This is the perfect late-night movie, it has got a pretty alright story but the cast really makes this film so much better and you do want to know what happens to each of them as the story goes along. Also, if you like gangster films or mob films then you will find yourself pretty entertained as Christopher Walken (Frank White) just makes this film so good and he might be one of the best crime bosses I have seen in a gangster film and dare I say one of his best performances.
Just give it a watch, even if it's just for the cast and just know it isn't original but its really well directed and some really quotable scenes. The ending is a bit of a let down for me but that's my opinion.
Also, Lawrence Fishburne (Jimmy Jump) is over the top in the film but it works soooooo perfectly in my opinion.
Not quiet as good as the as the first two flicks of the series in my opinion, but I liked the idea of sending the whole NYPD on a goose chase very much!
I'm in the middle of watching this film series for the first time and so far this was the most intriguing one.
However, first act got my attention the most while Simon stayed hidden.
Bruce Willis returns to the role that made him a star, with Samuel L. Jackson along for the ride as his unwitting new partner. A furious ticking time bomb (both literally and metaphorically), it's nearly on the same level as the original with wall-to-wall action and one high-pressure twist after another. Jackson and Willis are masters of the action set, playing up the tension while easily building a great dynamic together, and there are enough ginormous obstacles around to keep them at a dead sprint. Large, loud and ludicrous, it's still loads of fun after all this time.
John McTiernan returns to the Die Hard series with a Vengeance, directing this thrilling and action-packed third installment. This time NYPD detective John McClane must play a deadly game of Simon Says with a terrorist who’s threatened to detonate a series of bombs planted throughout New York City unless John completes a series of tasks. Unfortunately, the story’s overly complicated and falls apart in the last act. Additionally, the villains are underdeveloped and don’t feel organic to the plot. Still, McTiernan does a great job at crafting dynamic and intense action sequences that grab the audience. And the performances by Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Irons are fairly strong. A bit contrived and over plotted, Die Hard With a Vengeance doesn’t live up to the previous films, but it still manages to deliver some exciting thrills and explosive action.
Miles ahead of the 1998 version, creature effects to die for, and a decent nod to the original Japanese movies.
Still...can't give this a top score. It's entertaining, and you don't feel bored after 2 hours of giant creature bonanza, but there are something missing.
The story is ok, and the actors do a good job within the framework of the script, but somehow I feel that I have seen everything before in other movies. I'm not sure what give me that feeling, but after seeing it twice...it was even worse.
Good enough for an evening's entertainment if you haven't seen it. Not that exciting the second time through...
I don't know why, but I really enjoy this movie even though I'm not a big Nic Cage fan.
I know people shit on this movie a lot, and I get that the plot is ridiculous. but its so FUN! Thats all I ask for- to be entertained. ignore the insanity of the plot and just enjoy it.
Don't watch that movie if you are very religious. Really funny
Kevin Smith's religious epic Dogma is a fun and entertaining film that's irreverently hilarious. When two cast out angels discover a loophole that will allow them to re-enter Heaven a disillusioned Catholic is called upon to stop them. An impressive cast has been assembled, and includes Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Alan Rickman, George Carlin, and Chris Rock. Additionally, Smith's writing is pretty sharp, with some witty dialog and clever humor. However, his directing is still rather weak, and the editing is sloppy. Dogma is Kevin Smith's most ambition film yet, and despite the rough edges he succeeds at delivering an incredibly funny adventure.
Kevin Smith's unflinching onslaught upon organized religion that masks its intentions under the guise of an over-indulgent, goofy stoner road trip. Although he's chewing on some very thick meat in this one, a weighty, opinionated take on a touchy subject isn't quite enough to compensate for the sheer volume of quirks and trademarks the writer/director once again puts up on display.
Every on-screen character speaks in long, unbroken monologues; basically mouthpieces for Smith himself. Jay and Silent Bob, the inessential links to Smith's earlier films, feel shoehorned into a plot that would've worked just as well (if not better) without them. Punchlines are virtually spelled out along the bottom of the screen, or glaringly in the backgrounds. It's a pity, because the film does have some valid points about the shortcomings of organized religion and the evolution of spirituality - particularly Catholicism - but amidst so much sinewy excess that central message is nearly clouded beyond interpretation.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, still fresh from the success of Good Will Hunting, turn in strong performances as ignorant fallen angels but ultimately there’s little for them to work with.
I've seen this beautiful movie for the first time when I was a young girl in the cinema theatre, and I loved it. Bella was the first "Disney Princess" I was able to relate with. After so many years it is a wonderful experience to see the Special Edition, amazing work in the aimation and the story is as touching as ever.
I was expecting to laugh, not cry...
A young German Johannes (Roman Griffin Davis) loves Hitler. So much that he imagines him as his imaginary friend (Taika Waititi). He’s naive to what being a Nazi really means and the lives it ruins.
Until he meets a Jewish girl and must decide if he wants to turn her in. Which is a dilemma because his mom (Scarlett Johansson) is the one hiding her in the attic.
Instantly the best movie I saw from 2019. It’s touching, funny, charming and well acted. Also occasionally takes darker turns than you don’t expect. Which does make sense after all. Jojo Rabbit is a film about Nazis.
Drawn inspiration from every action sub-genre, John Wick 3 Parabellum provides seemingly endless amount of guns and gore, great scenes great lighting great locations, old friends... all perfectly right and satisfying. the only problem is that, and as a fan it bothers me to have to point it out: Thats the same complements we gave to john wick 1 & 2.
3 to 1… fingers I mean!!
Must be the funniest short scene in all the movie.
I don’t get the appeal of these.
Yeah, the stuntwork’s great, but I see no redeeming qualities besides that. The acting sucks, the dialogue’s corny, the story is schlock that’s presented way too seriously, the characters are uninteresting, there’s little to no tension because the main character is an invincible cartoon, the music’s unmemorable and generic, and most of the film is just plain damn boring.
All the good stuff that this has to offer is also offered by franchises like Mission Impossible and Fast and Furious, and more on top of that.
You’re not getting the clever intrigue or fun gimmicks of the MI franchise here, nor the tongue in cheek comedy or creative, over the top insanity of the F&F franchise.
This is so boring by comparison to me.
4/10
It looked like most of the characters in this movie were actually trying to be killed.
It was really Star Wars, as it should be, full of the old and the new, the light and the dark. What more could you ask for from the film of the year?
A phenomenal sequel to the original trilogy and an amazing show of loyalty to the original cast, crew and filming techniques used 40 years ago. A refreshing surprise after the sidetracking Sith trilogy. 10/10
Literally the best movie of the whole series. And I'm qualified to say that because I was obsessed with the original 3 in the 90s. #yolo, my dudes. I know, you'll never recover, but it IS freaking amazing. #maythe4th
Breathtakingly beautiful film. The first three quarters have familiar beats but they never get tiring leading to a pinnacle of a last quarter that absolutely broke me. Ends in a picture perfect “happily ever after”, which, for critics, could have been a gripe. But I don’t know who deserves the “happily ever after” more than these characters.
Please watch this beautiful film. If you have anything bad to say about it after, you’ll have to get by me first.
Beautiful movie! Gorgeous special effects, lovely songs, relatable characters, and all of the actors fit their roles perfectly in my opinion. Brilliant representation of the original animation <3
Don't know! I just couldn't feel the chemistry between the two, it was a bit dull. And don't get me started about the songs
Well, the production values are high. That being said, it was a completely unnecessary film that offered nothing original or interesting other than the gimmick of being live-action versus animated. Such a blatant money grab from the evil empire. It's like even making the effort at their same old tired formula has become too much work. Instead... take one of your most popular films, point the camera at some trending stars and the token respected name or two, then put the marketing machine in motion.
I only recently learned of Audrey Hepburn's involvement in the Dutch war resistance, which reminded me that I've seen so few of her films. I've been correcting this mistake, and I was honestly quite surprised by this film. I'm quite happy with how it ended, especially as any other end would have seen Bradley's machinations be rewarded - either financially or by winning the girl. It's aged much better throughout than, say, Breakfast at Tiffany's.
I happened to watch the movie today (July 4th 2021) not knowing that the movie ends on the shot of the July 4th ball in 1921. Very creepy.
Kubrick is comically overrated as a screenwriter and this movie fails to measure up to the source material. Like all of his other films, his terrible sense of style has dated this film to the point that I cannot separate it from the terrible memories I have of the 80's. I hate this movie intensely and resent its popularity with other horror fans.
This abomination has so far spawned four sequels. FOUR. The latest of which came out only two years ago. Wh.... WHAT?!
