Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

I've just watched this in the original English audio for the first time. It might be nostalgia speaking, but I must say I enjoyed the Brazilian dub much more, specially the singing parts! :)

Insurgent

The most frustrating, boring and tiresome movie ever. Completely unrelated to the book as well, and not just a few chances here and there, but really, truly, completely unrelated. It felt like an endless nightmare and I couldn't stop checking the time. I'm not sure what happened here, the first movie was so good!

Elite Cup

It doesn't really matter if you like Elite Squad or not, the quality of the original movie is pretty undeniable. Captain Nascimento is an iconic and brilliantly played character; the controversy around the movie was more than enough to fuel a parody, but of course, this movie follows the stupid route of empty content. It's shame though, because the cast is actually very talented - the only reason why I made it through the end.
I'm blaming the director and writers, who have been involved in terrible pieces before.

Coxinha e sem sal. Exactly what I expected from Fiuk. What is Lilia even doing there? That woman is brilliant. If that movie got even 4 hears is because that woman can make even the most unfunny line sound funny! And Leandro Firmino too. That guy is hilarious!

Isolados

It's unfair to compare it to Antichrist. There are similarities, yes - a psychiatrist and his girlfriend go to a cabin in the woods - but the development couldn't be more different.

Personally, I did enjoy the movie. I liked the twist at the end and I hadn't seen it coming at all. The acting is really good and feels incredibly natural, like they are not acting at all. In fact, combined with the directing and peculiar camera work, it felt strangely immersing - like a reality show that is actually showing the truth. Since it's so strangely natural, someone who isn't sucked in might think the movie goes a bit slow. Personally though, I thought it was brilliant. I was very pleased and very impressed with Brazil's ability to produce good thrillers!

Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins

I love the adaptation of the characters, but not so much of the plot. It became slow and boring and as previously mentioned in another comment, kind of disconnected. You keep watching because the characters are very entertaining, and it was amazing how well they converted the fighting techniques from the anime and manga to live action. Very impressive!

American Hustle

I couldn't actually finish it, and that fact alone allows me to rate it so badly. So hard to get into!

It was hard getting into the story, but the occasional creepy moments made it worth my time.

Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever

A bit more cliche than the original, but still decent. Gory fun good enough to watch in a group!

Sherlock Holmes

One of the most offensive pieces I have ever seen in my life. It isn't an even adaptation, it's an entire new set of characters who happen to be named after the original ones by Conan Doyle. Downey Jr. just seems to play the same character again and again, and that character isn't Holmes.

S.O.S.: Women to the Sea

How very sad. The cast has seasoned actors, known for amazing performances on both live theater and TV, and yet it feels they didn't try at all. The script was even lamer than usual for a romantic comedy and the acting made it just unbearable. I honestly couldn't bother to finish it, but I doubt it'd get any better. Take this as a very long ad for MSC Cruises an maybe it becomes acceptable, but as a movie, it's just a very unfunny and disappointing piece.

300: Rise of an Empire

Amazing cast and acting, but unfortunately talent alone can't save a movie. With all the editing, CGI, and slow-motion the action scenes looked more like animation than live-action film. Plot-wise, it could have been interesting, but for some reason I kept counting how long until the end. The soundtrack honestly didn't help, it was bland and unmemorable. The one highlight is Queen Gorgo heading into battle, the one moment where you would actually care to look at the screen instead of checking your e-mail.

Pompeii

A love story with an action-filled development, I really don't see nothing wrong with it. The plot was simple and very like Romeo and Juliet - star-crossed lovers who go through all kinds of challenges and sacrifices for each other, when they've actually barely spent 10 minutes together. I think the reason why people disliked this movie is because they expected a true action flick, and what they got was a very sweet romance instead. The whole movie is filled with romantic aspects commonly found in epic literature, and this was a nice touch, as I often feel Hollywood actually prefers to sacrifice those idealistic notions for more visually shocking scenes. The special effects provided a very nice background, and I'm not even the type who enjoys those. The acting was good, what lacked was simply character depth, which is unsurprising since the main focus was on the action. I'd describe it as visually striking, simple and enjoyable - I wouldn't mind watching it again sometime.

Big Time Rush

I haven't enjoyed many Nick shows for the past, well, 15 years or so, but Big Time Rush was great! It reminded me a lot of older shows I used to love.

A Haunting at Silver Falls

Don't let the cover or the ratings fool you, this is a surprisingly decent flick. Pretictable, sure, and the ending is rather lame, but the development was quite thrilling! The interaction between Jordan and the ghosts of the twins rather than portrayed as scary is just very tense, and I liked that. I'm tired of movies where the ugly ghost screams and you're supposed to be scared by mere ugliness. Instead, these ghosts have a goal and actually achieve it, giving it a nice feeling of conclusion. I wish the movie had been longer, if anything - I felt like some characters (specially the killer) were somewhat lacking and that they could have taken the extra time to explore those.

The Bell Witch Haunting

This movie is sad. Sad execution, sad production, sad plot, sad acting, and it makes me sadder because it's my favorite ghost story.

Grand Piano

Plot holes, plot holes everywhere. But Elijah's great acting and the good music made this quite entertaining despite it all.

Romeo & Juliet

I appreciate how close they kept to the play, but that effort was wasted in actors who couldn't seem to embrace their characters. It's really sad hearing such timeless lines said so robotically. In some instances, it even felt like the actor didn't understand the meaning of the words.

But while some failed, others did surprisingly well. It was interesting to see young people such as Hailee Steinfield and Kodi Smit-McPhee excelling at their roles. The lines came so naturally out of their mouths it felt like they've been talking like that for all their lives!

Beware the Gonzo

I've been keeping an eye out for Ezra Miller ever since Afterschool (which I loved), but it took me a while to get to this - and well, I'm just glad the synopsis didn't allow much room for expectations. It's a funny teen movie (bonus points for Jesse McCartney) but it runs as blend as most of the genre. I would not watch it again.

Cougars, Inc.

Wasn't this a surprise? It looks like your average silly teen comedy, but ended up being a quite nice teen romantic drama.

Deadfall

Hannah's (Kata Mara) was the best storyline, but just like every other character's, it was extremely underdeveloped. There was a lot of potential here, such a shame it was wasted. I hate saying this, but yes, this is a seriously boring movie.

Veronica Mars

Aah, finally. Veronica Mars was one of my favorite shows when I was a teenager, and the third season by CW was just frustrating. It's nice to finally have this movie, full of familiar faces (I wish Leighton had played Carrie Bishop though, I missed her!) and the same old Veronica struggling with her self-destructive drives. And well, to have her and Logan back together, yes, that was all I wanted!
