A live-action short film that gets nominated for an Oscar despite not being mostly dead serious? That's truly a rarity. "An Irish Goodbye" is a black-humored comedy about two brothers who reunite after the untimely death of their mother. The film is reasonably heartwarming. Unfortunately, the humor didn't really work for me most of the time. But I did occasionally chuckle. All in all, the whole thing is enjoyable enough.
Oh fucker it got cancelled? What a bunch of wankers they are up at producer land.
WTF, again another canceled Scifi show? This is disgusting. This madness has to end. Fucking producers steal our time and leave us with cliffhangers.
Let's have 30 seasons of Kardashians but 8 episodes for something good. Truly don't get it.
The way her fierce fight for survival against neglect, judgement, and loneliness was portrayed hit right in the feels beautifully
I'll come right out and say it - I don't understand what it all meant. I did some reading after finishing the film and apparently the film is (very) loosely based on some literature from several centuries ago. No matter. I also didn't quite understand the central struggle. For much of the film I assumed that it was about the quest for honor and if that is even a worthy quest to begin with. But ultimately I enjoyed the film because it was an interesting journey that was visually stunning. I can't say that I enjoyed it as much as the director's previous works (Ghost Story and Ain't Them Bodies Saints) but I did enjoy it.

The Green Knight is an epic character study that takes it's time following the path of a man finding worth in his life, but that slow progression is also its downfall.
This movie was really gripping at first, I was invested in the first 30 minutes but that flow slowly starts to fade during the mid-section. At this point the scenes begin to drag a bit and the story jumps from one section to the next so quickly that it can be a bit disorienting as to where you are. Despite the slight pacing issues, this film is still a treat to watch.
The visuals and the atmosphere of this film is really well done, each scene felt perfectly crafted. The mix between CGI and practical affects are a real bright spot as today so many movies rely too much on the computerized effects. The tone had me completely captivated, as adventure unfolds there are many darks turns where our protagonist has to preserver to get to his objective. This perseverance is what evolves him as a character and is what enables him to be worthy of knighthood. I bought that evolution due to the fantastic job Dev Patel does in this film.
Patel encapsulates so much of what Gawain is, a reckless and immature child who has done nothing with his life. This causes a great deal of insecurity as he feels not worthy to be in the presence of his uncle, the king, even though he has royal blood. The sense of unsureness is carried throughout the film brilliantly by Patel, and it is not until the end where he truly becomes worthy for the crown. This performance is spectacular, and Dev Patel deserves all the accolades for this film.
Overall, The Green Knight was a really interesting experience. Although it does not warrant its runtime and pacing could have been done better, it is still an excellent film that I enjoyed. Even after watching, the more research I do and more I think about it, the more it gets better due to the complex symbolism and presentation that does not make itself known on the first watch.
Grade: 83%
Verdict: Great
One of those cases where the overall film is a bit less than the sum of its parts. We've got unique characters, strong performances, and memorable scenes, but the somewhat disjointed three part structure made me wish there had been a stronger narrative through line to tie everything together. It just felt like there were lots of setups without payoffs, which results in an unsatisfying experience despite the quality filmmaking. I'd also say the film was a tad overindulgent at times. Still, I had good time.
This movie is what The Menu wasn't. An acid comedy with social criticism. It kind of reminded me of The Lord of the Flies. I liked the plot twist at the end. I liked the script. I didn't enjoy the dinner part because it was too much for me (disgusting), but everything else was fine.
Excellent satire on wealth and the greed of the rich. The ending disappointed due to its abstact nature but for the most part, this is a funny and insightful film. Rest in peace Charibi Dean - you were taken from us far too soon.
Very good, so loving. Non-actors are better than actors at being subjects. Harris Dickinson is a star. Could just be because I'm rewatching it in preperation for it's final season at the moment but lots of the ambient backing over shots of English housing estates and strong-willed kids reminded me of Brian Eno's soundscapes on 'Top Boy'.
Favourite shot: the kids playing on the hill with the housing estate windows in the background - felt like Taiwanese New Wave framing, the camera as an observer only.
I am a sci-fi fan, not a gamer...don't care about the game story or the books.....All I saw was an excellent first epidode of a new sci-fi series. I don't think they ever intended for it to be an accurate representation of the game. I mean who would spend millions to make a series or TV show only to appeal to a limited number of hard core game fans??? This series so far only 1 episode, but I for one am loving it.
I´m a gamer and never played Halo more than 5 minutes. I dont care if it doesnt follow the source material or if he took his helmet off. This is an incredibly awesome action sci-fi show! Just enjoy it!
I was a little worried due to all the backlash I saw about the first episode. Watched it, and thought it got too much hate. Please don't cancel this.

I did not expect this show to rigidly follow the path of John Spartan shown in the Halo franchise, and was delighted with what I saw. Despite the comments by the trolls and the Halo purist's the elements are all there and a central female character is needed for a television audience, the storyline is just a slight detour in a Halo multiverse (to mix metaphor's). I thought it was a GREAT start for a television series and want to see more. Way to go Paramount!
This really surprised me. Old style silly humour which brits will be very familiar with (like the old black adder,, mobty python stuff). Great production and the time flew by for me. Great actors, funny script and a big adventure story. This was lots of fun and scratched a itch I didn't realise I had - the nostalgic craving for silly humour that isn't disgusting /all about sex.
I loved the friendships between asterix and obelix. The other characters aren't side lines though - proper development and stories of their own. Everything looks beautiful too - in France, in China and in between.
I really this adventure movie with great characters - recommend it.
A perfect film for me. Hilarious and heartwarming and all the emotions in between. Quirky high quality performances but the film keeps it's independent local kiwi vibe (which i adored).
I love the overarching themes of irregular people finding companionship and love through adventure, rebellion, nature and shared experiences.
Some might feel this isn't as polished or as consistently laugh out loud as some of Waititi's other offerings but the wildness and uber quirkiness of this film - along with the hard hitting warm emotions / 100% positive feelings you're left with about humanity are what makes this one of my faves.
The humour in this is unreal - like just completely unexpected jokes come flying out of nowhere. I watched this with my mum and dad - the three of us are very different in humour and film tastes but we were all laughing out loud here. One of the early lines about Sam Neil's character carrying a hunted wild boar made me choke on my drink. Laughs don't stop from there.
The soundtrack reminded of 80s and 90s children's fantasy films at times, creating a magical and fun feeling. Paired with the writing / directing of scenes sometimes this film felt like a child's fever dream - a what if story of escaping modernity with your dogs and a loved grown up.
The only bad thing for me is that the film ended at all.
I really enjoyed this season 1. I'd be surprised as well as pissed off if this doesn't get a second season.
Some noticeable continuity issues here and there where they need to focus on. Maximus is a rather annoyingly simple character, I am glad they split Lucy and him at the end up (for now). They do not belong together and I am not invested in their romance, there's just too much other amazing/cool stuff happening where they should focus more on.
Lucy's father escaping the way he did was stupid, though. But keeps the story running, I guess. Her mother appearing like that was unexpected, quite a bleak but nice twist.
A lot of references in pretty much each episode. To fully appreciate this I think you need to be familiar with the Fallout games. Otherwise you will probably not fully understand some of the weird stuff (Vault 4 for example) happening in this world as it does not get explained (well, indirectly perhaps).
Still has its flaws here and there but I'd classify this as a from fans for fans type of series overall. In other words Jackpot.
Sidenote: Schockingly, any random guy in a Power Armor knows how to / is able to show more emotion than a seasoned actor like Pablo Schreiber.
Walton Goggins has played some interesting characters in the past, but The Ghoul is iconic.
I really liked The Ghoul’s and the little brother’s vault story coming to an epic shared conclusion. Lucy and Maximus had a really boring journey throughout, and never really seemed to grow as characters, Maximus is still a dumbass and Lucy is still clueless and gullible.
If you read this comment, it means you liked the series too. It ended leaving many questions in my mind. I'm glad the cowboy and the girl got together and her dad was a jerk. As always, as every good thing has an end, we have come to the end of this beautiful thing. Who will wait for the second season now? It's an excellent series, I've played and watched more or less the game. The acting, the environment, the effects, everything was good. Your efforts are like health and medicine.
This movie is already good on its own, but it becomes 10x better when you know what Patel went through to get it made.
The movie has already cemented itself as a classic of the vengeance subgenre, with echoes of Woo and Park Chan-wook, while bursting with enough originality for it to avoid feeling like a carbon copy.
It's a primal yell of a directorial debut from Dev Patel, already an underrated actor, who uses his unique experiences with religion and his own Indian heritage to bring the story of the film to life.
You can smell the blood and sweat wafting through the screen
The action scenes and fights, well, the rest is not bad, but it is not necessary to show the same memory several times. The Indian John Wick, sometimes yes, although more like the raid.
Unlike the other review I actually watched it and understood it, and enjoyed it. Very different and something new, in a good way. Look forward to more.
Edit: After watching the whole season wow, just wow,. Haven't enjoyed a show so much in a long time. Hope to see a season 2.
Definitely an interesting production. It feels like I am watching a noir film, but in a modern setting. Timeless story and personalities. Self-described addict to movies, which we see glimpses of from time to time, as if to show he imagines his life to be like one, with Bogart. The protagonist is a bit like a relict from the past. Lone gentleman in a suit, driving a vintage car, caring for the vulnerable, dealing with his own demons, longing for a mysterious woman, and who can see right through your deceit. Obvious allusions to the Golden age of Hollywood, but I also sense some inspiration by the French new-wave (inspired by the former). It also simply looks beautiful. I eagerly await new episodes.
EDIT after the finale - I love the topic of trying to understand what it means to be a human, the pensiveness and sensitivity of Sugar, the eerie quietness of every character, even the ones who are supposed to be aggressive.
7 hours of Guy Ritchie and a bunch of crazy british gangsters. What more could you want?
I get all of the undertones that the film is presenting. It almost felt too obvious at times. I get that the acting is supposed to be great, even if I thought that Emma Stone was terrible playing the "child" version of the character at the very beginning. I did enjoy some of the dark humor. But the steampunk/Wes Anderson style didn't do anything for me and never has.
Not to get into pun territory here but this was a little too "high art" for my tastes. However, about half way through I said to my girlfriend (who did find the film interesting) "ya know, the weed just hit in a way that made this movie tolerable." So there's that...
My Ratings
10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great, but got through it
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage
This is one of the better movies I have seen in a very long time. A refreshing take on the idea of Frankenstein…. This movie confirms that the more we are developed, enlightened and engaged the more complicated, depressing and a let down life is. The trials and tribulations of Bella as she develops from infancy in front of our eyes…. An eye opener for the viewer……. A great watch…. A must watch.
Poor Things - :heart:x8
This is definitely not a movie for everyone. It was a very interesting movie and beautiful. The sets and cinematography were absolutely gorgeous, great performances and interesting character development. And the musical score was quite haunting. Perhaps the most interesting/disturbing thing in this movie is seeing The Hulk in this setting - lol.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
This film was actually quite difficult for me to watch as a person with a neurodevelopmental disorder, despite Bella being a completely fictional and impossible concept, because the way Bella experiences the world, thought processes, her own emotions, and the emotions of others is at times a very accurate reflection of how many people with some types of neurodevelopmental disorders experience them. It’s kinda rough to see yourself in a character like that when the character is constantly being taken advantage of in their naivety and disability.
On top of that, her (literal) childlike innocence and curiosity is very strongly sexualized which makes me uncomfortable because while she’s obviously free to explore her sexuality, she is very easy to manipulate and sexually assault without her knowing it’s even happening, which is a very common occurrence for people with a neurodevelopmental disorder. And while, once again, I do recognize this is a completely different and fictional concept, it is so incredibly reminiscent of the daily abuse mentally and/or neurologically disabled people face, that it was very hard for me to sit through.
I also realize that this is a very personal experience and if you don’t relate to Bella in that way, it’s likely a lot easier to appreciate it for its beautiful cinematography and costume design, which is why I’m still rating it high for a film that made me uncomfortable for half of it.
