Best Snyder movie so far. Sadly it is deeply misunderstood. Movie is way more deeper and complex than it looks like on first glance.
People don't realize Sweet Pea is the protagonist, Babydoll is a figment of Sweet Pea’s imagination. Babydoll does not exist. Babydoll's story is Sweet Pea’s story. Sweet Pea was sexually abused, killed her sister and is in psychiatric hospital in therapy. Babydoll is Sweet Pea's avatar. Way of dealing with grief, with guilt, and way to manage her current situation and overcome it. Babydoll is also Sweet Pea's guardian angel.
Sweet Pea is the only fully rounded character, other girls represent aspects of her psyche. Babydoll represents strength and courage, Amber loyalty, Blondie fear, and Rocket represents guilt. In the third level reality her psyche fights for the things to get her free from her current state. Second guardian angel (the Wise Man) guides her through. To fully recover she needs to get over her guilt (Rocket dies as a symbol), also other girls represent things which she needs to leave behind to fully recover .
Babydoll is one of those things. She is the fifth thing (“The fifth is a mystery. It is the reason. It is the goal. It will be a deep sacrifice and a perfect victory.”). Lobotomy of Babydoll represents Sweet Pea’s mind of taking control. Sweet Pea needs to sacrifice Babydoll to be “cured”. Escape at the end is a symbol of that process of being cured. That’s why the driver is the Wise Man, he guides her further.
Sucker Punch is Sweet Pea’s journey from “madness” to “sanity”. Movie is philosophical / psychological investigation wrapped in a special effects action-fantasy. As the movie changes realities (mostly in the third reality), Snyder uses more fetishized image of the girls. He uses clichés and cluttered iconography (nazi zombies, sexy schoolgirls). It is a way to detached and disconnected characters from second reality. Second reality, the brothel, is the “main” reality. In which everything happens.
Why are you rating movies that haven't even been made yet?
I don't care what people say... I liked this movie! Sure some bits where predictable but I laughed most of the movie! Just like Baywatch... Don't think to much and just enjoy the movie
Darcy is so great. Kat Dennings should've had even more screentime in this.
I wanted to love this so much, but it just felt... Empty. The characters didn't connect at all and the Fantastic Beasts themselves felt like an afterthought to the franchise they're actually trying to build.
Overall a watchable movie with some charming moments but damaged by a muddy story and atrocious pacing. I expected more from the HP universe.
I've liked it much more than expected from ratings! Funnier than most Adam's stuff, and Tyrion and Ned were great.
Movie isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Treat it like an origin story movie that sets the scene for a larger universe...
Yes, first hour is pretty slow and at times the dialogue is clunky but you can still find enjoyment out of the film.
It's an amazing movie provided you know what you're going in for. There'll always be moody critics who will find faults.
This movie is exactly what it's trailer states. A light hearted murder mystery with comedy in between.
Jennifer Aniston was lovely as always.
I especially love the ending to it
Spoiler
They end up on the orient express.
What a load of crap. The acting was dreadful. Give this a wide berth if possible. Story line was rubbish too. Total thumbs down for me.
Well, I compleatly enjoyed the movie. I like the music in the movie, it fits in perfectly. The screenplay was nice and acting was good, but the ending for me felt rushed. It feels like they could have made it better, but I still liked it! But I don't know how the book is, so can't say how different the book and the movie is. Maybe I should read the book!
And what is it with movies and trailers lately. In the trailer when Vee goes to the cop car, the police officer know her name and seems to be "part of the game". But it was not like that in the movie. And when i first saw the trailer, that part made the movie seem "better?". But well, I guess the trailers now days lie about the movies ;) cough cough suicide squad
This is rather good but I'm a sucker for alien movies especially when there's a good "they're already here and messing with us" conspiracy behind it.
One of the most frustratingly bad horror movies I've ever seen. The characters were all idiots. They deserved it.
Why do film studios have to spell stuff out for us , we are not idiots. The fact that we knew Adaline never aged from the start was a bad move. The studio should have kept us guessing...make the audience work. Why was Adaline on the Run?, Why did she have to keep changing identities?. The big reveal should have been when Adaline met Ellis' father. A great film but could have been so much better. As soon as this movie hits blu ray. I am going to make my own edit.
Great soundtrack, and as alejandro_mhr says, it doesn't take itself too seriously. I enjoyed every moment of it. It was just the senseless action-filled movie I was looking for.
The performance of Dan Stevens noted itself for me, and I'll be watching him further! Great acting, great pushing of limits.
People have to realize what they're about to watch before they go into it. The actors are playing exaggerated versions of themselves. It's not meant to be Academy Award winning gold. It's supposed to be ridiculous fun. And it is. I mean, there's a giant ceramic penis. What do you expect? I laughed so much. You just can't take a movie like this seriously. It's purely for stupid laughs.
Ouch, that average rating! I'm not going to lie though, I genuinely had a fun time watching 'Madame Web'... perhaps I should be keeping that fact quiet?
I don't know what to say, I found it to be suitably entertaining. I'm sure there are plot holes aplenty (I noticed a few) and it probably makes zero sense/isn't a good adaptation compared to its source material or whatever but honesty... I don't care, it gave me enough enjoyment that I wasn't questioning anything about what I was watching.
The cast are probably the key factors as to why I did enjoy this. I previously knew of Dakota Johnson but hadn't actually seen her in anything properly, I found her performance to be more than noteworthy and she spearheads the film strongly. The trio of Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O'Connor are positives too.
Tahar Rahim's antagonist, meanwhile, is poorly written and portrayed, though I personally thought the actor did a good job. I have no complaints with anyone who appears onscreen to be honest. Away from them, the pacing and score are also standouts.
In my recollection of viewing this, I truthfully haven't got any issues with it. If it wasn't for the slight bad murmurs that I did hear about pre-watch (though not much of it as I avoid as much as I can with movies) and the reaction on sites like this post-watch, I'd not be questioning my thoughts about this whatsoever.
As I always say, to each their own. For me, gimme a sequel (as long as the cast remain, mind). Not even sorry.
Wow i didn't see that coming, usually most dramatic movies end up being predictable halfway through but they did a great job with this. Yeah i teared up, am not made of stones
He said your face tattoos make you look like someone tried to paint a worn out dildo with a Sharpie bahahaha
Genuinely funny, with some great movie references hidden within, and a script that is sharper than the usual generic animated fare. More like this please Netflix.
I still don't get it why people have not mentioned it as an absolute garbage!
Nasim Pedrad and Lamorne Morris back together for this movie; Yes, I have to watch it. Fun movie, some good laughs, solid plot and likable characters. I loved Nasim and Lamorne in New Girl and this movie proved once again that when two actors have good chemistry a movie just works. Truly enjoyable movie for a night in.
This movie was honestly better than expected. It had a strong storyline, believable characters, and some decent suspense thrown in. (Which is a reminder that you don't need gore to have a decent Halloween horror story.)
The only thing that bothered me was the fact that when she finally named the girl, she named her Olympia, rather than Cinderella/Ella
Okay action. Terrible dialogue and meh acting
Enjoyed more than i expected..Had some good plot twists 7.5/10
If Tarantino and Edgar Wright had a baby... it would have been born at the El Royale.
I agree with the other comments that the story is pretty flat, and I really would have liked to have seen more of the actual perfect dates, but the characters were charming, the touching moments relatable (if sometimes cheesy), and most importantly, the jokes were hilarious.
The draw for me to this show was Dwayne Johnson (son of Nova Scotia born Rocky Johnson from Amherst) and Karen Gillian. I'd alway thought I'd enjoy The Rock but was never drawn to his movie choices, and Karen Gillian has been crushing it ever since her DOCTOR WHO days. This movie was a blast! Situationally funny, challenging social mores, drawing life affirming conclusions, big adventure, great comedic timing and talent. It was a hoot and I'll probably watch it again when it is released to DVD. I give it an 8 (great) out of 10. [Young Adult, Action, Adventure, Comedy].
Parents of the year right here.
