What do people seriously expect from a movie like this? I watched it knowing exactly what to expect and really enjoyed it.
I walked into this movie with very little expectations. I didn't really know what to expect and I walked out of it being pleasantly surprised.
Very strong performances and chemistry by Daisy Edgar Jones and Glenn Powell. This movie is probably more like a 7 or a 7.5, but I rated it an 8, partly because of those two aformentioned performances, but also because I was just in Oklahoma and I loved it, so I think there's some recency bias there.
I thought some of the CGI in this movie looked slightly fake. Not really a good thing for a Tornado movie. You would expect a movie like this to have top tier CGI. I think that the fact that Tornadoes are grey and brown and have very difficult color palettes to work with made this movie a little bit messy and difficult to look at at times.
I was not a huge fan of Anthony Ramos, the "beta" love interest in the movie. Didn't love his character. I understand why he was there, it was a bit of a love triangle, but he just seemed like a very jealous character and unlikeable.
The plot line with the corrupt investor guy was a cheesy. It was never fully explored and it just served as a way to put a wedge between Glenn Powell and Anthony Ramos. Daisy just did some research onto this corrupt investor and the plot line was never fully explored and we got no closure on that piece. So that was a bit of a weird and useless addition.
I liked the guy yelling "Twins!!! We've got Twins!!" I wish they didn't put that in the trailer as it's a great line with excellent delivery.
I really enjoyed some of the sets in this movie. It looked like they filmed this on real sets, like real towns that have been destroyed by the tornadoes. I also like how they paid homage to storm chasers where after you've gotten your footage of the storm or collected your data on the storm, you go back and you help the community right away. I like that piece.
Overall, the best part about this movie was the push-pull relationship and chemistry between Glenn Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. The banter was really good throughout the course of the movie and it continued up until the final scene and I thought that was very well done. I also really like the scene where Kate goes back home and home to Oklahoma is playing in the background. That was a good montage, oddly moving, despite the absurdity of the solver iodide, cloud microphysics and just the general tornado stopping contraption (and yes - I suspended my disbelief - I get its a movie).
Overall, I would recommend seeing this film. Really good summer box office hit.
Was a good film. Enjoyed it.
Especially how Shooter McGavin is in it.
Terribly human, for good and bad, Civil War does not shy away from the message it’s trying to portray. The military action sequences are some of the best I’ve ever experienced, and in IMAX each gunshot rang in my ears.
The music was anxiety inducing, even during the calm moments, we feel the characters stress and emotions.
Fantastic film. I wish there was more explanation and world building so we knew why the country was in this state, but I understand the directors decision not to muddy the waters of what he wanted to say.
Unfrosted - :heart:x7
This is simply a fun, silly look at the cereal wars of the 1960s. Bottomline, it put a huge smile on my face - it really is quite silly and fun!!
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Great movie all around. from regina king's phenomenal performance and the late great lance reddick is force of nature with a strong on-screen presence. this is a biopic done right
Great movie but one that will raise your blood pressure. People sitting thousands of miles away worried more about political ramifications than the lives of people under immediate threat of being killed. This movie should unite all people regardless of political views.
Look. It's easy to bash lower budget movies.
But what you have here is a little bit of Die Hard, a little bit of The Raid, with the cinematography of a low budget film.
That is - shaky camera, higher frame rate, Netflix lighting.
But what you do have is Scott Adkins. And he always brings the goods. An aged Dolph Lundgren, well, you know the deal there. And a simple plot that works well enough to entertain over 90 minutes.
If it was filmed at 23fps on tape back in 1982, it would be a solid rental at Blockbuster.
It would be hilarious if Michael Mann cast Lady Gaga as Laura Ferrari.
The most accurate Resident Evil yet and no one likes it. It seems they prefer the crappy, shallow action flicks with Milla Jovovich over a genuine Resident Evil recreation.
Tonally all over the place, at moments I feel like they're wanting to go straight slasher and others are attempting a social satire, but as far as late 90s/early 2000s teen horror go it's a pretty fun time. It's hilarious, occasionally creepy, with so much bizarre sexual tension. Though the killer is dead obvious and the kills are mostly off-screen, it is way smarter than I expected it to be. Bringing something unconventional to the slasher genre and delivers a story which carries themes that are still relevant to this day. Not quite a classic but it could have been one.
Best Snyder movie so far. Sadly it is deeply misunderstood. Movie is way more deeper and complex than it looks like on first glance.
People don't realize Sweet Pea is the protagonist, Babydoll is a figment of Sweet Pea’s imagination. Babydoll does not exist. Babydoll's story is Sweet Pea’s story. Sweet Pea was sexually abused, killed her sister and is in psychiatric hospital in therapy. Babydoll is Sweet Pea's avatar. Way of dealing with grief, with guilt, and way to manage her current situation and overcome it. Babydoll is also Sweet Pea's guardian angel.
Sweet Pea is the only fully rounded character, other girls represent aspects of her psyche. Babydoll represents strength and courage, Amber loyalty, Blondie fear, and Rocket represents guilt. In the third level reality her psyche fights for the things to get her free from her current state. Second guardian angel (the Wise Man) guides her through. To fully recover she needs to get over her guilt (Rocket dies as a symbol), also other girls represent things which she needs to leave behind to fully recover .
Babydoll is one of those things. She is the fifth thing (“The fifth is a mystery. It is the reason. It is the goal. It will be a deep sacrifice and a perfect victory.”). Lobotomy of Babydoll represents Sweet Pea’s mind of taking control. Sweet Pea needs to sacrifice Babydoll to be “cured”. Escape at the end is a symbol of that process of being cured. That’s why the driver is the Wise Man, he guides her further.
Sucker Punch is Sweet Pea’s journey from “madness” to “sanity”. Movie is philosophical / psychological investigation wrapped in a special effects action-fantasy. As the movie changes realities (mostly in the third reality), Snyder uses more fetishized image of the girls. He uses clichés and cluttered iconography (nazi zombies, sexy schoolgirls). It is a way to detached and disconnected characters from second reality. Second reality, the brothel, is the “main” reality. In which everything happens.
Hey Zach, not every action scene needs slow motion. For fucks sake
I really hope the movie changed something in some people.
The idea of racism disgusts me.
The first time I watched the movie, I didn't noticed that he is blind. But when you rewatch it, you can see all the little hints for it. Really cool. But every Denzel movie is cool ^_^
Of course the picky people on this site who love throwing stuff a 1 out of 10 or 2 out of 10. Threw this either a 1 out of 10 and 2 out of 10 lol.
Come on, this isn’t a Happy Madison movie or a bad a spoof movie noir is half the stuff you hate on here.
I like comedy horror movies that throw in stuff like being stuck in a Horror movie, living the same day over and over again or switching bodies. Now there’s a time travel horror movie, count me in.
This captures how an overly privileged child of this generation would react to being stuck in the 80’s. Yes gym class dodgeball was pretty much like that lol.
Every February 14th I watch two movies: My Bloody Valentine, and Valentine. I feel that Valentine is superior for many reason, not the least of which being that it stays true to the idea of Valentine's Day itself, while working within the framework of a slasher movie. Honestly, what does a mineworker have to do with V-day? Furthermore, the kills in Valentine are motivated by heartbreak - very apropos.
Within the pantheon of holiday-themed movies with mask-wearing killers - which go back to Halloween and exploded during the '80s - we have those that stand the test of time, and those that have rightfully been forgotten. Valentine not only pays tribute to the genre's roots, with its whodunit plot, but also manages to carve out its own place.
We have several big names here - some of whom were just starting out their career - (e.g., Richards, Boreanaz, Shelton, and Heigl).
The score is affective while being subtle. There is no forced humor - which is a component I hate in horror - there may be some funny moments, but they all fit within the situation. The direction is spot on, down to the colors, and mood.
Another piece that was handled well are the kills: within a slasher movie there is going to be a bodycount, the trouble is balancing setting up the characters enough so you have some level of feeling when they die, versus having too much time with them.
Valentine - similar to the first Halloween - has a small bodycount of our core girls, and then just anyone who gets in the way. Again, every part of the movie just works. It's not just a random person killing random people. There is motive here.
This is truly a classic that I can enjoy every year, and it never gets old.
Wasn't a big fan when it came out, but it's actually a pretty fun slasher throwback. Some fun characters, some awful ones, and a cool killer. Would've been nice to get a couple of these...
The scariest part of this movie was when that woman said "Everything's better swimming in ketchup."
Thrilling historical war drama about an enslaved man who escapes from his captors only to be chased and hunted through the forest and swamp. He must survive in order to return to his family. Will Smith gives a superb performance. My biggest praise is it's cinematography it looks excellent from the unique coloring, the set, costumes and the way it was filmed. It's around 70% black & white and 30% colors it just depends on the scenes and some characters are colored and others aren't. It felt weird in the beginning but I got used to it quickly and it gives a unique style to the film. The runtime felt overlong a lot could of been cut out but I was captivated the whole time and was never bored. I wish it got more emotional overall. The alligator scene was so cool and the war sequences in the third act looked gorgeous.
I remember them And1 Mixtapes..Crazy..You had to be there..The And1 Era had everyone doing them moves..And the Video Game too Dope.
