A live-action short film that gets nominated for an Oscar despite not being mostly dead serious? That's truly a rarity. "An Irish Goodbye" is a black-humored comedy about two brothers who reunite after the untimely death of their mother. The film is reasonably heartwarming. Unfortunately, the humor didn't really work for me most of the time. But I did occasionally chuckle. All in all, the whole thing is enjoyable enough.
Oh fucker it got cancelled? What a bunch of wankers they are up at producer land.
WTF, again another canceled Scifi show? This is disgusting. This madness has to end. Fucking producers steal our time and leave us with cliffhangers.
Let's have 30 seasons of Kardashians but 8 episodes for something good. Truly don't get it.
The way her fierce fight for survival against neglect, judgement, and loneliness was portrayed hit right in the feels beautifully
I'll come right out and say it - I don't understand what it all meant. I did some reading after finishing the film and apparently the film is (very) loosely based on some literature from several centuries ago. No matter. I also didn't quite understand the central struggle. For much of the film I assumed that it was about the quest for honor and if that is even a worthy quest to begin with. But ultimately I enjoyed the film because it was an interesting journey that was visually stunning. I can't say that I enjoyed it as much as the director's previous works (Ghost Story and Ain't Them Bodies Saints) but I did enjoy it.

One of those cases where the overall film is a bit less than the sum of its parts. We've got unique characters, strong performances, and memorable scenes, but the somewhat disjointed three part structure made me wish there had been a stronger narrative through line to tie everything together. It just felt like there were lots of setups without payoffs, which results in an unsatisfying experience despite the quality filmmaking. I'd also say the film was a tad overindulgent at times. Still, I had good time.
This movie is what The Menu wasn't. An acid comedy with social criticism. It kind of reminded me of The Lord of the Flies. I liked the plot twist at the end. I liked the script. I didn't enjoy the dinner part because it was too much for me (disgusting), but everything else was fine.
Excellent satire on wealth and the greed of the rich. The ending disappointed due to its abstact nature but for the most part, this is a funny and insightful film. Rest in peace Charibi Dean - you were taken from us far too soon.
Very good, so loving. Non-actors are better than actors at being subjects. Harris Dickinson is a star. Could just be because I'm rewatching it in preperation for it's final season at the moment but lots of the ambient backing over shots of English housing estates and strong-willed kids reminded me of Brian Eno's soundscapes on 'Top Boy'.
Favourite shot: the kids playing on the hill with the housing estate windows in the background - felt like Taiwanese New Wave framing, the camera as an observer only.
I am a sci-fi fan, not a gamer...don't care about the game story or the books.....All I saw was an excellent first epidode of a new sci-fi series. I don't think they ever intended for it to be an accurate representation of the game. I mean who would spend millions to make a series or TV show only to appeal to a limited number of hard core game fans??? This series so far only 1 episode, but I for one am loving it.
I´m a gamer and never played Halo more than 5 minutes. I dont care if it doesnt follow the source material or if he took his helmet off. This is an incredibly awesome action sci-fi show! Just enjoy it!
I was a little worried due to all the backlash I saw about the first episode. Watched it, and thought it got too much hate. Please don't cancel this.

I did not expect this show to rigidly follow the path of John Spartan shown in the Halo franchise, and was delighted with what I saw. Despite the comments by the trolls and the Halo purist's the elements are all there and a central female character is needed for a television audience, the storyline is just a slight detour in a Halo multiverse (to mix metaphor's). I thought it was a GREAT start for a television series and want to see more. Way to go Paramount!
This really surprised me. Old style silly humour which brits will be very familiar with (like the old black adder,, mobty python stuff). Great production and the time flew by for me. Great actors, funny script and a big adventure story. This was lots of fun and scratched a itch I didn't realise I had - the nostalgic craving for silly humour that isn't disgusting /all about sex.
I loved the friendships between asterix and obelix. The other characters aren't side lines though - proper development and stories of their own. Everything looks beautiful too - in France, in China and in between.
I really this adventure movie with great characters - recommend it.
Walton Goggins has played some interesting characters in the past, but The Ghoul is iconic.
I really liked The Ghoul’s and the little brother’s vault story coming to an epic shared conclusion. Lucy and Maximus had a really boring journey throughout, and never really seemed to grow as characters, Maximus is still a dumbass and Lucy is still clueless and gullible.
If you read this comment, it means you liked the series too. It ended leaving many questions in my mind. I'm glad the cowboy and the girl got together and her dad was a jerk. As always, as every good thing has an end, we have come to the end of this beautiful thing. Who will wait for the second season now? It's an excellent series, I've played and watched more or less the game. The acting, the environment, the effects, everything was good. Your efforts are like health and medicine.
This movie is already good on its own, but it becomes 10x better when you know what Patel went through to get it made.
The movie has already cemented itself as a classic of the vengeance subgenre, with echoes of Woo and Park Chan-wook, while bursting with enough originality for it to avoid feeling like a carbon copy.
It's a primal yell of a directorial debut from Dev Patel, already an underrated actor, who uses his unique experiences with religion and his own Indian heritage to bring the story of the film to life.
You can smell the blood and sweat wafting through the screen
The action scenes and fights, well, the rest is not bad, but it is not necessary to show the same memory several times. The Indian John Wick, sometimes yes, although more like the raid.
Unlike the other review I actually watched it and understood it, and enjoyed it. Very different and something new, in a good way. Look forward to more.
Edit: After watching the whole season wow, just wow,. Haven't enjoyed a show so much in a long time. Hope to see a season 2.
Definitely an interesting production. It feels like I am watching a noir film, but in a modern setting. Timeless story and personalities. Self-described addict to movies, which we see glimpses of from time to time, as if to show he imagines his life to be like one, with Bogart. The protagonist is a bit like a relict from the past. Lone gentleman in a suit, driving a vintage car, caring for the vulnerable, dealing with his own demons, longing for a mysterious woman, and who can see right through your deceit. Obvious allusions to the Golden age of Hollywood, but I also sense some inspiration by the French new-wave (inspired by the former). It also simply looks beautiful. I eagerly await new episodes.
EDIT after the finale - I love the topic of trying to understand what it means to be a human, the pensiveness and sensitivity of Sugar, the eerie quietness of every character, even the ones who are supposed to be aggressive.
7 hours of Guy Ritchie and a bunch of crazy british gangsters. What more could you want?
I get all of the undertones that the film is presenting. It almost felt too obvious at times. I get that the acting is supposed to be great, even if I thought that Emma Stone was terrible playing the "child" version of the character at the very beginning. I did enjoy some of the dark humor. But the steampunk/Wes Anderson style didn't do anything for me and never has.
Not to get into pun territory here but this was a little too "high art" for my tastes. However, about half way through I said to my girlfriend (who did find the film interesting) "ya know, the weed just hit in a way that made this movie tolerable." So there's that...
My Ratings
10 - I love it, regardless of quality
9 - Very good, might not love but very well done or might love, forgiving some issues
8 - Very enjoyable or Just OK for me but well done
7 - Good
6 - Watchable despite not liking the film/show
5 - Mid
3-4 - Not great, but got through it
1-2 - Very bad/You might be a communist if you like this garbage
This is one of the better movies I have seen in a very long time. A refreshing take on the idea of Frankenstein…. This movie confirms that the more we are developed, enlightened and engaged the more complicated, depressing and a let down life is. The trials and tribulations of Bella as she develops from infancy in front of our eyes…. An eye opener for the viewer……. A great watch…. A must watch.
Poor Things - :heart:x8
This is definitely not a movie for everyone. It was a very interesting movie and beautiful. The sets and cinematography were absolutely gorgeous, great performances and interesting character development. And the musical score was quite haunting. Perhaps the most interesting/disturbing thing in this movie is seeing The Hulk in this setting - lol.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
I want to love this movie. I want it to be successful. I never want to watch it again.
Plot: The plot has it's merits but is quickly lost on the viewer as the story progresses. It's only again mentioned in spurts and towards the end.
Visuals: Stunning. Colorful. Confusing. It's almost anachronistic. You don't quite know what timeline you are in but it doesn't matter because it, in and of itself, is fun to see.
Acting: Emma Stone's performance is top tier in this film. She essentially plays three different roles in the span of the film. Plenty of sensible chuckles throughout. As far as the performances go, I have no complaints.
Conclusion: After the film ended, and we endured nearly two hours of sex scenes, archaic surgical procedures and a pig-headed chicken... I said to myself "what in the actual F * * K did I just watch?" It was not what I hoped it would be, but it wasn't terrible. It was good, but very weird. This is one of those films where the previews were probably the best part of the film because the rest of it cannot be shown on television.
Genuinely disturbing like all Yorgos Lanthimos movies. Bizzare and weirdly unsettling. I love weird but not the creepy type that throws sex at you every ten seconds. Yes, it was mediorcely realistic, but It lost all meaning in this beautifully twisted world building. The sounds, acting, script, and sight all intertwine so well. The 2 hours and 21 mins were far too long, though. I can usually withstand it, but my interest halfway through just wanted to hide. I'm sure it was purposely done, but it doesn't work, for me at least. The acting and cinematography was probably the best part of this.
I can't help but feel this movie is for snobs who get off on "you missed the point" comments as they sit on their high horse.
I'm not saying that's how it is... I'm saying that that's how it feels like to me when I read praise of this movie.
Well enough said really... I think it's terrible. I felt like I'd have a good time with this movie if I was still 15...that's the emotional maturity this movie seems to have.
4/10.
I so wanted to love this movie. And for a while, I did. After all, there is a very worthwhile message in the movie, and Emma Stone gives the performance of a lifetime (side note: every time someone gives a performance like this, I can't help but remember that Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for playing a sassy housewife in The Blind Side, and I throw up a little in my mouth). And Willem Dafoe is, of course, fantastic. It just became a slog to get through after the midway point. It was as if Wes Anderson re-made Bride of Frankenstein. That said, it was beautiful to look at.
