The Beekeeper

Well what would you expect from a film like this? It is just fun from beginning to end. Statham goes full Jason Statham in enacting revenge on scammers who drive his elderly friend into suicide, while trying to evade that friend's FBI daughter and her comrades. It's nonsense, but brilliant nonsense. You don't watch these films expecting hard-hitting drama and Oscar-winning performances, you watch for the fight sequences, the guns, the witty lines and to escape mundanity for a couple of hours.

Wifelike

This had so much potential but was let down by the poor acting and a twist so obvious it's signposted! Not sure. Why. Everyone. Had. To whisper. Their Lines. Like this?

Spend the 1hr 46min watching something else.

By Grabthar's Hammer, what a movie! One of the best films of the last 30 years and still holds up today. The parody element is spot on without being overindulgent and every joke hits perfectly. If you've not seen this film already, then remedy that immediately!

OK, what the hell have i just watched? And why did I see it through to the end? And how did Annie not die, given what happens to everyone else? At one point I was rooting for Angela to kill her!. Such a waste of a potentially good premise.

Stowaway

An average peril-in-space movie. While the four actors do well to carry the film, through its two hours it is let down by a weak ending that can be seen coming from a few thousand miles off!

The Boys

One of the best graphic novel adaptations on TV.

Thirteen Lives

Absolutely phenomenal film that, with the help of an amazing Sound Production, really gives you a glimpse as to what it was like for the divers attempting to rescue the team and coach. You are put into their wetsuits and feel every bang of the head, hear every laboured breath, feel every tension that they go through. A simply excellent movie.

The Resort

Can't believe I managed to sit through this. The premise was pretty standard "let's go and visit a haunted place" fare, but aside from Lex, there's no depth to the characters so you don't really give a crap about them. Sam is just annoying, Bree is bland and Chris just looks out of place. It also has one of the worst endings I've seen in a movie. Having built a story around the plot it feels like it just gives up and there is no explanation as to why it ends as it does. Thankfully it's only 75 minutes long, although I'm not getting that back any time soon! Steer clear.

Blacklight

Typical Liam Neeson film. He has a special skill, realises he's playing on the wrong team, attempts to rectify that. 6/10

Vanquish

If it had had a bigger budget and better supporting actors then this might have been a half-decent movie. As it is, it's badly paced, flits about too much in the story, and suffers from too many moody, artsy flashback memory scenes.

Great series. Funny, poignant and a great cast of characters.

Not a bad film, but not a great one either. The premise is pretty good but overall the film lacked a bit of depth and the ending was very clearly signposted!

The Core

This is such a bad movie. The only way to enjoy this one is to suspend all belief in science and have a lobotomy before watching. Who do I need to speak to in order to get a refund on the two hours I just spent watching it?

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Not just one of the best animated movies of the last few years but the best Spidey film ever. A brilliantly visual style and great story. A must-watch for any animation or comic book fan.

I can see why this movie is one that regularyl appears on must watch lists, but this was a tough watch. I've tried to watch it a couple of times previously but gave up. Only making it through this time to complete #MovieChallenge.

The Ghosts of Oxford Street

I watched this when it was originally shown on Channel 4 back in 1991. I loved the way that Malcolm McLaren delivers his story of the history of Oxford Street in his own inimitable style. The selection of songs and the stars who perform them is excellent, with the standout being Sinéad O'Connor's version of Silent Night. I own the soundtrack and play it every year around Christmas, and in the last decade or so this TV movie has become part of my Christmas tradition and I rewatch it every year. One or two of the songs may not be to everyone's tastes but it is hard not to enjoy it, and it was an especially poignant watch this year after the recent passing of Shane MacGowan.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned

As has been mentioned in other comments, this film doesn't have the same enjoyable qualities as the first movie. The camaraderie between the two leads just isn't as good as Bridges and Reynolds. The storyline isn't that bad, it's just been done before. A lot!

This is a poor film, that had some potential. There's no reasons given for why the boys are hunting the girls for sport, why William has decided to get involved, or why Abigail is chosen to do it. So many holes, script could have been better. Avoid.

Tetris

This is an excellent film telling the true story of one man's challenge to bring Tetris out from behind the iron curtain. As the cat and mouse antics of the Russians play out, you really feel for Henk Rogers as he struggles against all the forces at play including that of Robert Maxwell. An entertaining movie with a killer soundtrack as well.

You kind of know what you're getting with a Gerard Butler film these says and this one follows the usual pattern. Man has a job, something goes wrong, he sorts it all out. Not sure how this got a cinema roll-out, its production quality sits squarely in the streaming service level. Sure, there are worse ways to spend your time, but if you're looking for a no-brainer, men-wth-guns, people-in-a-predicament sort of film, this will do.

Scream 4

While not quite up to the standard set by the original Scream movie, Scream 4 definitely goes some way to rescue the franchise after the travesty that was Scream 3 and showcase it for the new generation of horror fans.

It's a kind of cross between 'Bridesmaids' and 'Very Bad Things', that's not as funny as the former and not as good as the latter.

A Game of Secrets

A standard, run-of-the-mill documentary highlighting the Football Leaks scandal that didn't just shine a light on the world of football finances, but shone the light, flashed it a few times and shouted at the top of its lungs about how corrupt the cesspool was. No major revelations, but an interesting documentary nevertheless showing how it all came to be.

THX 1138

What the hell have I just watched? A bleak dystopian vision of the future, THX 1138 is paced slower than a sloth on sedatives with a storyline that raises more questions than it answers. Characters are introduced for no reason and add nothing to the story which has an abrupt and unsatisfactory conclusion. Robert Duvall is probably the only positive in this film with his performance as the titular THX 1138, but ultimately that isn't the highest praise it could be. Don't bother watching this, just read the synopsis on WIkipedia!

Carter

Carter is pretty much a two hour chase sequence, viewed as one continuous shot, although it is incredibly easy to work out where the scenes were cut and spliced. The camera work is so juddery it might induce an epileptic fit and the CGI is laughable in places. The story itself is very basic it could have been written by a teenager.

Night of the Living Dead

The original zombie movie. However it isn't the zombies that are the main focus, it is the portrayal of man's adaptation to the threat of the undead that takes center stage. Each character has their own role (the leader, the scared, the hopeful, etc) and it is this that carries the movie through to it's unlikely conclusion. A must-see film regardless of whether you're a fan of the genre or not.

Each to their own I guess. I thought this was a fitting end to a decades-old storyline. The series had just run out of steam but this last installment made up a bit on some of the previous dour entries.
