I know most people don't respond well if you say something negative about their favorite show but I can't help it. If you like it I'm glad for you (really) but please allow me my opinion.
I am one of those who doesn't think that this is THE best show ever. It's not even the best sitcom in my opinion. It had its moments but not many. Maybe it isn't fair to judge it 25 years after the fact because that is a long time in TV land and things change. But most of the stuff I dislike has nothing to do with timeframe.
First, why this is called Friends is beyond me. Those are the most dishonest, selfish, egoistic and sometimes even mean group of people I've seen on TV. They constantly try to withhold stuff and most of the comedic situations spawn from that. I don't see where it is funny to go behind your friends backs. There are those moments where there behave like friends should, but those come usually after they screwed up.
Than there is the characters. I've written in some episode's comment that Ross is the most obnoxious character I've ever seen on TV. And I've seen my share. And there is WAY too much of him and Rachel who I also disliked deeply. They pull down every episode they're in which is pretty much every episode. That constant back and forth, the bickering and their pretensious behaviour is so annoying. Joey was funny at first but that wears out fast once you get past 50 episodes. Very one-dimensional. I don't even know what to say about Chandler because he is that bland. Monica went from "I don't care" through "I kinda like her" but ultimately annoying. Phoebe I liked until she, too, got the I-need-to-marry virus. Until that she was honest in that she didn't care what others thought about her and just made her thing. Alltogether there was little character developement in any of them. I couldn't connect with them and was more interested in what guest stars might turn up next.
And what it is anyway with all the girls need to find guys to marry and get babies and the guys needing to score? It is a good thing there wasn't any social media available because with all those gay and trans jokes there would have probably been a lot of heat.
That laughing track is way over the top. It accompanied literally every sentence. It even ruined jokes by starting to early. And what is wrong with building up an emotional moment and going through with it instead of ruining it with a bad joke ?
So, why did I watch, and even complete, it ? It's simple. And I mean that in the true sense of the word. You don't have to pay close attention to the plot, f.e. you don't have to stop it if the phone rings, you can even skip an episode completely. It's like having a radio playing in the background. Sometimes reading the synopsis was as interesting as the actual episode. Let's be honest: continuity, logic and depth of story were not the trademarks of Friends. It is full of holes and errors. But it fitted my daily schedule. I could drop in a couple of episodes here and there. And I punished myself a little bit because I went out and bought the whole series at once. Had I watched the first season first I would stopped there and then.
This is the longest review I've written in a while which shows I thought about this show a lot. I like versitality, it would be boring if every show was the same. That doesn't stop me though from speaking my mind. This is a love or hate kind of show. I don't hate it as such. But there were only just one or two episodes a season I think were more than average. It became better towards the end (either that or I caved) but it was an effort to get through and I am glad I'm done with.
This mini series is giving me a migraine, of all the decent series Netflix has canceled (Warrior Nun being the most recent) and then they put this up for viewers, really makes me wonder who is running the show there. This is trash TV nothing more. Thank god it's only 4 parts.
When I first watched season 1, I found this story astounding and brilliant, such a creative concept and also a marvellous way to tell it, the animation is really unique and makes the show a true rarity.
The story in S1 is really interesting and ends up on a huge cliff-hanger.
Due to the show being very different from anything else that I have ever seen, I thought there was no way I would see a second season.
I'm glad I've been proven wrong.
So, to my full surprise we got to see more, how's season 2?
I really liked it, granted it is a bit different from the first in the way the story evolves.
We get to go deeper on the real root of the problems that this family had to go through, we learn of a stranded child, and a forgotten memory.
But eventually, even if we get to fix stuff that seemed undefeatable, some problems are unfixable, even with the power to bend time and reality to your will, and we all have to "go back and face ourselves", to bring closure to the pain we are trying to cope with.
When I ended S2E7, I thought "the show just got to a beautiful ending, it's almost too good to be true, what's left to show for another episode?"
Well, the answer was reality. Alma learns that she has to go back, back to the beginning of this season, when she still didn't know if she actually managed to give her father a second chance, back when the world seemed grim and hopeless.
She wanted to stay in the happy ending, where everything is perfect and beautiful and all her problems have never even existed, and yet she understands that she has to go back because life is not a fable and it just doesn't end with "and they all lived happily ever after.
I had the feeling the show would end with a "it was all a dream/fantasy she had while looking at the cave" kind of trope, and that would have greatly undermined the plot in my opinion. This, however, I really appreciate.
I don't know if we will ever see a third season to this, I don't even know if I really hope it does at this point, what is left to show?
Sure they can come up with something and I would be glad to once again delve deep into this wonderful story, but I feel like the story could end here and be completed.
Alma got to a point where she knows there are better alternate versions of her, versions that are more succesfull, versions that have a more cohesive family, versions where she is just happier, but she chose to go back to her reality because it's HER reality, it's her place in all this. I think she is finally ready to "start fresh" and accept herself for what she truly is.
This show gives me hope. If alternate realities exist, there sure is one where I'm better, stronger, smarter, happier. But also ones where I'm worse, weaker, dumber, unfulfilled. We have to learn to embrace our life for what it is, in the good and the bad, and everyday make it closer to our dreams instead of fantasizing on what it could have been. And even if it seems like we are living in the worse of our possible realities, eventually we will find the light that shows us purpose.
This show is NOT The Witcher. It is some random generic fantasy show with "The Witcher" slapped into the title to get people to actually watch it.
This show literally destroys every piece of lore we have from the books about the timeline of this universe. They also changed Ciri's origins/heritage, and absolutely butchered both Eredin and Avallac’h. They even somehow managed to throw in some stupid remark that makes out Geralt to be racist against elves.
Canonically, this show is an abomination that should be buried deep down where no one can ever find it. If you are even remotely a fan of the books, this show will infuriate you.
Taking away the bastardisation of the source materials, the show still isn't good. Dialogue is awful, unnatural, and clunky. Characters are shallow to the point where one of the main character's sister dies in front of her in the first episode, only for her to not show any emotion or care about what just happened. The plot is about as generic as you can get when it comes to a fantasy show.
Do you love Gravity Falls? Then you might love Hilda too. I am really impressed by this tv series. Voice actors were amazing and animation was absolutely lovely. I really enjoyed this tv series! Trolls, magic, deer fox and fantasy creatures. You will love that!
