Total awesome. My heart was in my throat continuously watching this. Great visual style, Awesome soundtrack, and one of the best movie openings I've seen in a while. The chemistry between Gosling and Mulligan is palpable. One suggestion when you watch it - turn the lights down and the sound up - it is a movie that requires your undivided attention...
My absolutely favourite of the Walt Disney-era Disney films. Amazing songs and great characters. It also stands up well to the test of time. Trivia - This was the last film to have Walt Disney's personal touch before his death in 1966.
An Aussie classic - "The Castle" is laugh-out-loud hilarious! It's one of those movies that just gets better and better with repeated viewings, and has so many quotable lines!
Trivia - Look out for Eric Bana is his first ever film role.
Trivia: Stoker was written by Wentworth Miller, the actor who played Michael Scofield in Fox's 2005 TV drama "Prison Break". Hard to believe, I know!
How have I only just watched this film? Absolutely breathtaking. The corridor fight scene, all shot in one take, is masterfully choreographed. I haven't seen the remake yet, but something tells me, it won't be a patch on this. Just watch it.
This was the best 50 minutes ever spent in the Star Wars universe. Flawless.in every respect.
Every few years Woody Allen's newest film is trumpeted by the press as his "best film in years" - Wimbledon, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Midnight in Paris - and while these films are good, when you finally get to watch them, they can't quite live up to the hype. Blue Jasmine more than lives up to it.
Cate Blanchett's Jasmine is one of the finest pieces of acting I have ever seen - a powerhouse performance. A touching portrayal of a woman holding on to life by her fingernails. The supporting roles are also first rate.
Blue Jasmine IS Woody Allen's best film in years, hell I'd even go as far to say that it could be one of his best films ever. At 77 years old he can still surprise us.
Trivia: Fans of cult movie Withnail & I should look out for Ralph Brown (Withnail & I's hilarious drug dealer, Danny) as the sheriff. I did a triple-take since I just couldn't believe it was him...
Perfectly cast. Perfectly acted. A slow burner with enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled till the final episode. I can't wait for season 2.
Not sure how this one passed me by. Brilliant and terrifying.
I not surprised she hated it - Dick van Dyke's "cockernee" accent was horrendous!
Great movie. This was the breakout role for Jennifer Aniston where, for the first time, she got to show her acting chops and prove that she could be more than just 'Rachel' from Friends. From her opening monologue, you realise that she is doing something special, and she puts in a wonderfully controlled performance.
Other standouts are early roles from Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled young man who thinks he's Holden Caulfield and Zooey Deschanel as a retail store employee with an acerbic wit.
The clever thing about this movie is that there is not one single piece of new footage used, other than the interviews. With F1 being such a media driven sport they were able to create a coherent narrative by simple using the sports and news footage from the time. At almost two hours in length it just flies by, and the ending packs an emotional punch.
Even if you are not a fan of F1 - I'm not - watch this film! It is a breathtaking testament to Senna the celebrity, and Senna the man...
Scientists have zeroed in on the cause of the massive bee die offs - pesticides called neonicotinoids from phamaceutical giant Bayer are responsible. Hilarious. While on the first viewing not everyone will get its charms, it is a film that only improves with repeated viewings. The performances are top notch, and it is chock full of memorable lines. I particularly love John C Reilly in a role that we would probably have seen Bill Murray in 10 years ago.
While the premise of "a guy on a stage reads out the comments posted on YouTube music videos" does not sound even remotely entertaining, do not be put off.
This is one of the funniest things I have watched in ages. Better still it gets funnier with repeated viewings!
MY CONDELENC!
Just. Watch. It. (Trust Me)
I absolutely loved the book when I read it a few years ago and I have been really pleased that they have truly done it justice with this adaption - it is definitely one of the best shows I have seen this year.
My only disappointment was that we never once saw Elizabeth, Calvin or Mad showing much affection towards Six Thirty. He was such an important character in the book and such an important member of the family. I just wish we got more of an indication of how much they loved him. The dog POV episode actually worked better than I thought it would but it always felt it was an aspect of the book that could have been easily excised. It was just sad that he was then pretty much ignored for the rest of the epsiodes.
The first episode was a really solid start, but this one has stepped things up to another level. It was amazing - really exciting and tense, and the world and characters are continuing to be fleshed out. Having recently re-read Northern Lights for the first time in twenty-odd years, I was reminded that the first book is the weakest of the three and the plot is rather too linear to make for interesting television, told almost solely from Lyra's perspective. I like the way in the show they have created different threads, so we now have the Gyptian's and Roger's stories running in parallel. I also like the way the series seems to be deviating from the book slightly to explore the Magisterium which should make the first series more dynamic. So far this show is proving to be everything I hoped an adaption of HDM could be. I can't wait for episode 3.
I haven't had this much fun with an action movie since John Woo's Hard Boiled. Amazing fight sequences and a high body count that doesn't let up from start to finish. What more do you want from an action film?
An engaging short film which stays with you long after its 23 minute running time. A sharp inciteful script, and a powerful and moving performance from Joseph Gilgun is sured up by Gourlay's solid direction. I look forward to more things from this director. Recommended.
The funniest movie I have seen in ages. Watch it with friends - laughter is best shared. :)
Liam Neeson is a serious badass in this movie! It starts slow but once he gives that speech, the movie amps up the action and doesn't let up until the end!
Rarely has rooting for the good guy, as he dispatches bad guys, been this much fun...
This movie is worth watching for its soundtrack alone!
Before I start, SPOILER ALERT!!!! Don't read on if if you haven't seen the movie!
Firstly, I want to say that I LOVED THIS MOVIE but there are a number of small things that niggle at me about it:
Catwoman was under-used and the whole "clean slate" device nonsense was never explained. How did BW get hold of it when noone else could? Where did he get it from?Secondly, there should have been more Kyle/Wayne scenes, more flirting, like inthe Burton movie. More sexual chemistry. Their kiss at the end felt forced.
JGL finding his way into the bat cave was great, and a cool idea to hint that the mantle of Batman could be taken over by this young heroic cop, but why oh why make his 'secret' christian name Robin? He's Robin, seriously? It felt like a completely unnecessary, and forced, way of inserting the batman mythos into the movie. He didn't need to be Robin and didn't seem like Robin!
When they killed Bruce Wayne, I was like "fucking awesome, what a finish to the trilogy!" and then they brought him back to life! What a cop out! It would have been so much better if they had at very least left it ambiguous. It would have been great to have the shot of Alfred at the cafe in Italy nodding to someone off-screen and then ending it at that moment! So we never know whether he is looking at BW or not! It would have made a way better finish.
Ignore the haters and watch it for what it is - several hours of fun escapist blockbuster entertainment! I loved it (with reservations about some of the hokier plot elements). Watch in IMAX if you can - it's well worth paying extra for, since sound and picture are where this movie shines!
Gareth Edward's first movie. Very impressive considering the shoestring budget. Not at all what you expect - much more character-driven than action packed. More romantic drama, than horror, though there are definitely scares to be had here. Very well shot, and keeps the suspense up by not showing the monsters until necessary. Recommended.
Forget "A Good Day to Die Hard", THIS should have been the new Die Hard movie. With only a few changes this could easily have replaced Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis as John McClaine. Other that a few minor flaws, it surprisingly delivered all the thrills of a classic 80s action movie. Sure the plot was preposterous - but that's kind of what makes it fun. For pure DieHardian action this movie leaves you smiling.
Zombies on a plane! Love it!
I felt the premiere was a strong, confident start. I love that its world and character building is being done gradually but assuredly. Like the best shows I suspect it’ll need a couple of episodes to fully draw you in, but it’s in the quiet character moments that it’ll hook you.
This is worth watching for Rhino alone! He RULES this pic!
