Absolutely disappointing rehash of the first trilogy. Disney had a real opportunity to do something new and exciting with this ipr but resorted to rushed writing with an extremely compressed story that makes no sense and fails to make anyone care for the characters or events. Emo Kylo is an outstanding metaphor for the whole deal.
I honestly don't know why they decided to make a fourth "Expendables" movie. It is clear that none of those involved had any genuine desire to do so. That said, all the alarm sirens should have gone off when Megan Fox appeared in the trailer. At this point in her career, she really doesn't stand for quality, and she's abysmally bad in "ExpendFOURbles" as well. To make matters worse, her role isn't exactly small either.
But the biggest sin of the film is probably that not much is left of the original idea of the franchise. It was once supposed to be a retro-fest for aging action stars, but there are hardly any of those left. Even Sylvester Stallone has at most an extended cameo appearance here; otherwise, only Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham are remaining who could be put into this star category. Actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, or at least Terry Crews are no longer present. Instead, you get 50 Cent and Megan Fox—whew.
Those hoping for good action will also be disappointed. Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais are actors who could certainly offer something in this regard. However, the action is so poorly edited that they don't help either. Meanwhile, the level of violence has been raised again, but because of the lousy effects, you can't really enjoy it. Overall, "Expendables 4" is a terrible and, above all, frustrating film that I cannot recommend to anyone.
The episodes individually were actually fantastic, but the season as a whole just didn't feel right.
Beautiful movie. Also, great performances by the actors, overall.
Holy shit that was a waste of time. And i even skipped a bit
This is considered one of the greatest films ever made for a reason. I honestly don't think I can add that much to the discussion, but here goes. I start watching it and always think I'm not going to like it as much as I remember. I'm not crazy about the opening due to the pace, but I feel like it is perfect once you progress further. Getting to know the different samurai and watching them interact is just really entertaining. Each is so distinct and relatable in a different way. Frankly, the story is wonderful and I love when they did it again in the American west.
Then there is the technical side of things. This does not feel like it belongs in the 50s at all to me. The film is shot so distinct and beautifully. I really love the way the rain battle looks in the end. The dark color of the water on the ground just looks so great to me, like a chalk drawing or something. And the theme music makes me think it is something I listen to in my car all the time, even though I hadn't heard it in a few years since my last watch. It immediately becomes a classic tune to me.
So yea, this is up there for a reason, and I say you should certainly see this before you die. Just remember to set aside a good 3 1/2 hours before you start.
Spoiler or not, I don't effin' care; we got LITT UP!!
Rest in Peace Oscar Grant
So I just got back home from watching it and I have to admit that it was a total waste of time and money.
As soon as the baby was introduced and it was said that Dom needs to pick his name, I immediately told my friend that his name will be Brian, and it was.
The chase scene on the ice was so stupid that it ruined the entire movie for me. They are being chased and suddenly, out of nowhere, Hobbs's car rams a chaser's car head on from the side.
At the same scene Charlize Theron character says that the submarine is moving too slow and it won't make it before the cars, a second later the submarine goes up and somehow catches up with the cars and keeps up with them.
At the end Dom blew up a nuclear submarine, a stupid thing on it's own but then a massive fire wave from the exposition is blocked by 4 cars leaving Dom not even slightly scorched.
Yes, the movie has funny moments but comedy genre movies have more funny moment.
I have never rated a movie so low but the holes are just too stupid.
Solid film with an excellent cast
Am I the only one who thinks it was Teresa's brother?
I just saw this in theaters on a XD screen (basically IMAX) and this was one intense and wild f'n movie. Heavy emphasis on intense. I'm actually someone who loves 3D movies, rollercoasters, VR, etc. but even I was starting to feel a little queasy during some of the hectic parts of Hardcore Henry (albeit I just ate a ton of Chipotle right before watching it...). While the plot is nonexistent and the characters are just sometimes (batshit) crazy, the action is what sets this apart from any other movie that I've seen and is basically all the movie is. If you thought Mad Max: Fury Road was all action, you haven't seen nothing yet. And once the (dope) action starts, it literally does not stop for the entire 90 mins that the movie is running. You will not get any sort of break whatsoever. So be prepared. I actually wished there were a few more periods of non-action just so I could rest myself (aka not feel sick).
This is a unique viewing experience to say the least and takes the "shaky cam" style to a whole new level. The first person view was even "shakier" than I expected going in but it helps to emphasize and capture the frenetic action/destruction that occurs to all in Henry's path. HH will probably be the closest mainstream "VR-esque" experience that most people will have until later this year with the PSVR or they're lucky enough to have experienced the Occulus Rift or Vive, so it is definitely worth checking out if you are interested in that tech at all. Now if you are a person that gets sick by anything with too much movement, DO NOT WATCH this movie. You will get sick. I can guarantee that.
For those who love action movies and want to see one of the most unique cinematic presentations in a while, you're going to be in for a treat. Just don't eat any Chipotle right before seeing this :P
Wild ride from start to finish. In the beginning I thought the acting was questionable but either it got better or you just kinda figured that that's the way the characters where. It was fucking amazing, tbh.
Great movie, somewhat similar to the first season of True Detective.
Heartbreaking true story.
I wasn't aware of anything about this film, I didn't even knew that this was about a true story and what a tragic story!
Michael B. Jordan gives a great and heartfelt performance as Oscar Grant, a twenty two year old who was murdered in Fruitvale Station on his way home after New Years Eve celebrations. Oscar was a troubled young man that was trying to put his life together, he was a devoted father who loved his girlfriend and family. He wasn't counting on the fact that his night was going to end up the way it did. Devastating.
Interesting that without knowing, I see this film on the day that makes five years that this young man passed away.
R.I.P. Oscar Grant
While I walked in the theater I expected a good movie. Because I liked the concept of the story as it was set-up in the trailer. But mostly because I 'trusted' Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman to pick a good movie to play in. While I walked out the theater I had different thoughts unfortunately. The film was disappointing to me and I will try to explain why. It wasn't the acting and 'world building' but I disliked the directing, screenplay and filming.
First of the directing and filming, all of the action scenes where flooded with shaky cam. This was handled very badly in my opinion. I couldn't figure out what was happening most of the time. Due to the shaky cam, number of cuts, close-ups and the peace of all that. That was the main reason why I disliked 'Safe House', which is also made by Daniel Espinosa. It almost felt like he was trying the make the filming and directing 'not perfectly on purpose' to make it 'real' but it didn't worked out at all! It all felt kinda clumsy and there were way to many meaningless shots overall. There were some exceptions, some shots of the cities and area's they visited where beautifully. They really landed the rough and dark tone that they successfully tried the show. Although they over did it sometimes.
Then the screenplay or script, which is based on a 'best selling novel', again! First of you get a nice back story of Tom Hardy's main character, which felt real to me. All of the other characters felt a bit empty, like they were there to fill a place that was written for them. That made it almost impossible for my to understand the characters and the decisions they make. I also missed the whole balance in the story. The first part was way to long ( set-up ), the middle was rush ( plot kicks in ) and the final party ( ending ) was also rushed and kinda unbelievable. I think because of this I wasn't sucked in to the story. The second and third party felt way to easy and straight forward. Like solving a child murder case which is spread over thousand of miles is easy. I think the story could be told in a better and more interesting way.
Overall I was disappointed by Child 44. The dark Russia after WWII was displayed intense but the story lagged suspension and balance. The action scenes sucked even more than the conversations because of the directing and filming methods they just. Tom Hardy did is part good but not brilliant and unfortunately Gary Oldman's characters was barely in it. I give Child 44 an 5 aka 'Meh'! Thanks for reading!
The director and the producer should be arrested. In order to shoot the film, they destroyed part of the monument that is Unesco's patrimony.
They broke ancient stones, cut trees without permission to make fires with twenty meters ...
It was a total disrespect, destroy world heritage just for the purpose of making money ....
I recommend everyone, do a search on Google or translate Portuguese news on the subject.
Loved it. Beautiful shots of the American prairie and its animals. The story is slow at times, but there are so many great scenes that it's worth it. The story is done many times (pocahontas and avatar come to mind), but this is an excellent effort, where I genuinely hated the army guys and got really intrigued by the Indian way of life. Of course there should've been more nuances (not every Indian should be a good guy, not every American should be violence-obsessed), and the movie should've been shorter, but overall it's a great movie, with many many great shots!
Boy what a creepy movie. Don't wanna spoil anything but there is more to this movie than just a tickle ring. This was laugh out loud sometimes but awkward laughs. First time at the Sundance Cinemas, what a great theater. Nice cool AC, ample armrests and cup holders, fancy snackbar and only 21+!! Loved it. Great pick of indie films too.
A Hologram for the King is about the businessman Alan Clay, who leaves for Saudi Arabia to pitch a new idea with his team, in order to earn enough money to pay for his daughter’s college. On his journey in Saudi Arabia Alan meets a lot of interesting people and get tested on his patience multiple times.
So, do you ever watch a movie and you keep trying to find your opinion about it but you just don’t know? Well, that’s what I’m feeling right now. The acting in the movie was pretty good and some parts were rather funny. I just don’t know how to feel about the storyline I guess. It’s a bummer really because otherwise this would have been a pretty great movie!
It was interesting to see the difference between the Arabian and American culture. There is obviously quite a big difference. So it was fun to see how they handled it.
I really enjoyed Alexander Black his character Yousef.
:-)
It was a very brutal film. But I must say, it was one of the best twist endings.
This was sooo bad I can't believe I watched it to the end. Skip it - you won't regret the time you've now saved to wash the car.
This movie was actually a suprise for me, because I would have expected it to be much worse than it turned out to be. However I have to say first, that I do not know the original series this movie is (hardly?) based on, so I will not be able to compare.
However, I was entertained. The story is all right it has some interesting moments, it is not in its entirety forseeable and besides infantil jokes about sex, male close and a rather idiotic depicted Jon Baker (played by Dax Shepard), it even has some funny inovative quotes that I enjoyed.
Also I think Michael Peña is a sympathetic actor, and so I liked his role as "Punch", he has a certain kind of smartness about himself and they added it to his role - that was interesting, because judging just by the trailer both appear to be idiots and you'd expect something horrible - oh and while I am mentioning the trailers - I loved that actually hardly joke from the trailer actually ended up in the movie - therefore there are no spoilers a number of scenes that you thought you knew actually turned out different.
But besides that, the story is rather mediocre, the characters stay shallow, 80% of the jokes aren't really funny, and a lot of story lines where forseeable. Also it often reminded me of a bad immitaiton of the Bad Boys movies - and compared to those this is a cruel joke.
So this movie is neither entirely good, nor entirely bad. And therefore after long consideration I settled with the exact middle. There are far worse movies, but there are also better. If they show it on TV and nothing else is on, you wouldn't go wrong with this, but whenever you can do something better, you'd better do that ;)
Rarely is a documentary so delightfully unpredictable and just straight up bizarre.
Great movie, deeply enjoyed by me, strongly recommend it. But even though it's an awesome fucking movie, it's nowhere as good as any of Waititi's other movies.
Billy Mitchell is the type of guy, that thinks he is a God for something stupid like having a good score at a videogame. Love Steve Wiebe, the one that comes from humility and deserves to win. It happens in all the games.
Billy Mitchell is a grade-A d-bag, but I found Brian Kuh to be even worse.
Billy Mitchell at least got the world record legitimately back in the day, and Kuh could never measure up to him or to Steve Wiebe, so he had to settle for being Mitchell's sycophantic bitch.
Ridiculous plotting, laughable dialogue, schol play acting. A real dud.
Pronopung (Shavenballs) starts out as your usual movie about sex and getting laid, lots of girls and tits and booze and parties.you have two womanizers Karl and Leo who meet Christian, the boy who fucked only once before meeting these two. and of course, Karl and Leo are going to teach him to become a womanizer himself..
then BAM! halfway the movie, an unexpected twist, it turns out this isn't your typical getting-laid movie, this is no American Pie or Road Trip, it's much more different... the movie suddenly slides into a dark side, where we see the characters in another shade, a much darker shade.
I always say that when it comes to sex in movies or movies about sex, you can't do any better than scandinavian movies. and Pornopung is a well-made movie, even if it seems like just another movie about sex and getting laid..
The cinematography was really good, and the directing was decent. the soundtrack wasn't half bad, lots of techno/house songs as you would expect, some people find this annoying, but it can be overlooked.
The ending was good, not totally happy ending and not a sad one either, a balanced one really.
All in all, this is a fun movie, but a well made one, if you're into that, this movie is a good choice.
