I can’t say I laughed but the movie did keep my attention throughout. Such a strange but enjoyable movie.
The movie would be called sexist if it was released now. Since all the women in it are needy, weak and a bit weird.
What a long and awkward night!
This is what? The most cursed guy in the world? The story is funny and very absurd
A great theatrical, emotional roller coaster, entertaining, edge of seat kind of film that you love to see about a music icon. This is not your average non fiction story line type film about a celebrity, but a plot twisting story line jumping, action packed roller coaster type movie taking the audience on a hell of a ride about Elvis. The good, bad and ugly. Whether it was too much about his manager taking advantage of him or too much about the attraction fans felt for him or the impact he had in the civil rights movement, it was all very well done as it showed how much of a positive and historical impact he made on the music industry.
Absolutely superb. The hours Austin Butler must have spent studying Elvis to get every mannerism and nuance spot on does not bear thinking about.
Oscar winning performance for me
Actual Rating 8.5*
This was a really good depiction of the life of Elvis Presley. I'm going to be honest and say it took a little while to get into but it had a great pay off in the end.
Elvis was caught in a trap of becoming Immortal again by the hands of BL. A visual folclore, with music intensity, amazing acting supported by a dramatic and intense story that makes you love and cry for the king more and more again.
I don't even know, TBH
I adore the book and Lucy Hale so it was kind of daunting to go into this. I was scared I wasn't going to like it. Lucy was amazing but the Austin dudes acting was so flat? He does have chemistry with Lucy but apart from that he wasn't good for the role at all.
I played the hating game all the way through this vapid movie.
The movie is not completely loyal to the book so that’s my main problem with the movie I think they cut or change key points of the book I disagree with the people saying Austin it’s not a well cast if you reas the book you feel and know he’s the best fit but I think the main problem it’s the script and the things they decided to change and it makes me feel like it lose the magic of the book but overall it’s a good movie to enjoy the time
Liking a movie and hating a movie feels exactly the same...
Like a man at a feminist parade, it tries hard but is more self-serving than it realizes.
Historically, movies were often centered around white males who were banal and self obsessed. Well, in these modern times, women now have their turn in this spotlight.
Julie is a 29 - 30 year old woman in Norway who can't make decisions and to whom nothing exciting ever happens, except resembling a lot of other heroines in a lot of other movies. Or maybe I'm just too old and have experienced all of these things in my life, repeatedly, and so don't need to see them reiterated back to me by a narcissistic stranger.
More of a superhero film rather than horror. Watched the original just before watching this and none of the two impressed me but the original is better. The John Carpenter score is too good for this. Weird to see Zac Efron as a dad but he did great. Michael Greyeyes is such a badass!
carpenter score is good, zac efron's always a good actor so i liked him, but in general just. so boring.
a cat dies and it's pretty graphic, someone else here gave a time stamp and that sounds about right. idk charlie just felt a little too old for her behavior to be rationalized away, even if she never learned how to deal with her powers.
The Witch: A New-England Folktale is a creepy and atmospheric low-budget horror film. Set in the early 1600s, the story follows a family that leaves their village to build a new home in the frontier; but when the youngest child is kidnapped by a witch and the crops fail the family begins to tear itself apart. The performances are quite good, especially Anya Taylor-Joy; who’s extraordinarily compelling and has a remarkable earnestness to her. And the lengths to which writer/director Robert Eggers has gone to bring authentic to the film’s look and feel is incredible. However, the pacing is kind of slow and the ending is rather controversial. Yet while it has a few issues, The Witch: A New-England Folktale is a chilling and well-crafted film.
The mood that is set by the opening scene is incredible. It's shot in the pouring rain with a few of the main characters taking shelter in the rubble of the Rashomon city gate. The characters retell the story of a murder that they all witnessed to some extent and they each have a different version of what happened. This plot is interesting but now, seventy years later, just isn't as impactful as it likely was back then. However, it's still intriguing and keeps you guessing.
The most interesting thing about the film for me was the mood and how artistic all of the directorial choices were. It's black and white, but there's so much depth and contrast. It looks amazing.
I hated the ending. I expected them to be together…still a beautiful movie
Truly a great film. The acting was great, as was the soundtrack, and the writing was excellent. Watching the film you get heavily invested in the main characters, twists and turns in the story make you feel shocked saddened or happy.
I would definitely reccomend watching this film for anyone who hasn't yet watched it.
I put off watching this for such a long time. I wasn't impressed with Inglorious Bastards. And I thought this might be the same. But I have a feeling this one is gonna stick with me for a while.
This film is a total blast from start to finish and easily one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen. There is literally never a dull moment during the near 3 hour running length and the film has just about everything; it's funny, it's exciting, it's tense, it's unpredictable and of course, it's relentlessly violent.
'Django Unchained' is probably my favourite Tarantino film. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a film as much as this one, so much so that I would consider it one of my all time favourites. For sheer entertainment value, there aren't many that come close to this film.
Time flies when you're having fun and that is certainly true when it comes to 'Django Unchained'. So much so that I didn't really want it to end. An instant classic and another highly entertaining film from Tarantino.
A minimalist story in which the future that the journalist asks the children he interviews about is also the representation of a complex present in an unstable North America. With obvious references to "Alice in the city" (1974), this generational meeting is transformed into a somewhat pessimistic vision of a youth that has an uncertain future before it, but looks at it with the optimism that maturity has lost. .
An art house remake of Big Daddy.
Everything about this movie excelled, from the acting to the cinematography to the directing, but the banality of the story kept me from appreciating any of those things enough.
Johnny: “Your kid says he likes NYC better LA.”
Viv: “Little traitor.”
‘C’mon C'mon’ is a smartly written movie by Mike Mills that’s funny, yet dramatic and grounded, and shot beautifully in rich black and white.
The movie is held together with two fantastic performances from Joaquin Phoenix and newcomer Woody Norman, who were so pure and sweet together. I can guess most of their scenes were playfully improvised. The supporting actors Gaby Hoffmann and Scoot McNairy also deliver great performances.
Throughout the movie, Phoenix plays a radio journalist named Johnny, who interviews kids with a series of questions, with one question that keeps being asked is what their think the future is going to be like with their answers being beautifully insightful. Some of it stayed with me long after the movie ended.
I’m surprised not a lot of people are talking about this, in terms of award show talk or just in general.
Good movie but a little hyped I think. Reading subtitles really takes away from the immersiveness but apart from that there wasn’t much character development, so I never got emotionally attached to anything except of course a few brutal scenes. Totally get the dire situation these kids are in. :( It’s hard not to compare parts of this to the wire, and I found that to be a more enjoyable.
Not a great movie but two great voices
Amateurish. Entirely derivative of Fosse with heavy influence of MTV, yet lacking in energy. Despite poor dialogue, lame narrative, and weak dramatic performances all around, it was still somehow enjoyable.
Lights, camera, cabaret time!
Okay, so it’s got some incredible vocal performers and a versatile cast...but don’t expect too much storytelling when the curtain is raised. It does however make up for its lack of depth with a sprinkling of innuendo and the odd giggle moment. You’ll leave this club feeling satisfied.
It was a fun watch, and great singing and performance. But I somehow expected more.
