Couldn't feel any less visual novel-y. They skipped quite a bunch of character work to get through more story and also focusing a little too much on not so interesting characters.
The Wakaba Girls 4koma strip is written by the same guy as Kiniro Mosaic whose adaptation I quite enjoyed. Unfortunately I didn't find the same charm and chemistry here. While the episode runtime here is a lot shorter I highly doubt that would have evaluated the "jokes" in a meaningful way. Maybe non-pandering tropes for the characters would help here?
J.C. Staff delivered a fun adaptation of Prison School even if censored on TV - consider me pleased! This series is driven by immature and sexual humor but also has a lot of absurd qualities to it. This is mainly highlighted by everyone being batshit crazy in some way but no one thinking much of it.
I can understand everyone that is put off by the racy artwork but unlike other ecchi shows with ^those sort of racks Prison School aims for more than just sexual gratification. Can't be that bad when there is also a live-action TV show launching this month, no?
Anno's Animator Expo showcases a diverse range of short movies with different approaches when it comes to animation. The amount of CG heavy productions gets bigger every year and certain advances can be seen here as well (with various degree of success). As with any collection of shorts there are some standouts (which even gathered some attention outside the project) and some not so great entries. Given the size those are very few though.
The project seems to have been vastly ignored by everybody which is understandable, I hope however that these kind of projects keep on coming (like Ani*Kuri, Anime Mirai, etc.).
Ninja Slayer sees Studio TRIGGER (or more likely just Akira Amemiya) pursuing the steps of Inferno Cop. Lots of cutout cheap ass giggle animations and not so serious plot. Unlike the former series they sometimes do "regular" scenes but not for very long.
The occasional YEEEEEEEARTTTTT shenanigans, the traditional ninja DOMO introductions and SAYONARA deaths are probably the high lights. Not really recommended.
A gotta give it to TRIGGER tho for having 26 different ending songs by various alternative Japanese bands (mostly rock but even shoegaze 👍).
With the slab of S2 specials coming out I just wanted to leave a little warning here. The Fruit of Grisaia is not a good show. It's a hot mess of a visual novel adaptation that decided that it's a good idea to combine all the different routes you can play into 2-3 episode arcs. Not only does this mean these routes are heavily condensed but you also get mood whip-lash and 5 times the traumatic backstories in a short time which is more funny than anything else.
The second season also ends in a harem lovers dream which is not a pretty sight. The specials also make it apparent that a huge part of the VNs is the porn as those try really really hard not to be hentai (the MC is quite the pussy slayer).
Can't sleep? Maybe these weird looking bishi will do the trick. At least that is what the show is about... 3 minutes of guys throwing suggestive & corny lines at you. Target demo? Fujoshi ("you" are referred to as a woman). Why did I watch this? The lulz m8y.
Ranpo Kitan is apparently commemorating the 50th year since the passing of Edogawa Ranpo; a famous Japanese mystery writer. I'm saying apparently because I hope that the guy never wrote anything as bad as this. I've only seen https://trakt.tv/movies/rampo-noir-2005 that was based on stories of his which lead me to believe that they were all a lot more grotesque (having ero guro influences) but this show is probably more a nod to his detective stories.
I honestly would be hard pressed to find any praise for the show*... The build up mysteries were sort of tolerable but it is really the main arc involving an alias called "Twenty-faces" bringing "Justice" to alleged criminals that is really bad.
In addition to that most of the characters are shallow or caricatures like the main character being maximum autistic and a trap for no reason or a imprisoned female thief that helps with intel who is keeping her submissive slaves in her cell for on-demand whipping.
Airing in the Noitamina the show does things slightly different visually like shading out people until they're relevant to the story and doing theatrical stage sets for exposition. While I usually like these sort of things it has that weird subpar Lerche look like on Danganronpa or AssClass. Certainly doesn't help to set the mood when something looks silly.
I'm cutting short here with a simple tip: don't watch this.

With Wes Craven's recent passing this show can't be considered a honor to his work. Luckily he didn't do much else than let them use his name for the show.
You can't do a slasher movie as a TV series.
The above is an actual quote from a character in this show which certainly applies here. There is little "slasher" in this show! Instead they took some basic ideas from the genre and paired it with Pretty Little Liars whose fans also seem to be the target audience.
No one does a decent job acting, the dialogue is often cringey, the story sucks and they make absolute no use of the runtime to build the characters or go past the cliché. They even had the balls to go for a second season.
For anyone who liked the movies and thinks that the TV series is the logical continuation you have to watch: don't do it.

I wasn't all that keen on the show as it started (the obvious panty galore). There are some twists and turns that make it more interesting. The crew behind it is certainly not untalented but there are plenty of things that didn't quite click. The show deals with time travel and it is competent most of the time, there is however the fact that Punch Line is a cross media work and some of it's elements and possible endings are left to it's upcoming game release.
Not really something I'd recommend but it was alright.
Consider me surprised that a show based on a series of songs doesn't contain any singing at all. This is the usual high school X super powers mix with subpar everything. I would have probably dropped it if the MC wasn't as genki as she is.
This show aims to get you checked-in at your local mental clinic... It's humor is focused on pervy stuff and otaku related themes. It's a bit of a hit and miss but as it's always the case with these short shows - you won't get burned given the length. There is maybe one or things you can get away from this but I wouldn't take the findings they present at face value.
A "safe" adaptation of the manga with so-so visuals. I found much of it to be pretty boring due to the simple fact that it isn't the most exciting series there is (especially if you know the story already). The second season is announced for 2016 so I'm going to keep it at a 6 otherwise it would have been a lackluster commercial only.

A steady downward spiral of awful writing is all I can credit this show to. The more Followers followed the Followers the worse it all got. Unfortunately it also doesn't hold up as an unintentional comedy ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
Meh, no idea why I even watched 9 episodes of this. I got a week behind and couldn't bring myself to continue. Low quality battle harem with Playstation 1 era graphics monsters. Fear not, everyone needs the MCs D here.

A bishi parody of the "Magical Girl" genre. Not even a bad one.
I laughted once... It's short and pointless.
Diving into the show with an open mind after a playful first episode I ended up quite disappointed.
Much of that can be attributed to the shows decision to drop the leading girl to follow her sidekick and her group of airheaded moeblobs. Following along with them are rather mundane stories that take place in various countries they visit.
The presentation is whats sets the show apart from others this season as they sport a colorful palette with varied backgrounds for the places they're at. Too bad that this also makes quality drops also more apparent.
WIT Studio took a risk with an original anime which is great but I won't applaud them for believing that throwing in cute girls on bikes will cut it.
Probably "the best" fantasy battle harem released this season but still really awful. It combines pretty much all the bad things you can say about Light Novels and their adaptations with the exception that it is probably a little better looking than the others (this season) and not as fanservice heavy.
So... the show got it's second season. Was it worth it? Totally not. It turned to utter trash (from an already messy adaptation).
S2 further diverts from the actual story it adapts (not that I've read it nor do I want to) but it's all with the supposed consent and input of the author - which is cool.. if it made any sense. They throw in so many characters we're supposed to give a shit only to involve them in things we know jack about. The show does in no way stand on it's own feet. Heck, the MC by this point is even harder to grasp. How great is it to have edgy fights with boring choreography and constant spasm of god awful animation! I'm floored how some people seriously liked the season. The only slightly redeeming thing was the anticlimactic last episode but it's by no means good.
Downgraded my overall rating from a "5" to a "4" (S2 is a 2/10).

Celestial Method marks the debut show for Studio 3Hz and will hopefully be overshadowed soon for something better the studio does. Apart from the actual content the show was well done.
If there is one word that describes to show it would be: M E L O D R A M AAAAAAA. I mean what else can you expect from drama around little kids. They already pull that card with the first episode! The dynamics are weird and the saucer loli doesn't help that at all. The story is predictable and they are not even trying to spice up the slice of life. If it weren't for weekly episodes I would not have made it through this.
What a harsh rating the show has on here (it's only three votes though)...
Milky Holmes is about four aspiring detectives in Detective Academy. With the help of special abilities called "Toys" they're out to catch the bad guys. They also happen to be the most successful team at their school. That is until the faithful day where they loose their "Toys". As it turns out the ladies are actually kinda... doofuses.
For most of it's runtime the show is a pure comedy and not a mystery show. There are tons of reaction faces and silly humor. The cast features plenty of whack jobs but is mostly one notes characters. Towards the final episodes they however always pack out the animation budget and deliver with some action packed finale (at least twice).
I genuinely enjoyed the show - up until the third season. That season introduced a new set of protagonist and antagonists. The original MH cast is still there but since the girls look up to them they try their hardest to be "serious detectives", at least in front of them. This really kills the spirit because the goofiness is what made the show fun in the first place.
Here is hoping that the upcoming season will be more like the first two.
This show starts out as a slice of life + girl in a wheel chair and then suddenly turns into a magical girls show... Being penned by Akame ga Kill's writer and heavily inspired by Madoka you can expect some suffering for these girls even though they complete their apparent goal with by Episode 5. The rushed approach is however not one I would consider good. After that episode the pacing is rather slow and there is little progression. The final episode (who doesn't have a writing credit by the original author) manages to invalidate all that has come before it and is worthy of the title "asspull".
If it wasn't for the suffering I would have dropped the show by Episode 6 and I would certainly not recommend the show to anyone. There are however people who champion this as an underdog so who knows ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
I'm just going to say that the first two episodes were really terrible but then it luckily turns around to less obnoxious otaku humor. I think it works best when it's just about the couple's relationship. With just three minutes per episode it's not much of a commitment anyways.
"Gugure! Kokkuri-san" is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The comedy style isn't exactly consistent and heavy on the reaction faces but it's still fun most of the time. The colorful cast has a certain charm to them and the show can be cute too. There is a certain Japanese weirdness to it which you just have to put up with.
I was ready for a SyFy tier story and thus skipping it. Some decent ratings and early reviews led me to believe it might be just mediocre instead of bad.
It's a messy story with bad acting and dialogue to say the least - add to that being boring too. They also decided to go with the biggest BS they got to get people to ?vote? for more episodes of it. What you are going to get at the end of these too long episodes is not going to make you satisfied. "The most important project for mankind" (hahaha) is a waste of time.
