Is this the right order? The DVD has it all different:

1 - Serenity
2 - The Train Job
3 - Bushwhacked
4 - Shindig
5 - Safe
6 - Our Mrs. Reynolds
7 - Jaynestown
8 - Out Of Gas
9 - Ariel
10 - War Stories
11 - Trash
12 - The Message
13 - Heart Of Gold
14 - Objects In Space

@ptknight No, when the series aired, the episodes were not aired in their proper order, which was a complain about the series back then. The DVD set has them in the correct order.

Great movie, Bronson was the original man with no name, a role later taken by Clint Eastwood in the later Leone flicks.

Quite silly but built up to an exciting conclusion. How idiotic was the crew member at the start taking his glove off? I know that The Next Generation did a sequel to this and I always thought that was one of the sillier TNG episodes, but it's nowhere near the levels of this! Sulu running around with a fencing sword was pretty extreme, but Spock's breakdown was done well.

I'm assuming the timewarp formula figured out at the end is what Star Trek IV uses?

@lefthandedguitarist Also how Bones just so easily rips off the sleeve on Kirk's shirt so he can inject the cure. Federation shirts are made so cheap.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

A fresh start with Boruto, I remember watching the original Naruto over a decade and a half ago, it had its ups and downs but kept me engaged. You will always have your filler episodes but I for one still loved the anime. Now 2 generations later and we have Boruto, the spunkier son of Naruto the Hokage of Konoha.

Fun and light to start but as the episodes progress there is a slight dark undertone which you can always appreciate with the Naruto series. Lets hope there is less hope there are less filler episodes and more constant action. Can't wait for more episodes, up until this point it has been pretty damn good. If you haven't seen it then you should.

loading replies

@zdistrict If you define "filler" as being material not from the original manga, then you're out of luck here. Remember that as with most manga, 2 chapters make up one episode of the TV series, the manga is only up to chapter 48, and we got over 170 episodes of the series, so yes, most of the series is original material.

The movie Signs stole the whole water burns aliens BS from Zim!! The whole sequence where Zim throws a water balloon using all of the water from the planet was incredibly well done.

@scoop20906 Alien Nation did it first, granted it was salt water.

Apparently by reading the comments here and on the 1982 version, not many know the original movie was actually The Thing from Another World 1951. All being based on the 1938 book Who Goes There?.

loading replies

@wambie I saw the 1951 movie as a kid, I think in the late 1960's or early 1970's, and always remembered it as just "The Thing", forgetting the "from anther world " part. It might be that like me, a lot of people forgot the rest of the title.

Didn't Rin's team already got over the whole Satan's spawn like 4 episodes ago. So annoying that they started with this ish again. I get it that there was a big time span between season 1 and 2 but there's no need to dredge back ish that was already covered and surpassed in season 1...ugh.

@jojo-sxm This arc follows the manga and takes place after episode 17 of the first season. Everything after episode 17 of that season was filler since it had caught up to the manga at that point so an anime only ending was created for it. Best to ignore everything after episode 17 of the first season.

I randomly came across this and played it. First 10 mins I'm like WTF is this? An anime about Showgirls? Shortly afterwards there was fighting mechs and demons. Weirdest mix I have seen in some time. First episode wasn't awful, but I really don't see how this can stay interesting with such an awful premise.

loading replies

@neilquan I think this is either a reboot or a sequel to a series of the same name from a couple of decades back. I remember the girls using mechcas in the early part of the 20th century but not the showgirls part. But like I said it was a couple of decades back.

Princess Jellyfish

This was a great anime. But the ending was too of abrupt. They should have made this into a 24 episodes anime.

loading replies

@dunpealhunter Indeed, , the manga continued further along and I think that ended in 2017. There was a live action movie in 2014, and a live action TV series in 2018. Considering the 2018 series is after the manga ended, it's likely to use more source material.

Robot Chicken: 8x08 Joel Hurwitz

Please ignore my other comment on this episode. It was meant for the X-mas special, and trakt got mixed up with the numbering.

This was a mixed bag of an episode. There were some great little gags like the salmon returning to Spawn, or the no-shirt no-shoes no service guy during the Purge, but the major sketches like The Predator/Bachelor mash up and the Ex-Men mash up fell pretty flat. One of those "stay for the side dishes, but ignore the main course" episodes.

loading replies

@andrewbloom Not just Trakt, Hulu mixed it up too, showing the Christmas Special as epsiode 7 of this season and this as episode 8.

BoJack Horseman: 4x05 Thoughts and Prayers

[8.5/10] Best of the season so far. I really enjoyed the A-story, of BoJack and Hollyhock visiting BoJack’s mom in her nursing home. There’s some real complex emotional stuff going on here, without the show laying it on too thick like it does on occasion. The fact that BoJack has such tremendous resentment for his mom, while Hollyhock just sees a sad old lady riddled with dementia, creates interesting inflection points between the two.

Plus, the fact that Mrs. Horseman can’t recognize her own son in the flesh (mistaking him for her maid, Henrietta) but sees him and even laughs at his antics on Horsin’ Around creates a really interesting conflict for BoJack, with hints that beneath her acerbic passive aggression, maybe she cares about him or at least notices him in some small way. On top of that, her distress at BoJack trying to do an episode as a stage play was gripping and uncomfortable in just the right way. Plus, I love the Hot Rod-esque reversal that BoJack wishes his mom was still mentally with it, not so that he could tell her loves her, but so he could tell her off.

The B-story is great too. There’s tremendous social satire in Diane’s story, which finds the intersection of feminism and the gun control debate. The notion of a traditionally left-wing issue like women feeling unsafe around and a traditionally right-wing issue like gun rights being blended together to halfway solve both problems creates some amusing and incisive social commentary. The twist that California only outlaws guns when a woman is responsible for a mass shooting is an amusing resolution.

To the same end, the recurring bit about the movie industry people getting constant google alerts about mass shootings and responding with the same monotone “thoughts and prayers” language is a very dark but also hilarious strain of humor. It’s always nice to have J.K. Simmons back in the fold, and their schtick about repurposing a gun violence movie as a female empowerment movie is another nice bit of satire, this time aimed at Hollywoo.

Overall, this is the first episode of the season where every facet of the show has been firing on all cylinders. Nice to see!

loading replies

@andrewbloom Funny thing about the B story is that it parallels what actually happened in California with gun control, except that instead of women, it was black people owning guns that freaked out people so much that gun control was signed into law in California, signed into law by then Gov. Ronald Reagan, and it was supported by the NRA.

Futurama

I've noticed that Trakt only has 7 seasons listed while Netflix has seasons 7 - 10, having just recently dropped the first 6 seasons that
originally aired on FOX. Did Netflix make further episodes since I don't see them mentioned anywhere else?

loading replies

@medous Okay I changed my mind about updating. I checked the Futurama wiki and found that broadcast season 8 is actually the last 13 episodes of season 6 that weren't originally broadcast and is also listed as season 6B, with season 6A being the DVD release. Broadcast season 9 is the first half of production season 7, broadcast season 10 is the later half of production 7.

@wayfarer I checked TheMovieDB and it only has up to season 7. Since I have an account with them, I could probably get a list of the later seasons and episodes from Netflix and use that to update, then syn with Trakt. I had recently done this with a movie that was missing cast info.
