6.8/10. Look, the intervention stuff is gold, and the exact kind of intricate, non-linear storytelling and comedy that we've come to expect from this show. From the stories of the various bits of damage to the house, to the interconnected reasons for all of the interventions, it's a lot of fun and fits together nicely.
But the emotional part is very dumb and out of character -- not so much everybody feeling concerned about moving onto a big step in their life, but everyone declaring that nothing will change and that nobody's moving, which of course lasts about two minutes. Eighty-year-old Barney as the catalyst for it is pretty weak too. It's a strange way to dramatize the dilemma for the gang, and makes our heroes feel more like cartoon characters than real people, even for a sitcom.
I agree with everyone on the comments, all the characters are so great, it's just hard to pick one to root for. But I'm really looking forward to more action with Jean and Jacob, I hope they'll manage to bond enough before the baby comes, although I have a hunch they'll agree eventually that it's better to co-parent separately. This series is groundbreaking I believe, It's written so well and explore such important issues in such nonchalant way. Like the all-vulvas-are-beautiful thing, I'm a pretty mature woman, I've even pushed one stubborn daughter out of mine, and never thought of that, and that's actually important!
I believe it really provides good education on many matters, without falling down the over-SJW rabbit hole.
RIP Jonathan. Who wrote this scene?? I wasn't expecting that to happen! lol
why didn't he say it back!! im really starting to like ruby
My heart shattered for Ruby :'(
You know what…. Fuck maeve…… I want ruby to be happy and with Otis ….. it’s probably not gonna happen tho
How did Ruby go from being a shallow mean b... to being someone who deserves better? Now THAT'S character development.
And Blur closing the episode. Ugh. chef kiss
The double date was so fun. It started off super awkward, but Adam unexpectedly giving Otis great advice regarding Ola and finding common ground with Ruby over the Kardashians of all things was really heartwarming to watch.
The headmistress offering to help fund Maeve's trip to America has earned her a tiny bit of good will. Maeve deserves so much after all that she's been through. The show really wants me to get on the Erin forgiveness train, but it's not happening. The way she's treated Maeve is too awful to get past IMO. You don't owe people second chances just because you're related to them.
The last scene was heartbreaking. It must've been so hard for Ruby to open up to Otis and let him see past the facade and when he didn't say I love you back you could see her heart shatter. I know he shouldn't say it if he's not sure or not ready, but still, I felt so bad for her.
7.5/10. Solidly enjoyable episode. Robin's story was kind of silly, but there was something to it. Similarly, Barney's waiting for a fist bump was the kind of goofy comic relief stuff you'd expect him to pull.
The meat of it was solid as well. The NJ vs. NY debate felt true to New Yorker's feelings about the neighbors across the river, and as someone from out of town who'd moved there, I felt Marshall's sentiments as a transplant. That was one of the nice things about the argument -- there were several different types of opinions represented. Lily the lifelong New Yorker, Marshall the reluctant transplant, Ted the zealous convert, and Stella the dye-in-the-wool Jersey girl. The cinch of the episode being Ted bonding with Stella's daughter is a nice note to go out on.
Amazing episode! Mrs Hudson is awesome :D I love how she knows Sherlock so well that she's the one that gives the tip about where to find the unsolved cases.
I can't wait to find out more about the sister
This was so mind blowing, trippy and fantastic, Sherlock took us to a ride with him and you could feel his highs and his lows, amazing! Did Benedict ever won an emmy for this?! Cause he deserves!
And like I said last episode, Ms Hudson the most interesting character!
And even tho I hate John Watson right now, his scenes with Mary were so heart wrenching, but still I don’t forgive him, and that’s what happens when you cheat on your wife! Your mistress ends up being
Sherlock’s evil sister!
I. JUST. CAN'T. JUST WATCH IT!
She taught me to be the man she already thought I was.
Who she thought I was, is the man who I want to be.
That's the Sherlock I was expecting!
That ending was just jaw dropping CRAAAZY! I'd love to be able to fast forward to next week to see how this is going to end.
"Oh, come on! You can't blackmail anyone anymore."
what happened to this show? :(
Okay but in 6x05 it was revealed that Nine-Drink Amy speaks French and in this episode she apparently thinks she's a genius instead? Someone clearly wasn't paying attention to the Santiago Drunkenness Scale.
Also, the gag with O'Sullivan threatening to out Holt and Rosa only to be told that they're already out made me laugh so hard. For some reason that was the funniest joke ever.
Craig Robinson was always the best guest star on this show. Too bad they really bungled his last outing here. He "went straight" last time, they should've kept it that way and had him inform on some old accomplice or something, instead of being a fugitive.
This has a very good episode thumbnail, though.
even though the story felt kind of forced, this is the best episode so far! going to miss pb&j. loving the car jamming session, it gave me a strong lonely island vibe
I’m glad Isaac came clean, but at the same time love that Maeve doesn’t just let it slide either.
But oh dear. That head teacher seemed fun. Until she didn’t. What the f is her beef with Otis’ mom though. That just seems petty.
I really liked how they managed Isaac's "confession": multi-layered characters who may act shitty in the heat of the moment, but not for its own sake or - worse - just for complicating the plot and getting it one, are some of the best in creating a believable and complex framework for the story (even and especially if they're secondary ones).
Same - and even more - goes for Adam and his development.
Even if Otis and Maeve are THE couple, I kind of like the relationship with Ruby evolving and not being just a filler.
I'm glad Isaac came clean early in the season. Maeve was never going to be okay with that he did, so best to be done with it now.
And I'm getting strong Delores Umbridge vibes from the new headmistress. I'm guessing there will eventually be a student revolt and Groff will somehow get his job back, possible with less fervor than before?
Well, looks like this show subverted my expectations yet again. I was sure the Isaac thing was gonna be dragged out till the last possible moment. I'm pleasantly surprised.
In other news, Maeve's mom is still the worst, the headmistress has made the fastest change from hero to villain I've ever seen, Maeve and Aimee's friendship is everything to me, Adam's character development is great (I love that he's finding ways to change his harmful patterns of behavior, we stan) and Otis and Ruby might just be the first time I actually ship the couple that's in the way of another couple I'm rooting for.
Great, great start of the season.
There's quite no other series that treats sex in such a healthy and positive way, without hypocrisy - and that small throwback scene of Otis and Maeve talking it through for Dex (and the King) gives an idea of how fewer problems there would be if we were taught that way.
BTW, what about that random 1917 running-and-falling reference!
Lilly: But you're in love? That's so sweet.
Barney: It's not sweet! it's like a disease!
Honestly, this show can just leave for 3 whole years ... and I'm still waiting on the edge of my seat for it to return. And it's so worth it, every single time.
