Fun movie! Can't really say anything too meaningful about the movie... it's just a fun watch.
I always kind of cringe at people saying 'the book was better' but honestly... the book was better. Way better.
The movie has a stellar cast. The girls really look as I pictured them but the way the story is told in the movie skips over a lot of crucial moments. The best example is Mary surviving her attempt (just like Cecilia) only to die later like her sisters.
What the movie does capture very well is the vibe of the book. The way its shot, the music, it's a visually beautiful movie.
I'm a sucker for a movie with a narrator. It always adds a little extra for me.
I felt sucked into this movie instantly. The story is different than what I expected. There is a sense of whimsy, almost magical to this otherwise unsettling story. It's strange and especially as you near the ending... ESPECIALLY that one scene... if you know you know. the orgy...
Can't say the 'magical' aspect of the story made it better though. I feel like the story of a scent hunting obsessed man was enough.
After seeing the trailer I had quite high hopes... sadly this movie was just not it. It's cute but that's just about it.
I can't be sure if the end saved or ruined this movie. It was a pretty okay movie but certainly don't go in expecting much.
I can't believe I only just now watched this movie. It's definitely not the best thing I've seen and I can easily see that if this movie was made right now they would have probably upped the horror and made it bloody. It was a tame movie in terms of that.
The 90s vibe is what draws me in. Nostalgia. The clothes, the actors, the aesthetic... it's great.
The story is okay. I expected more action.
Good watch.
Wholesome movie. Fun, lovable.. just a good watch!
Absolute garbage. The acting is horrible. Writing equally as bad and the plot is thin at best.
There was potential but it was completely wasted.
A spin off done right. First season was great. Milder than The Boys in my opinion... or maybe we just got so used to the gore.
A nice set up for the second season and potential to merge the shows when needed.
Based on the plot alone this movie isn't the best. It's a pretty basic, thin plot but it makes up for that plenty with a great cast and beautiful shots. Cinematically this movie is definitely one of the better ones and the over all vibe they manage to set keeps you watching, waiting for something to happen.
A slow burn but worth the wait.
A lot of mixed reviews about this final season. Some really dislike it but I personally really enjoyed this season. The way they wrapped it up feels very realistic. We have to remember that these are mostly teenagers around the age of 17-18 and for example Maeve going to America, not ending up with Otis, it's very realistic and much better than her sacrificing her future for a boy.
Adam and Michael Groff now hold a very special place in my heart. The way this story came sort of full circle was by far the best thing about this whole season for me.
Aimee, Adam and Eric carried this season for me.
Some parts did feel a bit rushed because they chose to focus on a lot of new characters which is a pity. This way Jackson didn't get enough time for a story that could have been very emotional if it was written with more screentime in mind. Same counts for Viv and Cal. But all in all I really enjoyed this season. It tackled some major things but kept it's lighthearted side to it. Well done.
It had potential to be something better than it was.
As someone who truly enjoys alien movies this was high on my watchlist but it failed to meet my expectations. I've seen worse but there are way better movies in the genre.
The movie follows Brynn, clearly tormented by her past with severe anxiety and living a very secluded life who wakes up one night when Aliens break into her home. She goes on a rollercoaster of dealing with a traumatic event from her past to having to fight for her life against literal aliens. The plot however is thin. The aliens are all over the place, I even thought some where kind whereas others (the bigggg ones) weren't and no clear indication of what they're up to is given, which is fine if all they do is destroy stuff but these ones are smart and in a sense human like so I would have liked to know a bit more about them and their motives. They seem to clone people but why is unclear and they seem weak as Brynn manages to kill three of them (one giant!) seemingly easily. The ending is giving a sort of Truman Show but alien style.
I heard great things about this movie. Some said it really makes you think or it is a very realistic future but I found it hard to form a connection to Brynn and her world. The aliens however are visually amazing!
Don't expect anything life changing.
Great start of the season. I thought I would miss characters like Lily or even Ola but I don't. A new school, new vibe, new characters but especially those beloved characters are drawing me back in immediately! Eric stole the show once more.
I wondered how they would fill up another season when things were clearly coming to an end but this was an excellent set-up without it feeling like a filler episode. If anything it was a conclusion to the current story (with Adam, the cops and the mystery surrounding Travis' death) and it propelled things forward with Nat's death. A good choice when it comes to one of the main characters to die. Especially at the hands of Misty, who lacked serious empathy when it came to killing Jessica Roberts. I am going to miss Nat though. Both the young and older version of her are portrayed by great actresses and while we get to see young Nat a while longer Juliette Lewis will be missed!
Sadly we'll have to wait quite a while for a new season now :(
Awful.
Jess is an incredibly dumb and naive character. Continuously making bad choices and all for a boy she trusts after knowing him a day or two. The story itself had potential and I think if they had a better cast it wouldn't have been as bad as it was. Better writing for the story overall too because the end of this movie was bonkers. Very in line with the characters though; dumb.
Great first season. The pilot immediately sucked me in and every episode after gave away new directions, hints or new questions to where the story is going. Casting is fantastic! The older versions really resemble the teens, all very skilled actors. The finale does a great job at creating new story arcs for the second season, intensifying the mystery. I'm soooo glad Jackie is gone. She really annoyed me. Her death was cruel, actually really well written because they could have so easily made it gruesome and over the top but instead went with this quite death that in light of these characters and the things Shauna said to her made it brutal and tragic.
I can't tell you how many times I watched the animated version when I was a kid. There where times when I watched it every weekend so I had the highest of expectations for this live action remake and practically none of them where met.
Firstly: Halle Bailey was incredible. She had a beautiful voice and really brought Ariel to live. Ariel for me is this vibrant, innocent (almost naive), sweet character and Halle really nailed that. Sadly that is just about the only positive thing I have to say about the remake.
The added songs where awful. Melissa McCarthy (I loveeee her) tried her hardest and brought out a fun side to Ursula but to me it all felt very forced. Her voice not right for the part and especially in song it was very flat compared to her animated version. Eric was so dull and lifeless that I couldn't for the life of me understand why Ariel would even want to go up to the human world.. for him?? Ugh.
They cut one of the best songs. The added scenes did nothing for the story except drag it on. It was torture and halfway through I debated if I should quit but I kept hoping something would change for the better.
The battle with giant Ursula was done nicely in terms of darkness. Might not be suitable for all children but I did see they aged it 9 and up. In the animated version it is Ariel that is caught in a whirlpool with Ursula sending light bolts down at her and Eric is controlling the wreckage that destroys Ursula... I feel like they flipped the roles here for the sake of feminism and the whole 'woke' path Disney is on. Didn't add anything the story but didn't take away from it either.
Oh and we won't even get into the awfullll CGI. With a budget as high as they had... Once upon a time did better with less.
Glad it's over and I hope they won't ever try to remake The little Mermaid 2.
A really weak season. The pacing was incredibly slow, slower than the previous seasons and sure, Ciri is a very important character (story wise the most important one) but I really would've loved to have seen more of the lesser characters such as Cahir, Fringilla and Tissaia.
There was one episode that stuck out (3x06) and was the only good episode this season. Tissaia's death was understandable but felt rushed.
First half of the season was a build-up toward episode 6 and after that it was build up for the next season. Oh, and definitely not a good farewell to Henry Cavill. They didn't do him justice in his last scene.
This episode was the highlight of the season for me. The characters, the vibe, the music.
Awful episode. I get it.. paparazzi vs celebs. I even understood how the werewolf could be seen as a metaphor for how someone can turn monstrous when pushed to far. But this was a snooze. Not up to the Black Mirror universe.
What this episode did very well was not show us the gruesome acts in gory detail but leave it up to your own imagination and that painted a very gnarly picture for me. One I was up thinking about plenty. Story wise a decent episode but slower paced than the previous and very predictable.
This episode had me up thinking about it. it paints a gnarly picture of how we consume true crime for entertainment purposes and totally disconnect from the fact that it's real life for some. Actually a really nasty story.
Great episode! Really makes you think about all the terms and conditions sheets you signed without reading. Plus a very relevant story given the strikes in the writing and acting industry right now.
I've watched the show a total of two times now and it feels like home somehow. The ladies, the lane, it draws you in and keeps you there until you finish it. Fun characters, at times over the top stories and a lot of drama!
Really enjoyed the finale. Was it the best? No. But the joy I got seeing the evil speedsters again (even if it was short) and Eddie as Cobalt Blue (again, they should have done this arc sooner so we would have gotten a proper story out of it, instead of this rushed version). And the way I cried seeing Caitlin again!!
The final episodes brought back some of the OG Flash magic but lacked in depth because everything felt so rushed and even forced at times. We were forced to bond with Mark over his loss, they went for a slow burn between Allegra and Chester but forced it down our throats the minute they ran out of time. I can't even begin to explain my disappointment in Cecile... who went from having some empath powers to one of the most powerful of them all??? Nah... forced.
What I did love about this season is Khione, Eddie, The negative speedforce, seeing Thawne and Hartley again and even the smallest bit of Wells! . Cisco would have completed it though.
Good ending, I had fun watching this show but what once started out as one of my favorite shows became sort of a drag. They should have ended it sooner.
We could have gotten so much more from Khione. I love her character and to think if they had introduced her earlier on we could have actually seen her powers evolve. I loved Frost and Caitlin but Khione tops them for me.
Finally, Cobalt Blue. Again, if only we gotten to this story sooner. Having Eddie back is already a love/hate thing.
The story feels like the Flash again but when he's missing and we are stuck with Allegra and Cecile again... ugh. I like Mark but man he feels forced at this point.
Nothing bad about Chester though... I honestly love him.
Great episode! We came full circle with this one.
One of the worst episodes in the history of The Flash. A filer episode that they probably needed until the conclusion of the show but jeez...
I really like Khione and I even dare to say I like her better then both Caitlin and Frost. This episode however... awful. Way to much attention to Cecile and Allegra... AGAIN.
Glad this bit is over. The only highlight was the 'good' rogues.
