A lot of reviews and people are saying you either really love it or really hate it, meanwhile it left me neutral. It's creative and random and every aspect of it is well done, yet the movie is over before you can connect with it in any way shape or form. I'm not mad about the 2h19m spent watching it. But would I recommend it to any living soul? Definitely not.
Seems surrealistic but has a explicit sense, the line of evolution and the circle of life.
Life in a nutshell.
The Tree of Life is one of the most stunning movies I've ever seen. The cinematography is something that you can't take your eyes away from, it's just that stunning. Emmanuel Lubezki is the master of cinematography, I mean he's right up there with Roger Deakins, Vittorio Storaro, and Robert Richardson. Terrence Malick direction was pure brilliant, even when sometimes he dose get a little bit carried away with some of the imagery, but all that aside, this is a beautiful film that's not going to be for everyone.
A very unconventional film. This is something most people are not going to like or have the patience for. It has no action or snappy dialogue. There are long stretches of time when no one says a thing. Director Malick actually leads us from the 1950s back to creation and through evolution. In fact we bounce from Brad Pitt to dinosaurs and then back to Brad again. Most of the time is spent with Pitt and his family but I enjoyed the early scenes of outer space and cosmic creations more. It was very impressive and awe-inspiring. But it's important to note that I am a big "2001: A Space Odyssey" fan. The ending frustrated me and will likely frustrate almost everyone who views it. I don't think I'll ever watch this again but I give it high marks for how different it is.
What a performance by VIkander and Fassbender both. Beautiful movie, yet I struggle with how to handle the.. vileness of it all.
i loved how this film just has the characters in an incessant search for a way to cheat death, through myth, religion and science, only for them to realise eternal peace can only be found once you accept nature cannot be changed and all things must die. it's such a peaceful way to deal with death, and it really makes the world around you stop while you watch. it tells you that in the end we're all just a part of something bigger and are never in control of our own lives, because life will end, no matter how much we try to fight it. that can be scary for some, but to me it just makes living less scary.
I am not a film critic, I can not write you some elaborate and well thought review like some other people can.
To me, this is a lovestory that transcends all ages, all milennia all fragments of time. Clive Mansell's soundtrack is key to the strong actiong of both Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. I absolutely love this movie. It is one of my favorites of all time and I have probably seen it more than 20 times allready. It is a very special and powerful movie.
well crafted but to slow and eventually i just didn't care about what i was watching. good effort though . But it´s another great job by Jake.
Both Adam and Anthony are same person. Anthony is the imagination of Adam.Adam is currently married to Helen but he is frustrated and due to fear of commitment ( symbolised by spider) he creates Anthony. Adam feels that he is not happy in his life.
Mary was Adams ex gf so Anthony (in imagination) stalks Mary to fulfill Adams desire.
The movie revolves around the fact that who will be in dominance.
When helen goes to college she came to knew the disorder of Adams so she asked 'How was your school' & 'I wanted you to stay'
So Anthony dies but in the last when he see the key Anthony Returns
I’m all for metaphorical films but this is just lazy. A history teacher spots himself in a film which his colleague recommends. It's all normal until he and his look-alike finally meet. I think I understand the message it's trying to say but the experience is very tedious and empty and this film ends up saying nothing. I find this film to care more about being artsy then being enjoyable. It has zero entertainment value. This film tries to accomplish classic twin story, same characters with contrasting personality, but I don't think it succeeds at that. Their behaviours feels very forced, their motivations are unreasonable and the conflict between them just doesn't seem realistic to me. The strange imagery is just another attempt to make the film more interesting, sadly it doesn't work. The characters beside the twins are pretty much lifeless, like they don't want to be there in the first place. Also I'm not a fan of the color palette and some stylistic choices used in this film. It looks like piss. The score is the only thing they really put effort into. I won't recommend this film to anyone.
Indignation is a very well crafted movie. The cinematography is some the best we've seen this year but I found the movie to really lose steam in the second act despite great performances from Logan Lerman and Sarah Gadon.
Dialogue heavy adaptation of Philip Roth's novel is perhaps more suited to the stage. The film is not without merit, but there are times when the film tests the patience with all of its moralising and speech giving.
Sometimes slowly paced but once it picks up IT DOESN'T STOP. The final two episodes were FLAWLESS. Season 2 can't come soon enough.
HITLER IS ALIVE????? WHAT!!!!
A show about hunting Nazi’s. Anything dealing with killing Nazi’s is always fun to watch...While it's good show, it's slow as shit. Paint dries faster than pacing of this show. This show would be better in 6 episode format. Maybe they hired people from Netflix to make this show. If you can't stand watching slow shows...I would highly recommend skipping this. There is about 10 minutes of actual things happening in each episode.
I am still trying to understand why so many people are complaining about this show or it's story. Like I saw in another comment here, IT IT'S FICTION, not a documentary. There is lots of facts in the show about the WWII, but also new things and ways to tell it through the caracthers. For me, it's definetly a superb show and I loved seeing Al Pacino not in a movie as usual. Most of all, THE FUCKING LAST EPISODE!!! Amazing. Can't wait for the next season.
Although, Logan's character got on my nerves in this show, he did manage to grow on me. Very shocking ending of season 1. Looking forward to season 2.
A very well written show, full of twists, and some sort of yiddish (self)irony, where nothing is taken for granted, both the development of the story, and the characters themselves, never entirely good, never entirely bad. Yet, just when the last episode was expected to end the story with openings for an inevitable second season, with the final coup de theater we fall into the grotesque.
Well ‘obviously’ that was messed up and ‘obviously’ it was entertaining and ‘obviously’ had a good plot and good cast too. I’m glad I understood the ending but still would of loved more information. At times it reminded me of the film cube.
The movie was entertaining but sadly nothing more. It raised A LOT of questions like: who is doing this? Why? What rules does it follow? Like, can you advance to the top or is everything just random? Did they even succeed in the end? Did sending up the child work? but ultimately NONE were answered and the movie ended. I know this is somewhat meant to be abstract and everything is an analogy to society or something, but that does not help. With some more answers it could have been great
If this movie is a criticism of communism, then it's one of the best social commentary movies I've watched. It's very inventive and bold but the ending is a big let down, much like communism in real life. Right after introducing the premise of the movie, I started wondering how this story might resolve while still making sense. But, in the end, it doesn't because it can't. This fact is even addressed in the movie. If you're fine with gore scenes, and you like inventive, creative stories, you should definitely give this movie a chance.
not the greatest movie. never-ending time loop. great actress. worth watching once.
If you think this movie is great, suggest you to watch a Spanish movie called Los Cronocrímenes aka Timecrimes, with only 4 actors, tells a awesome time travel story with got awards. Triangle is boring, confusing and in the end predictable and messy.
genuinely enjoyable if you go in without knowing the plot. i highly recommend it that way. even when i was ahead of the film and figured out the twist, going into it blind kept me invested even when i knew what was going on. i imagine knowing anything more about the plot than the idea of there being a loop would really take away from the experience. i do have to echo the sentiment of why tf heather is a character but other than that, i liked this a lot.
Considering the reputation this has, not really enjoying it so far (2 episodes down). Don't really care about any of the political Mars - Earth stuff, especially the stuff surrounding Shohreh's character or the characters on the ship. Really only interested in Thomas Jane's character so far. Maybe at this point in my life, I'm just not a hard sci-fi guy.
Giving this another go since I keep hearing about how good it's gotten. I think this is the third time I've watched this pilot episode and I've also read the book, but I can't make any sense of what's going on here. The attempt to set up a coherent story is a failure, with bland actors playing very uninteresting characters. Nobody seems to like each other and all the dialogue is difficult to make out.
Not the best introduction, it bounces around between the characters a lot and it's kinda annoying.
I do like the concept though, hopefully the rest of the series is more focused.
I think I'll keep this show on hold for some more days.
