Quite possibly one of the most important sci fi sitcoms to date. Really paved the way for stuff like Rick and Morty.
The story is captivating and doesn't shy away from violence and more adult themes.
The animation is gorgeous.
The character development is on point. The characters are deep, relatable and they each have their struggles and growth.
Don't worry if you know nothing about League of Legends. Solid character development and world-building make Arcane an enjoyable watch regardless of having no background knowledge of the universe.
This show is a masterpiece.
Incredible. I went into this blind and was blown away
So far I think the show is very good. I feel like I am watching an updated version of Skins (UK) for 2019. Is that a bad thing? No. I think this show has its own stories to tell, but with similar themes. Labrinth's musical direction and original works are superb. I am going to continue watching.
A dark and interesting speculation on a wold long past the singularity, where human consciousness can be downloaded and plugged into different bodies (or sleeves). What becomes of humanity in a world with such power and an ever widening gulf between wealth and poverty?
Sometimes I wish I could be this dumb.
the show should've ended with all of them dying due to the asbestos exposure
Intelligent, twisting, gripping, well written and well acted. Definitely worth a watch. Netflix gives you options - mine was the original German with English subtitles. That’s my recommendation.
Just watched the pilot and I gotta be honest, this is the best pilot of any serie I have ever watched. Can't wait for future episodes.
A beautiful, twisted and bleak story filled with awesome moments, music and cinematography. It shows an alternative love story completely different from all those cliché-dramatic moments overused in Hollywood. Just 3h20min of fun, love and crude humor of two characters that love each other but not the world around them. The ending is beautifully shot, showing the danger and automatic assumption that James is a psychopath. His narration, followed by him running for his short life while being on his birthday is so heartbreaking that made me cry in the last second. A boy that had no feelings, made a choice of love.
Absolutely fantastic. I will admit that I hesitated at first, but then I thought why not give it a try. Gloomy and eerie, but good at it. The music throughout the series is really well chosen; it fits perfectly well. The writing is also top notch, as is the acting. You can either have it in English sound or in German sound with English subtitles. Honestly I wasn't bothered at all with the English sound, so if that's your thing you will be able to enjoy the series just fine (maybe you'll also be slightly less distracted as opposed to reading subtitles). Personally I chose the German sound, as it felt more natural.
Honestly, give it a try. Might very well be the best series I've watched this year.
EDIT: Binged season 2 in a sitting. Just wow. This review doesn't do it justice. And the casting...I mean, I totally thought old Ulrich was the result of CGI or something. Season 2 is best thing I've watched this year and last year included (ever?).
Loving this 70s period-scifi piece so far. Nice space missions, human drama, very 70s. Everyone smokes all the time, everyone drinks all the time. My kind of fun.
I've played LoL on a handful of occasions throughout the years but never enough to be familiar with the world/lore. So I went into this show pretty much blind and with little expectations because of previous games to TV adaptions.
But boy were my expectations completely blown out of the water. Everything in the first three episodes was damn near perfect. Animation. Score/soundtrack. Voice acting. World building. Captivating Story. Interesting Characters. Fucking insane. I cannot wait for the next episodes.
Pretty much a perfect miniseries. Intriguing characters and overall story with amazing actors, great cinematography and an absolutely fantastic soundtrack.
After Season 2:
I was really worried that this season might be shit but it actually turned out great. It's IMO as good if not better than S1 (although quite a bit less funnier and even more depressing at times) and it provides a lot happier ending for the characters which is nice. It also deals with the psychological aftermath of S1 really well.
But the best thing in the show still was the soundtrack. It somehow got even better than S1.
i dont know about u guys but asa butterfield AND gillian anderson? ive never been so on-board before
UPDATE: just finished it and MAN you all need to watch this. its a mastery of crushing cliches and good writing!
This is definitely getting a second season and I'm all up for it. The cinematography is gorgeous and the soundtrack fits perfectly with its themes. It addresses important topics that should be discussed amongst teenagers in such a natural, easy way.
The whole cast does a great job. I'll never get tired of saying that Asa Butterfield is a fantastic actor and deserves to get more recognition urgently.
I started watching this with absolutely no expectations, and was pleasantly surprised.
It's a great alternate history twist on the moon landing, and while I initially thought the novelty of core concept would wear off rather quickly, they've actually done a really good job at crafting a broad and nuanced "what if" scenario. It's a nice example of how one small difference can yield all sorts of unexpected results, and by the time I was around say... three episodes in, all the other series on the "currently watching" list had been sidelined by a need to find out what would happen next.
I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you find the subject at all interesting.
Started watching this on Saturday with my wife. went in with no expecations and it blew us away!!
A must see!! Dont see a lot of shows so well written these days.
This was hands down one of the best animated (any show really) shows I've seen in 40 years. I hate LOL as well but am a huge gamer and played it a bit 10 years ago. My girl doesn't know anything about the art and LOVED it as well. So good and so impressed.
Music, characters, hand painted on top of 3d models, story, voice acting. Just soooo good.
Don't get everyone's issue, people seem to think this is season 2 of Squid Game or something aha, it's a reality show, of course it's not gonna have an in depth plot and 'characters', I think people genuinely believe this is meant to be the second season. I actually had fun with this, went in with the lowest expectations are don't care for reality shows and actually managed to have some fun with it!
I really wish the season was longer. Really loved how it showed how teens use technology nowadays. Overall pretty great show.
Netflix is really killing it with these international shows. They are 2 for 2 for german shows IMO which is saying a lot seeing how 95% of german TV is absolute shite.
The Americanized version doesn't compare to the original. Subtitles are totally worth the effort -- well suited for viewing on a mobile device, something about a smaller screen makes the subtitle reading less of a distraction. Excellent!
update after Season2:
They addressed that Mistress May is not an experienced dominatrix and that she didn't have Pete's consent in season 1. In my opinion this had to be addressed and I hope they keep showing what she did wrong, her way of learning to get better at her job and to develop healthy relationships without her domme side getting in the way.
I like the direction season 2 took and hope they will dive deeper into these characters and why they act like they do. Better than season 1 for me. To be fair, I mostly got stuck with this show because I love Pete/Carter, his Roommate Frank and the German man-servant Rolph, but I start to like Tiff as well.
Boring and lifeless. Is that stupid fake accent supposed to be German? Have they heard a German person speaking English???
Shonda Rhimes... producing garbage and brainwashing gullible white people sice, Grey's Anatomy.
A very solid start for this thriller. A good cast and what appears to be an interesting story.
So far the plot is still up for grabs, but the first two episodes made wanting for more and having a lot of questions, which for me is what I like on a good thriller. Needless to say having Idris Elba is a +.
If you like thrillers, give this a go and ignore the low rate it was because had more than 18 votes of 1* months before airing.
It's a new show so I'm not understanding everyone's comments on a show that hasn't even started yet
Best theme song of 2016.
They should have dropped all the unnecessary subplots and drama and made it into a two hour movie
I knew very little about League of Legends beyond some character names, but this show absolutely blew me out of the water. It's clear they spared no expense in the animation and writing of this show, every episode kept me captivated and wanting to watch the next one. The TV-14 rating is a bit of a misdirect, the show tends to be pretty adult-oriented and can catch you off guard with some story elements.
I hope they continue adapting the universe they've created into stuff like this, they've clearly put a lot of care and effort into their characters and world-building.
I was expecting this to be pretty bold-faced Israeli propaganda and I'm happy to report after having seen the entire season that it is not that. This show follows Israeli spies as the protagonists, but Israel is presented as flawed and occasionally brutal (if ultimately justified), meanwhile the Iranians in the show get to be fully fleshed relatable humans rather than evil monsters. It's a pretty fair portrayal where everyone gets to be human. The real villain is the hyper-conservative religious leadership.
As a show, it's middling. The initial set-up is good, then it feels like they were told they had to stretch the show over more episodes than originally planned, and it quickly became aimless from the middle on. It gets bogged down in a love story and a side plot about young Iranian rebels. The season ends on a very bland note, way too many (ironically predictable) double-crosses and last minute twists, and does not leave me very exciting for a potential season 2.
