Now the story of a family whose future should have remained cancelled after season 3 and the one fan who had no choice but to watch season 4 to keep her trakt.tv account together. It's Vanessa's Arrested Development.
MY THOUGHTS ON SEASON 2:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
Cobra Kai comes kicking back with another BRILLIANT season! What a fantastic season this one was. I will admit I binged both Season 1 & 2 in a day but that's besides the point. This was impressive... Very impressive...
Season 2 showed just how much Kreese has a grip over Johnny & the effects his teachings have not only effected and shaped Johnny but how they're starting to effect Johnny's students - in particular Hawke & Miguel.
A lot of this season felt felt like it was focused on Johnny not only teaching his students about finding that grey area but also himself finding that grey area himself. I love how they haven't made it extremely cheesy with Johnny and turned him into some elite mastermind Sensei and have kept up with the flawed hero vibe they have going, its such a breath of fresh air.
With the return of Kreese we get to see the impact he has over Johnny and the manipulation that this man is capable of. You see this mainly with the teachings he is doing toward Johnny's students behind his back, Johnny tells them one thing and then Kreese intentionally tells them another thing. He slowly warps the minds of some of his students and we see who ends up believing in his beliefs at the end of the season (unfortunately).
We get to see a really beautiful episode with Johnny and his group of pals from Karate Kid, unfortunately they're all brought together by Tommy having Cancer and he has less than 24 hours to live. We get a really good reminiscing scene which is followed by a great bar fight and then unfortunately at the end the death of Tommy happens. Even though this was such an upsetting episode it was so beautifully handled and so much respect was put into it.
Throughout the Season you see Daniel focusing on Miyagi-do and his Daughter Sam & Robbie becoming his students. We start to see the strain that it brings onto his life & love life. As the season goes on we see Daniel try and find the balance he desperately needs especially with previous students of Cobra Kai leaving and joining Miyagi-do. I found that if was a great idea to show how Daniel struggled with being a sensei and passing on the lessons of Miyagi onto his students. It shows that both Johnny and Daniel are both more alike than they'd like to believe.
Now the finale. This episode absolutely destroyed me. I cried for SO long after this. Firstly I absolutely love Tory and I can understand her anger (doesn't justify what she did). The fight starts off with her and Sam and I was on the edge of my seat screaming for Tory to whoop her a** and then Robbie buts in and ends up hitting someone who was trying to help him? We're then introduced to Sam vs Tory & Miguel vs Robbie... and then Miyagi-do vs Cobra Kai. All the tensions that were building throughout the season all explode right here! The fighting was AMAZING! I didn't know who to root for, one minute I'm laughing and the next I'm yelling in anger! The best part of the fight has to be when Dimitri stands up to Hawk (or shall I say Eli) and beats him up and also how Stingray dealt with everyone. The worst part was seeing what Robbie does to Miguel. As soon as he was kicked over the rails I started to cry, that isn't an exaggeration either. Seeing him fall and then finally hit the stairs broke me. One of my favourite characters critically injured like that and potentially not walking again or even surviving really hurt. I just hope Robbie gets what he deserves.
In the Hospital there's a scene where both Johnny & Daniel stand in the elevator together, glance at each other and stand in silence. They both knew they were at blame and they just stood in silence. This to me was such a powerful scene, showing not only us but both Johnny and Daniel that their actions have not only effected themselves and their family but also the younger generation.
Then there was the final scene with Kreese. How snake like he was (he really is a cobra) and how he went behind Johnny's back and took ownership of Cobra Kai and also brainwashed his students to the point where they've left Johnny and have become Kreese's permanent students (Hawke, Tory & Stingray are some of the more notable characters). This was such a horrible thing to do and it irritated me beyond belief. I cant wait to see what happens to him in season 3.
Finally there was the friend request from Ali. This pretty much confirms her return in Season 3. I have a feeling she'll come and save Miguel or something along the lines of that but I truthfully have no idea. I'm just really excited to see how they play this one out!
Overall this was another incredible season and its 100% my favourite show. I am baffled with how 1 show can be so incredible.
8.1 for this season’s opening credits, I’d rate it 8.5/8.6 but imo I feel like it goes on for too long
it took them 2 yrs to come out with season 3 wtf. i forgot everything.
I actually liked this season. Trish and Alisa, Jessica's mother, were the non straight forward villains . As stated by everyone already, Jeri was the MVP, I wouldn't want to get on her bad side. Kilgrave's short appearance was disturbingly charismatic, spot-on performance by the actor once again .
Now, an analogy as my brief conclusion of the season... Main characters as the 7 sins:
- Sloth -> Jessica
- Envy (and massive insecurity) -> Trish
- Wrath -> Alisa, Jessica's mom
- Greed (for completion and scientific excellency) -> Dr. Karl
- Lust -> Dorothy, Trish's mom
- Pride (and damn confidence!) -> Jeri
- Gluttony (then for drugs, now for sex) -> Malcolm.
