Absolutely stunning visual masterpiece that is looking for an equal, not only in the chinese animated movie space.
The story and themes were also deeper than expected, just like the sea I guess!
If you can experience this in a cinema, preferably in 3D even, it should be experienced that way!
One of the best Pirate themed movies in a while and one of the better adventure movies in general! But it REALLY could've done without the penguins. o_O
I mean, for a b-movie that was pretty ok. Could've done with a bit more Mariko Shinoda screentime tho. :3
What a cast! And what a tragically funny story. Highly enjoyed that and to think who's careers all got kick-started by that paper... pretty amazing.
Well DAMN, I did not expect that. That ranks pretty high up there among my favourite movies of the year. :D
Fantastic stuff, well acted with a lot of heart, many laughs and your usual korean dose of action and drama. Highly recommended!
IN WHAT WORLD IS THIS EVEN PARTIALLY A COMEDY!
But yeah... can't remember the last time a movie made me this sad... and happy? I don't know. I just know I cried a lot and that this movie certainly is something special.
Some dope ass action sequences TBH, keep that shit coming Netflix. :D
Didn't know Yoona was in this so that was a surprising bonus. :D
Besides that, well crafted action sequences; decent plot and character development and it didn't really paint any of the koreas black or white... I kinda want a sequel now and considering it did pretty good at the box office this might actually be a possibility!
This vimeo video https://vimeo.com/166811354 made me appreciate the movie even more, you might wanna watch it.
It's quite sobering to watch this on the eve of the 2016 election... they thought they had one of the most vicious and dirty campaigns in 2008 and look how far we've come. All the parallels between this, Palin and Trump this year... kinda amazing.
Oh America, you'll never learn.
Even for someone like me, who has no real clue about manga or does not read any at all, this is a wonderfully entertaining celebration of the art and artists. A fine movie with some terrific and imaginative sequences, a neat cast and story and a completely amazeballs soundtrack by sakanaction which should be worth to watch this alone. Also Nana Komatsu is always a wonderful sight to behold.
Corny and cheesy but yeah... can't really complain. We need more hollywood movies with BoA, ok?
Eh... a bit too much I'd say. Convoluted for the sake of it. But yes, as others mentioned, great soundtrack!
Haha yeah, the German title is indeed better.
But as said before, still a very funny movie. Holds up well and Eddie Murphy is just a hoot as always!
That is what happens if you ask "come to brazil" one too many times.
A love-story to the place and people that made Takeshi Kitano Takeshi Kitano. Well done movie that made me quite emotional, fans of Kitano or his work should give it a go. :)
Man, that movie hits you like a freight train, multiple times. (I am really sorry for writing that... but it's true!)
But can we PLEASE stop casting 30+ years old actors and actresses as... highschool students? I'd expect that from a The CW show but not from korean movies... :(
Entertaining romp. Prolly not Miike's best, but anyway, well worth a watch. Becky kinda stole the show, not gonna lie. :D
And here I was, thinking that "The Bad Batch" was a pretty bad movie already. Silly me...
How did they get any of those actors to perform in this garbage fire?
If you value your time in any way, don't make the same mistake that I did and waste it on this hackjob. The story sounded interesting or at least fun but the execution was so bad... The movie could've used at least another month in post-production, some of the editing is bafflingly bad, not even talking about the laughable CGI or the terrible sound design.
Avoid!
I really should't be surprised by russian movies at this point any more, should I? Seen quite a few impressive movies recently and this here is no different. Sure, the story may be generic but also very entertaining and cute! And some scenes in this were just pretty damn amazingly shot... the musical sequences alone, damn. Give this one a shot if you want a real-life Disneyesque experience with a russian spin!
Kinda disappointing, guess I expected more because they had a Korean director? Not sure, it's just your usual Chinese garbage tho. :/
Might've been a bit too long, gone a bit too overboard with the fictional part of the story but daaamn those were some pretty crazy final 20 minutes.
That was actually pretty darn good. And what a good cast too!
I really loved the Japanese original, Key of Life, so I was intrigued by the Korean remake. And honestly, they did a pretty good job with it. Seen much worse remakes and this had quite a few good laughs, some action and a... rather Korean romance. I'll take it!
It's absolutely mindboggling again and again what the Korean's are able to do with a puny budget, like the $9 Million for this one. The set and costume design, production values in general and everything were so spot on as usual, amazing!
Tho as Manny said, the movie was maybe a tad too long but besides that another brilliant piece in Kim Jee-Woon's book of which I've seen them all. Fantastic cast and better than 2015's "Assassination" which was similar in setting.
Well worth your time!
I mean... it's a Sion Sono movie, expect the unexpected. ;)
But missed opportunity here, it needed way more Mariko Shinoda fighting in a way bloodier wedding dress, that would've made my day!
Who would've thought that one of the best SciFi Action movies of the year would come from Netflix? Well, in the future we might consider that more and more if this is anything to go by. Sure, the movie had a few minor issues but overall it was a pretty well directed romp, decently acted & with even a semi believable/scientifically sound premise and some top-notch visuals. Certainly enjoyed this one and will keep my fingers crossed for more quality material like this from Netflix, they've had a good year IMO.
That was one of the best films I have seen all year and with 300+ films watched I don't say that lightly.
Beautiful.
(You know trakt, one word sometimes is more than enough to perfectly express what needs to be said about a movie or anything for that matter.)
