In 2008, i saw "Cloverfield" for the first time, i had no idea about what the movie was and a i didn't know i would love it, the simple script and the found footage style made as an imersive and amazing experience, i really enjoyed.
8 years later and the same producers come back with a semi-sequel, i guess that's how i can call this film, in january i didn't even know this movie was coming out, i tought it was weird cause they were using Cloverfield in the name, so i saw a small teaser and i was surprised that this film was totally different from the previous one. The filming style, the atmosphere, everything from the predecessor was gone.
New filming style (which by the way is a beautiful cinematography), new atmosphere, new characters, new story. Dan Trachtenberg's first feature film is just amazing, very competitive and stylish direction, everything works on this film, the simple script works along with the cast of three. Mary Elizabeth Winstead outstanding as usual, John Goodman on one of the best works of his career and John Gallagher Jr. i never saw acting but he surprised me.
The atmosphere created in the film is just great, caught my attention in every second, the shadowed cinematography and a very imersive soundtrack by Bear McCreary makes it almost perfect.
The third act rushes a little bit, and the ending may have some mixed receptions, i liked it. (Obs: don't watch the trailers, it may have too many information and ruin your experience).
10 Cloverfield Lane is one of the best psychological thriller movies of the decade, terrific and almost perfect. Go see it.
Let's make one thing clear, the phrase "it's a movie for fans", is not an argument, let's go to the point.
Director Zack Snyder confirms here that he is a bad director, he doesn't know how to tell stories, he is so desperate to introduce the Justice League that the movie ended up being totally overstuffed and nonsense at some point. The montage of the movie is just HORRIBLE, like... one scene there's some tense moment and then suddenly, the screen turns to black and cut to a stupid scene of Lois Lane investigating something or Diana Prince checking her e-mail. Bruce Wayne's nightmare sequences are just empty, stupid and pointless.
The dark tone of the film is not necessarily bad, is not meant to be a joyfull film.
I still don't understand WHAT THE F*** is Laurence Fishburne doing in this movie, basically the same thing in "Man of Steel", nothing.
The movie it's so rushed for a 2 hours and 40 minutes that the epic battle between the 2 greatest heroes ends up being nothing but disappointing, and almost laughable at the end. Transposing scenes from the comics to the big screen is cool, but where's the context on them ? it's a buy fan ticket.
Doomsday........... Horrible, terrible, a visual rape, an insult to the cinema.
Lex Luthor................ no words worth it.
Wonder Woman: 5 minutes in the film and 5 as Diana Prince. But Gadot does a good job
Superman, it's actually better than in the previous film.
Batman is the best thing from this film, a bloodthirsty dark knight who can finally move his neck. It's the batman i've always wanted to see in the movies. Nice work Ben Affleck.
The other good thing from this film is Hans Zimmer's glorious score... Hans Zimmer is the god from this movie.
Conclusion: Could be the best superhero movie of all time, but ends up being worst as many of.
Rocky Balboa is back and he is the biggest legend of boxing, even when is not boxing.
Creed comes with Apollo Creed's son, Adonnis, who wants to fight, but never knew his father and wants Mr. Balboa to train him, that's the story. Very simple but there's more.
I had no expectations for this movie, and i'm still very surprised for what i've just seen, one of the most impressive things from this picture it's the magnificent direction by the young Ryan Coogler (who did an amazing job on Fruitvale Station), everything is edited very well, there are a few long takes which are impressive, even in fight scenes, it's hard not to punch the air during the fight scenes.
Michael B. Jordan redeemed himself (after the horrible Fantastic Four) and brings a very charismatic Adonnis Creed, the great Tessa Thompson is the new Adrian Pennino, and Sylvesyer Stallone brings his best performance ever, no doubt this is the second best movie of the Rocky franchise, very strong and very, very, very emotional. Ludwig Göransson's score it's one of the greatest points of this picture, bringing pieces of the classic Rocky theme, a lot of hip-hop beats, and orchestrated sound, makes it almost perfect.
Even though this film recycled elements from the first film, it's one of the best ones from the franchise and you must see it now, i mean, right now ! 9/10
Shakespeare's Scottish play comes to the cinema again for the eighth time, with Justin Kurzel on the command, can we expect the best Macbeth adaptation to the cinema ? and it was necessary to have another adaptation, No, here's why:
Led by a great cast, Fassbender and Cotillard are exceptional, the movie brings lots of elements from the original source, and brings a impressive direction by Justin Kurzel, some stunning smoky visual and some amazing saturated takes, its mise en scene is spectacular. But the movie fails on bringing a good rhythm, most people who are not familiar Shakespeare's work will probably be very bored, it's not an easy movie to swallow, but neither the older versions of the Scottish play, Kurosawa's version has more elements from its original source and it's still superior to all the adaptations to date, Polanski's also good but superior to this new version.
Macbeth is a beautiful film, with and brilliant cast and a good direction, altought it's tone and rhythm fails to bring a good view, and the fact that it is very inferior to the previous adaptations, and that it is not necessary to have another Macbeth movie. It's a must see. 7/10
Words can't describe how i'm feeling after seeing this movie, but i'll try it. Well, 10 years waiting for a new Star Wars movie, 33 waiting for a sequel of the original trilogy, what could we expect ? new characters ? the classic characters ? John Williams music ? beautiful visual effects ? a reboot/remake/sequel or what ?
YES ! there's all of it in Force Awakens. The feeling of nostalgia for the classic faces such as Solo, Chewie and Leia, and all that stuff we always loved such as that piece of junk called Millenium Falcon, there are a lot of references from the classic ones.
But, what i was really expecting was the fresh faces and the story and direction of J.J. Abrams, and god...... it was... PERFECT. The idea of bringing the classic characters to this story was great, but presenting us with these new characters was even better ! There's so much charisma and chemistry in those ones, Ridley, Boyega, Isaac, even the new droid BB-8 is such a lovely character, Maz Kanata, portrayed by the amazing Lupita Nyong'o, works as a new version of our Master Yoda.
About the new empire called as the First Order, i had my little regards, the main villain, Kylo Ren, is a good one, but can evolve much more on the next films, Captain Phasma, the chromed stormtrooper has some similarities with the classic bounty hunter Boba Fett, also can evolve much more, General Hux is a crazy dictator, the whole First Order and it's supreme leader Snoke, it has so much mystery.
Well... my last words about this film are: Definitely the best film of 2015 and the best Star Wars film since Empire Strikes Back. GO SEE IT ! 10/10
Visually stunning, but poorly written, according to Zack Snyder's vision of the film, Sucker Punch it's an "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns", well, this movie it's so bad that apparently seems as if he was written while he was actually in wonderland.
Appears to be a dull and boring videogame with a dumb plot and a terrible cast such as the "browning" Emily "Boring" with her dull girls.
Filled with non-stop action and beautiful women but boring as hell, Sucker Punch is totally nonsense, with an weird first act, followed by a "what the hell ?' second act and concluding with an stupid third act. It has some short positive points such as the soundtrack by Tyler Bates, the awesome videogame look-like visual and beautiful girls and that's it, the rest of the movie is absolutely dispensable, which is a bit of a huge deception for a big studio movie like this.
Zack Snyder is not a bad director, he fills our eyes with beautiful images and the slow motion scenes he puts into are cool but annoying sometimes, but honestly, Snyder should be forbidden to write his original scripts for movies, i still don't understand 85% of the film, maybe because it sucks so much. 4/10
The movie has a few problems of focus and charisma of some characters such as the poor vilain General Zod and it's motivations, so as the sideckick Faora. But the rise of Superman in this movie is Amazing, such as Snyder's vision of the Man of Steel, the fall of Krypton along with Kal-El's parents and the creation of the Kent family is well done, the young Clark Kent lost among his gift is well-constructed until it's grown.
If you're expecting a homage to Superman's Christopher Reeve, then go watch Superman Returns (2006) because this movie is different from every Superman movie ever done, darker and more serious. The main cast does a great job, Henry Cavill is THE Superman, you can feel it's charisma in it, Amy Adams as Lois Lane is definitely the best version of the character, Russel Crowe as Jor-El is good and so as Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, Michael Shannon was one of the biggest problems of the film, the acting seems too forced, the menace of General Zod is not believable, is laughable, the reasons of the vilain are not convincing, it's dull such as Terence Stamp portrayal back in Superman I and II.
Now technically the movie is visually striking, full of fights and destruction, the effects of Superman flying is incredible, it's beautiful. It is the first Superman movie without the classic Superman's Theme by John Williams, but Hans Zimmer does a great job on creating a theme to a new man of steel atmosphere. Expecting a sequel. 7/10
PERFECT ! One of the best comic books adaptation of all time
Keeps getting better and better !
