Beric Dondarrion getting shot by Bilbo Baggins
I'm not a writer, but I imagine writing the first episode of a sitcom is no easy undertaking, nevermind a revival of one 20 years after the first run finished.
I liked this episode, it had a lot of setting up to do, which it did well and whilst trying to inject the classic frasier moment of "frasier doesn't know what's going on in the other room".
It wasn't the tidiest episode, but I'll put that down to the cast settling in. The in-memoriam moments are very good and they don't shy away, but also don't go over the top.
I've high hopes for this revival, the 2nd episode is better, hopefully the trend remains :fingers_crossed:
This episode is definitely slower than the first two but still keeps up the quality and further builds the mystery around Jo and what happened on the ISS. The story is very intriguing I must say. I also noticed that this episode was directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, who directed my favorite German film „Der Untergang“. So this is nice to see as well.
One of the best television episodes I’ve ever watched. Absolutely blown away, was great at first anyway but once he starts inserting the trivia questions naturally I started to lose it. “Pure Imagination” playing at the end was the perfect tie-in, I’m shocked
All scenes and storylines with Wednesday are great, but the endless portentous, pretentious dream sequences are tedious in the extreme, and especially for a show that literally never goes anywhere.
A 20 minute episode is far more interesting and endearing than a whole trilogy of movies. I really hope this gets expanded into a full series!
While brief seconds were mildly amusing, and I acknowledge they tried to do something different here, I have to agree this was extremely odd and didn't land or water at all.
Segments:
And this was quick to go from "amusingly disturbing" to "wth is going on?". The next episode will probably make or brake this show, for me.
It's so hard to heap enough praise on this show and do it justice. The complexity of the story, the beauty of the land. The cinematography, direction, acting from the stars to the extras, and crew giving 100% to the production of this masterpiece, it's such a pleasure to watch.
Such a beautifully told story.
Damn, at the very beginning when he tosses the stuff in the half-closed bin, that's one smooth throw !
I also love how the brother-in-law's book, which is absolute contrived drivel, appears to the severed (who have never read a book) as some powerfully revealing text.
the season finale was a bit less cringy and a bit darker than usual...anyways I'm still looking forward to the prequel spinoff Greg the Egg, the origin story of a little Machiavellian fuck
1) (again) Teenagers and their underdeveloped brains, oh my god. Unfortunately, in TLOU every idiotic decision becomes a literal life or death situation.
2) STELLAR performance by Storm Reid, I swear it forced Bella to take her own acting up a notch. The result was my tear stained face (and quite possibly yours too).
3) Fuuuuuuucccccck! "Back in 5 mins", I'm bawling.
8/10 - for Riley/Storm Reid, the pop culture references, the delightful reminders of life pre apocalypse, and a (nearly) flawless victory.
A nice start.
Great to hear familiar names and to see this very familiar land.
It seems to be a slow start, but one I appreciate it, I myself need to know the characters, care about them, before I acctually care about the plot.
I do think they choose to do too many places and characters and we didn't even see them all yet. But I am interested. Hope they can all be linked together in a satisfying way.
But I do miss the long haired elves.
Also, OST is great, as I expected from this composer.
It was very weird to be eating spaghetti while watching this episode. But wow, mindblown.
This is a significant downgrade to the previous seasons. The production quality is perfect. A bit childish, but good. But this first episode lost it's touch from what it did so well in the first 2 seasons.
I don't think I've ever been left this speechless by a show before, what a climax, wow!!
The pilot was very promising and this second episode is at the same level. I really like this story so far.
Joe is a very interesting character to follow because already I find myself being totally creeped out by him while at the same time rooting for him to get the girl. He has a warmth and kindness over him, like when he interacts with Paco, that can shift in a split second. Also like that from the voice over we can somewhat tell that he himself doesn't see it as creepy, the way he stalks Beck.
Can't wait to see how this develops further now that he got the girl, and the mention of Candace, what happened there.
I feel like I watch a lot of TV, and don't think I've ever seen any of these actors before (I'll check later), but my first impressions of them as "lesser known", is that they're all pretty good.
A lot of shows end up with bad no-name actors, but I don't think any of these ones are bad, it's pretty impressive.
Edit:Excluding the sheriff of course.
For those who don't know about hilarious censorship that happened to the scene between Batman and Catwoman.
Speaking on the creative freedom that comes with writing villains rather than heroes, Halpern gave the example of a moment in the upcoming third season of the animated series where Batman was originally meant to be "going down" on Catwoman. Unfortunately, the higher ups at DC were having none of it.
"They're like, 'Heroes don't do that,'" said Halpern. "So we said, 'Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?' They were like, 'No, it's that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It's hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.'"
Another episode with little action. We seem to be at the beginning of another story cycle. I liked it nevertheless.
Had some interesting angles like the world building, again. I guess now we know how the Empire builds it's massive arsenal. They probably have thousands of those facilities. I was very aware that Andor was already looking for weaknesses and planing his escape. We can easily assume he won't stay there for his term.
Syril is again put in his place and I wonder what he'll do now. Is he going rogue ? (intentional choice of word). Another question being raised is: who is Luthen ? I mean, who is he really ? What's his angle, why is he so adamant at forcing the issue of rebellion ?
Lot's of room for speculation.
This was THE MOMENT to finally kill off Layton. Instead they killed the character that kept the show interesting. Predictable and rough to watch.
This episode. The acting. Oh my gosh. I don’t usually leave a comment on these things but this episode is just :asterisk_symbol:chef’s kiss:asterisk_symbol:
and just like that, Ken is a little boy again, who did something wrong, where his father cleans it up, and everything fell into place.
Logan is bigger than me cause if I was him and I found out my enemy just killed someone I would not intervine anyway, not to hurt them but not to help them, I know he is doing it for the Roy name and not specifically to help Kendall but still he was actually nice and acted like a father.
I wanna be Team Kendall but Logan had a point when he asked Kendall why he wanted this, and Kendall couldn’t mumble a reason; and after the lake incident Kendall lost me
And I feel like Kendall’s problem could’ve been solved from episode 1 with good PR, the reason investors and the board didn’t trust him was because of his image, he seemed weak, insecure and had a drug problem before taking over, and was recently separated, so he just need a great PR team
On a last note I didn’t like Shiv’s wedding dress for her, I don’t feel it matches her vibe
- "Oh, my God. MIT. That's actually one of the schools I consider pretending to go to, so."
- "Oh, yes. I read about your lies."
- "Oh, thank you."
- "If there's a way to cure cancer, it's in here."
- "Oh, well, that would have come in handy when I pretended to have cancer."
Elliott's subplots are always my favorite.
Just finished watching the first episode of “The Devil’s Hour,” and I’m happy to say it’s off to a good start.
The story is captivating, and the show’s overall atmosphere is brilliantly done. Capaldi, who is always a joy to watch, will most likely deliver another impressive performance. The rest of the cast also looks solid.
The pacing was definitely on the slower end, but I didn’t mind it too much; if anything, it added to the eeriness of the story. I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds.
01x01 - 3.33: 7.6/10 (Impressive)
The first half was super slow. But that last half was like getting sucker punched hard. It'll knock you out. xD I'd rate a 6 but the last half was a doozy so 7 outta 10.
Absolutely loved seeing the care and thought that went into the final episode of Season 2. Appreciate the consideration from Favreau on how the technology of deepfakes can be used for good or for ill, and making sure that artists like this group are using it for the right reasons while at the same time, thinking about how to technologically keep things under control in the future in the interest of maintaining truthfulness.
Excellent job by all involved.
People of the earth can you hear me?
Came a voice from the sky on that magical night
And in the colors of a thousand sunsets
They traveled through the world on a silvery light
