird, the script was weird...the movie’s REALLY weird. For one, why did Matthew receive a standing ovation after including in his speech that he prioritizes his girlfriend over his future? If Georgetown was as good a university as they made it seem, they’d be critical. And for Danielle to have sex with Matthew at the back of a car for their FIRST TIME? Wouldn’t that have reminded her of pornography scenes? Gah, it’s so wrong on so many levels.
HOWEVER, this was a movie from yeeeaaars ago, and I’m sure people didn’t see much wrong with it then. The movie IS charming, as the actors compensate for most of what it lacks. I don’t regret seeing it; and if the movie’s description interests you, you should watch it!
First saw this movie when I was 17 and to this day stays one of my favourite romantic comedies
This movie was amazingly perfect from the beginning to the end. It is my favorite romantic comedy of all time and probably my favorite movie of all time.
Aw man, it's a great film <3 I think the casting was quite good but they did miss a few things out from the book, but it seems pretty good and you should read the book too! I find Patrick is brilliantly done, Sam not so much but I think with Emma Watson if she continues this feel about her playing the "knowledgeable character" in films it'll fit really well. And Charlie is really cute, and I feel kinda connected with him and it's really sad. Oh man, it's like one of the only films that I cry in the cinema ;__;
"We accept the love we think we deserve."
Beautiful coming of age movie. Terrific performances, heartfelt story and a wonderful soundtrack. Still got to me on a second watch.
This was beautiful and worth the watch. It was sad, scary and filled with love. This film had a true and real heart.
In first place the movie is well-adapted from the book, maybe in the book you are more aware of the time because of the letter dates, but okay, I enjoyed so far the original story and watching the movie made me feel like when I was reading it adding of course good actors that have made a well played movie. The movie shows so many facts about youth that is hard not to feel identified with some of them. The director is actually the writer of the book, so good point at it. I have to say that I loved this movie so much that I recommend you to watch it.
We are infinite
I just wanna EAT Logan Lerman in this movies. He's STUNNING playing Charlie, STUNNING! I would never guess he was THAT GOOD of an actor. I'm amazed by everything, but mostly by him. I hope he gets nominated for an Oscar, he deserve it.
10/10 I cried manly tears
Despite being a really well-acted and a moving story, it was actually kinda hard to watch; I had to take breaks every so often while watching it, in part because of the cringe-inducing awkwardness of it all, in a good way. It's really well-made though and I'm impressed that it was actually directed by the author of the novel, everything goes together nicely. Great coming-of-age story, I'd thoroughly recommend it.
we need this genre of cheesy, over-the-top romcoms back asap

I just really loved these awkward, crazy cuties together
Such light-hearted comedy fun! Amanda Bynes always made the corniest, yet funniest films!
