An incredibly wholesome Anime about life, loss, and being kind. A worthwhile show.

Edit: The third season started slow but wow was it incredible. It really made for a phenomenal story and a beautifully orchestrated closure.

Steins;Gate

There are so many flaws in this series if you look at each episode closely. There are plot-holes, things that don't quite make sense, and things that just seem strange. But then you take a look back at the series and the way it weaves and turns like a crazy ball of string, you realize how masterfully done the story was. It felt like a crazy, disordered story because that's symbolic of the "weebly wobbly, timey wimey stuff". But despite all the timeline shenanigans, I followed the story without issue.

The first 10 episodes start very linearly and get you setup. Then I hope you were paying attention, because things start to get crazy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I'd recommend it to pretty much everyone. This show has like 8 genres and it does a great job with each one of them.

This was an adorable, funny and witty Anime that was so worth the watch. The dialogue and hilarity of the situations presented truly drives this Anime to rise to the top.

Great Pretender

Wow this Anime took me by surprise! To be honest, it reminded a lot of an American show called Leverage. That series was what first made me love the tricks and twists that a good show about con artistry and grifting is really about. The first season was fantastic, light-hearted and hilarious right when it needed to be.

But right when I thought I had the show figured out, season 2 changed things up. Suddenly there were some deep and dramatic themes, the ideas of learning from your history and moving on from traumatic life experiences. There was so much behind each character's motivation, and all along, the viewer needs to decipher truth from fiction!

Despite the Netflix tag attached, this has easily become one of my favorites. I will say that it feels slightly less like the Anime you might be used to, but personally I think that is less because of the Netflix puppetry, and more because this show is truly designed for an international audience.

Amazing show, I would highly recommend it.

Clannad

This Anime is so beautiful and emotional, sad and happy, dark and bright. A good romance Anime can replicate similar feelings to the first season of Clannad. A boy and a girl meet, they slowly fall in love, and by the last episode, they admit their feelings. But the second season of Clannad is what all the fans always ask for: The "after story."

And I can't imagine a better after story than this one. I openly admit I cried in far more episodes than any other Anime. Both out of sadness and happiness. Because that's what makes this Anime so amazing. It is full of ups and downs and has themes of growing up, life, the changing world, and more.

If you are looking to take something out of this Anime, treasure the small things in life, but above all, treasure the gift of life, friendship, and family. There are rarely any do-overs and you only get one. And for the people who do treasure it, their hopes and dreams will lift them up.

Just beautiful. 10/10

My Hero Academia

Glad that this Anime is still going strong. Such a fun setting with all the creative superpowers and they keep smoothing out each plot arc nicely.

ERASED

Incredibly well done Anime. The characters were well fleshed out and interesting and despite having a fairly simple twist on the world, it makes for a really cool story. For seasoned detective show watcher's, it may be too easy to figure out "who's who." But I still found that I enjoyed it just as much even if I held the correct suspicions well before the reveal. The story was well worth my time and I found myself quite attached to the characters.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

This felt like a really solid Isekai Anime! There was quite a bit of the standard pervy-tropes, but the scenes in this one felt more comical than some of the others I've seen that dove headfirst into Harem-land. (Although I am slightly concerned for the fact that there are clear romances between children here. The only defense I can think of is that age seems to be very different from appearances and that age/mental maturity isn't standard either.)

The fantasy world building here is quite fantastic and the characters you meet have distinct personalities and stories to them. The animation quality is decent enough, and the music is thematic. Overall, I'm excited to see where this one goes.

Haikyu!!

This is quite possibly the best sports Anime you may find out there! The action, the ups and downs, it all feels so good to watch. I can easily lose track of the hours watching this show. Some of the deeper themes can be a tad repetitive or shallow, but they do make some strong arguments and explain the complex emotions of the players as if it were nothing. Great Anime!

This Anime is just like watching a beautiful poem unfold and progress. Reminds me a great deal of the famous works of Miyazaki.

This was a childhood favorite of mine. Still pretty good to rewatch as well. It's kind of like a more tame version of S.A.O.

The Mandalorian

What really makes this story unique is the style of direction that it takes. The story is written like that of an old western film, a genre of television that is rather iconic in American culture, but is rather difficult to replicate well. Somehow, the Mandalorian does an incredible job of replicating the feelings and action of old western films, all while including the various races and rich lore of the Star Wars universe. Truly a remarkable amount of effort went into producing this series!

PLUTO

The source material for this must’ve been incredible. The plot, the allegory, the characters, and everything about the story was so perfectly orchestrated. Even when I could predict certain plot twists, it still felt as if the release was good. I started to truly empathize with the characters and the aftershock of each death or character development in the series felt truly important. Gesicht was incredible throughout, and I really loved Epsilon’s character too, although I would’ve loved more development for his character.

The animation and music here just tied the whole package together. There was a lot of slow burn and tension building throughout the series.

Lycoris Recoil

This is a show that does an amazing job putting together incredibly likeable and complex characters, beautiful artistry with awesome action scenes, and a pretty cool plot line; all together in one cute show! Trust me when I say, Chisato is such a beautiful and wholesome character that it will be worth it for her alone.

Made in Abyss

I was almost off-put from the series due to the overly cutesy animation at the start, but boy was I wrong with how the series would go. Made in Abyss starts off like it should be a rather family friendly spelunking adventure, but slowly descends into madness and nightmares. The Anime twisted the concepts of humanity and nature in a truly dark fashion, while remaining endlessly enticing to the viewer. Keep in mind as you descend into this Anime, your journey is made with no return.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

This was far better than I had expected going into it. The show has you on the edge of your seat almost the entire way through til it’s conclusion. Of which I think it’s very important to note, that this series very much concludes. There will not be a true “sequel” other than the actually Cyberpunk game itself. This show was short and sweet; although the series was anything but sweet. Any bits of happy and touching moments were like a beautiful stained glass mirror, right before being shattered by the harsh realities of night city.

This show was not as polished as Netflix’s hit Anime based on League of Legends (Arcane), but the action and climax was just as intense. The only thing lacking in the show, was a bit more character development, and variety of how the development was portrayed. The series fell into a habit of only adding more flavor to the characters through backstories which made characters feel as if they were simply made of “back then”, a big event happens, and then “now” as opposed to a flowing timeline of experiences.

All things considered, a very good experience, short as it was.

If I had reviewed this series after just the first season, I would have said its quirky and mediocre. Towards the last couple episodes of Season 1 I had finally had some more enjoyable moments. From there, however, Season 2 only let the series get better and makes me excited for Season 3! This series is simply just fun to watch.

Edit: After watching season 3, it really seals the deal. This is one of the most entertaining and well orchestrated rom-com Animes I've had the pleasure of watching.

The Eminence in Shadow

Now this is the right way to blend the Chunibyoo genre into a real engaging story. I challenge the viewer to try and decide reality from fiction. But after you decide, think about which part you enjoyed more!

Komi Can't Communicate

This is such a funny and wholesome Anime that is really a treat to watch. Almost all of the characters are entertaining to watch and I love the thought that went into each characters development and personality. Interestingly, the secondary character in the show, Tadano, is the one with the most straightforward personality. Which is rather strange considering every person in the school should have been admitted because of some strange quirk. So I'll be very intrigued to see if the series finally explains and develops Tadano in the third season. Overall, a really high quality Anime that hits all the tenets of Animation, Music, and Characters.

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

This was actually a spectacular anime! It was crazy fun to watch and each episode was pretty much watch at your own pace. If you love Shoujo anime, then maybe you will watch this and reconsider that. It pokes all sorts of fun at the genre as a whole following every over-used Shoujo plot line and then bursting the bubble. It was also really cool to take a quick peek at some manga creation. This was just a really well done rom-com and I wish there were more than 12 episodes.

Charlotte

I'm going to preface this by saying I am absolutely in love with 90% of Key's visual novel adaptations. Charlotte is one of the most interesting Anime's I've seen in a while. My biggest complaint is that character development happens at a rapid pace to focus on the story acceleration (which has proven common among Key Animes). The end result is that a character can go from 0-100 over the course of an episode or from sociopath to Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Charlotte has a similar setting to My Hero Academia, but the feel of the Anime couldn't be more different. There is so much more character in this Anime which makes it blur the line between a slice of life and an action Anime. This story got so much deeper and stronger as it progressed while My Hero Academia just touts the same theme over and over again, only keeping viewers around for the action.

Overall, I'd greatly recommend this Anime. It was short and could've been much more, but it was still very strong in its own right.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

First off, I will say tis show was truly a pleasure to watch. ufotable has a remarkably good track record for really outstanding animation. However, I have one question for you:

If Wisteria wards off demons and can kill them, and this is known by literally every demon slayer (as it is a part of their initiation ritual), then why doesn't literally everyone keep some on their person?

So my point is, yes it's good to watch and I'd recommend it highly, but don't think too carefully about everything as you'll find inconsistencies and unexplained details. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Nezuko in action with Season 2!

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

This was an absolutely superb Anime. Like really. The writing of the story is of course, quite entertaining. The action scenes were frequent and engaging, plenty of well done blood, gore and violence. Rin makes for a fantastic Tsundere splash of romance. The animation and music choices were both complimentary and artistically perfect. And this was my first introduction into the Fate series, all the concepts were introduced in good time with only a few somewhat unexplained instances. There was a decent amount of "we'll explain it after it happens" so don't take any immediate confusion to heart. I look forward to seeing what else the Anime adaptations of the Fate series has to offer.

Oh yeah, watch the Prologue episode too, it was quite good.

Kanon

This show definitely has some of the very same elements that made Clannad so truly outstanding.

For one reason or another, I had a much harder time getting into this show. But once I got about halfway through the series, I couldn’t stop watching. It really pulled on your heartstrings towards the end, but it was worth it.

One of the largest flaws I found with this series, was that there was literally only one male character that had any emotional value. And that was of course the main character, Yuichi. And as a result, the stories of every girl revolves around a single guy, but this series is not intended as a harem.

Personally, I think this Anime is underrated; it has a very heartfelt story to it.

Friends

This show is pretty much the essential American sitcom. Its incredibly funny but has some really meaningful moments too. I can't say I always liked every character, but I came to realize that part of the point is to be realistic and you can't like everyone the entire time. The real thing preventing this show from being a true 10 is the obscene number of clip episodes (episodes consisting of over 90% old episode clips). If it weren't for those annoying reuses of old clips, I would happily say this is probably the best sitcom to have graced the American television. I've probably learned more about how to approach friendship and life from this show than anyone else, now I just need to get off the TV and get out there .

Violet Evergarden

The Anime is incredibly scenic with beautiful animation and a soundtrack that matches its visual splendor.

I was pretty immediately hooked, the episodes felt so detailed and intricate. There was plenty of mystery and intrigue throughout. The flow of the story was somewhat jagged at times but the overarching plot was almost like a vapor that haunts each episode. I really loved treating the war as the antagonist, each episode you could feel it’s haunting echoes. The death of character you just met felt real and painful because you know there are thousands more who died the same way.

I wish that the series delved a little further into the backgrounds and stories of each other character. I think that exploring the backgrounds of the other auto-memory dolls would greatly expand the depth of the story and add to further character development.

Overall, I really loved the way this series was presented. It really is a work of art.

My Dress-Up Darling

One of the best Slice of Life Anime I’ve seen in awhile. The build up of friendship and worldly experiences between the two main characters was perfect. Not to mention the witty dialogue was excellent through most of the season. The emphasis on art and animation (with a little Hina doll history too) was wonderfully represented.

Star Wars: Andor

After making it through a rather slow and uninteresting start, the prison arc and the closing episode really made for a solid entry into the Star Wars universe. However, it wasn’t the best it could’ve been. I wasn’t a huge fan of the speed in which the first arc was handled, there was a bit too much setup without defining the characters importance or details in a succinct way. There were also a bunch of random episodes that were very much filler, without many events at all with just barely enough action to pass as an episode at all. In the end, the slow start and filler held down what could’ve been outstanding.

Cross Game

The graphics for this Anime are typical of a 2000s Anime, but the story and the character development are really where this Anime takes the cake. I’ve always been a sucker for Tsundere character development, and Aoba Tsukishima has just reached one of the top spots. I couldn’t imagine a better story arc with it’s complex relationships and progression over time. Man this Anime really takes you for a ride. It’s probably less of a Sports Anime, and more along the lines of RomCom / Slice of Life — but without the cheesy Shoujo romance stuff. Highly recommended.
