Not alltogether bad but watching it almost 10 years after it aired you instantly get the feeling this is one of this (now) overused story arcs of a cat and mouse game between a cop and a genius killer who will always get away in an unexpected twist until the final episode where she makes a stupid mistake.
The whole setup is very generic, the characters are clichèd (cop with marriage issues, child prodigy killing her parents) , and I am already tired of the sexual angle. Plus there is an awful logic issue: why did no one in the crematorium find the gun parts ? If you want to be recognized as an intelligent drama don't make such mistakes.loading replies
Yeah, I feel exactly the same about this show just having started it ... Not only the gun parts, but why couldn’t they have Zoe identify the voice? Isn’t that basic 101 police work?

@marcel1983 Well, Wakanda is the main country of the MCU after all, at least when it comes to science and tech.

@marcel1983 any episodes that mention anything Wakanda related, just don't watch it. Then everyone's happy, those of us that are ok with the Wakanda storylines can watch them, people like you that are not, don't have to. All good :thumbsup_tone4:

@balazs955 This episode was written before his death, hence him being in it
Still wondering how Thor died to a single arrow (even if it had the extra force from Hank), it only took a DAY for Loki to take office and he also knew what a mobile phone is. Also why is Hank Yellowjacket, rather than Ant-Man?

@volksdk In the comics Hank eventually turns evil and wears the yellow jacket costume
finally, an episode that actually lives up to the name What If, rather than just gender swapping or race swapping a character
loading replies
Hmmm, you have a remarkably narrow world view if all you took from those episodes was just "gender swapping or race swapping a character." T'Challa is a very different person than Peter Quill and Peggy Carter is much more assertive due to her upbringing than opposed to Steve Rogers. The previous two episodes have very little to do with race or gender, and much more to do with how contrasting personalities put in similar situations would create vastly different outcomes.
Yeah, as always Disney stealing back to back from the Japanese. Christine dying here is a rip off of Mayuri from Steins;Gate.

Review by Andrew Bloom
VIP9[7.7/10] I was so pleasantly surprised by this! I didn’t really know what to expect, with this being Marvel Studios’ first foray into animation and the high concept premise of the show. But I really enjoyed what we got.
For a while, I expected that this was really just going to be the plot of Captain America: The First Avenger except with Peggy slotted in rather than Steve. And that would still have been perfectly fun! Watching this show hit the same beats of that film, except with small but significant difference thanks to Captain Carter being in the role rather than Steve Rogers would have been worthwhile on its own.
For one thing, I like how this episode, as Agent Carter did, focuses on how even with her accomplsuhments, Peggy faces discrimination because of her gender. Of all the people for the MCU to bring back, it’s funny that it’s Bradley Whitford’s returning from the all-but forgotten Agent Carter one-shot. But he makes sense as someone who always thought too little of Peggy, stepping into a leadership role after Col. Phillips is shot, and creating an internal impediment.
To the same end, I like how the episode flips the dynamic with Peggy and Steve, but tshowing how they still understood one another and would bond with one another, even if their situations were changed. The two still falling in love, only to have Peggy making the heroic civilization-saving sacrifice play instead, is still heart-rending, and a nice sign that even as major things change, some things stay the same.
But I also liked the places where this episode goes off the reservation! Howard Stark building a proto-Iron Man suit for Steve Rogers called “The Hydra Stomper”? Yes please! Captain Carter saving Bucky, thereby avoiding the Winter Soldier situation (at least with him)? Hell yes. Her finding the tesseract and bringing it back to the good guys on an early mission? Awesome!
The further along the plot of First Avenger that this episode gets, the more it diverges and makes its own rules and own story, and I really appreciated that. Her team’s attack on Red Skull’s stronghold made for a rolokcing conclusion. I don’t know who Red Skull’s “champion” was. (Hive? A Chithuri?) But watching Peggy fight a giant squid monster while the Howling Commandos rescue Steve made for a killer conclusion.
I was especially impressed by the fight sequences here. I have to admit that I had some reticence about the cell-shaded graphics. In truth, the vocal tracks didn’t always sink perfectly. But the action was surprisingly fluid and well-staged. The show uses the freedom of animation to add greater flow to Captain Carter’s badassery, and some of the combat has a more impressionsitic style that makes it top tier MCU fisticuffs. Even the use of lighting and color in these fights stand out. Going into What If...? my biggest concern was the visuals, but they came through like gangbusters.
Overall, this was an exciting start to this new show and raised my expectations for What If...? to be more than a shiny lark, and instead be a meaningful exploration of what these changes in the path might look like.

@andrewbloom Just popping in to say i'm 99% sure the tentacleboy is Shuma-Gorath! From my understanding (which might not be fully accurate) he's basically an extra-dimensional being of chaos and superbly powerful. I think his appearance adapts itself to the viewer because his true form cannot be comprehended by mortals (hi Lovecraft), andddd Hydra worships him in the comments and want to revive him, or bring him back? Anyway, super good to see that Marvel is taking this show as an opportunity to get some of the crazier comics stuff in.

Review by Lord Million
what was this garbage that I just wasted 1 hour watching. This show is as far from the movie as one could possibly get. Other than the few references this has nothing to do with the Doomsday time clock from The Watchmen movie. for a pilot or plot I give this episode a great big F. I am afraid i will have to force myself to watch another episode just to give this series a chance. Nothing made any sense in this episode. the world or the alternative America that we saw in the movie is one that was clear on its stance when it came to vigilantes. However we have the number of persons that had super powers both heroes and villains . In the series we have a lot of people running around in mask but absolutely no superheroes introduced in the first episode. Some naked guy typing at the chair seems to be our first introduction as to what they may try to develop into a villain. However there is more confusion than mystery. There is a somewhat forced or artificial connection to the characters in the series. At one point a plane has crashed and I realize that I didn't care whether the person in the wreckage survived or died. there is absolutely no character like Rorschach or Doctor Manhattan that connected with the audience in the way that we saw in the movie. This plot is very disappointing to say the least. One would think that HBO could or would have done better. they clearly need to give this series some love if this is how they're going to start it off.

@lordmillion The Watchmen movie has very little to do with the Watchmen comics, so why would you think the TV show would have anything to do with the movie?
YESSSSLENA!!! But it was a little bit embarrassing that Kate was such a good match for her cause Yelena is a BLACK WIDOW!!! Yelena wake up!!!
And I guess kate’s mom tipped Valentina of about clint’s whereabouts and current mission, cause kate’s mom 100% is a bad guy.loading replies
@aars26 I mean, was she though? If Yelena didn't clip that harness to Kate she'd of been a splat on the sidewalk. I think the 4 way fight was great.
I went into this blind besides knowing Hawkeye is a superhero character. Also have heard of Kate Bishop but again, don't know much either.
First episode was pretty entertaining in my opinion. I was intrigued from the start to the end. Little confused at times such as when Kate started to kick ass (mostly) effortlessly. From an earlier scene, it was shown she has a martial arts background so I guess that's how. But I just felt it like a normal character who suddenly easily fight like a superhero.
There some funny moments too, mostly from Kate's lines and delivery.
Camera work was good especially during the cellar fight segment. Cool battle choreography during that and the last fight scene.
Don't know much about Hawkeye yet but he seems like he'll be a likeable character. Though I'm interested in Kate's character the most so far.Definitely going to watch the next episode. Especially after that cliffhanger with Armand's possible death & Hawkeye & Kate meeting.
Some memorable scenes: the opening, bell tower, dog + pizza, cellar fight segment, rest of the episode.

The animation at the start shows that she spent around a decade training, working on her skills, and winning competitions, so it makes sense that she kicked ass after all that... well, at least on fiction. haha

@jasperkazai I think whatever happened is probably related to how her father died, if he really died that day!
Amazingly written. This is one of the most important messages out there right now and the episode was amazingly written by the star of the episode: Azie Tesfai.
As allies, if you choose to be, we should keep asking the questions Azie and the other writers handed to us. Let's do better instead of commenting that it's all political.
Also, human rights isn't propaganda or political bullshit, it's a f*cking RIGHT. Thank you and goodnight
loading replies
if you understood what was happening in the episode you wouldn't be saying what you are saying....
bad villain that can overpower every superhero is looking for a way to become. basically immortal and you think that instead of trying to stop her, superheroes should do nurses job.
good stuff.
the theme of being against racism and stuff is really good and needs to be presented more ,so do human rights .
however here we are not talking about what should be said but what was shown in the episode.
and the episode was so badly written the suggests that we should put the rights of people in colour above the right of future life of 7 billion people which also INCLUDES THEM.
superheroes don't and shouldn't care if you are black white alien or whatever they just want to save the majority of the population and that's what they were doing.
people be like "I hate this garbage so much it's awful cant wait for it to end" and still watch every episode day 1

@harlillyquinn Well it's sorta like when someone serves you a disgusting snack that's not so bad that you're repulsed but it's not good at all either, and you robotically keep reaching for another piece and get grossed out each time, until the plate is taken away. Same thing here, this is mindless TV that's badly acted but most of us just watch it for lack of anything better to do. It's by no means terrible, but that doesn't mean it's any good either :joy:
I'm 10 minutes into this episode and it's already exhausting. Are they just going to go round in circles and keep the 4400 detained all season? Does the CW not have the budget to film outside the walls of the detention center?
loading replies
@ciku The detention itself is not bothering me that much - its episode 2 and keeping them away from society makes sense while figuring out what happened.
What bothers me is the cruelty. The writers seemingly want to show us a combination of detention camps for illegals and cruelty against black people.
But it just makes no sense, they go out of their way to be cruel to them, which is the opposite of what you want to do when you need people to cooperate.
Not to mention, that they can sue the hell out of them for it, since its clearly punishment for all while just one of the group (technically two) did "something wrong" ("escaping", which isn't even a crime - since the detainment is probably somewhere in the grey zone legally).
Then there is the "protagonist" who ordered the glass walls to stay in Episode 1. From the reaction the lesbian had, the writers seemingly thought they were writing a "strong female character" while they just wrote a dick (yes, she isn't bitchy, being a dick is the right insult for her.)

A great start into season 6 :) Nothing too special but a nice introduction with a few new elements and a lot of awesome CGI scenes.
It often made me miss Alex though but that seems intended.
I'm also curious to see what Avasarala has in store and hope that we'll get a few interesting scenes at the new colony (where that scene with the little girl at the beginning took place). I guess that place should become quite relevant during this season. I just hope that five more episodes will be enough to provide a satisfying conclusion for this show.
loading replies
@dahj also: It feels like there's so much potential for character development left:
- Naomi, Amos, and Peaches figuring out how to get along
- Bobbie rejoining the action (possibly the Roccinante)
- A lot could happen at the new colony (could be told in an exploratory way, similar to "Lost in Space" but without that annoying psychologist/psycho please).
- Philip has a lot of options. His father had a pretty bad influence on him but it seems like Philip finally has enough of that. Him shooting his friend in anger sucked though.
Oh, thank god no big stupid fight with the Bad guy. A breath of fresh air. I wish similar thing would have happened in WandaVision.
Almost perfect final episode. Except for
Rick SanchezHe Who Remains choice of... let's call it attitude. Don't get me wrong positively surprised that he wasn't your typical bad guy, but it didn't quite work for the MCU too joyful and too similar to your average Marvel character in general. Maybe if he actually looked bored or tired that would have worked better. This way Ant-man villain could still feel different by being menacing this time around. But anyway it was a great MCU show I'm looking forward to season 2.loading replies
To me He sounded and looked quite suicidal.
Honestly this episode could have been condensed into 5 or 10 minutes. Too much talking and just in general nothing really going on until the end, and then we get a predictable plot twist. I mean just a bad season finale. It just sprinkles enough at the end to keep you interested for the second season. Unless season two is better, this show ain’t worth it at all. But on the other hand I’m tired of waiting for the second season every damn time. It used to be that the pilot is supposed to hook you. And don’t get me started how much of a scam 6 episodes in one season is.
Overall this episode was just meh, which doesn’t make it look very good since it’s the season finale.loading replies
@wingedmando bro are you kidding? It’s fucking kang the conqueror! This is like if thanos was introduced in a season finale
what a disappointing finale to a show that has been mostly lacklustre. Loki and Syvie spent most of it sitting down and talking which doesn't exactly make for an exciting episode. some questions were answered, but we were still left with more questions than answers. the reveal of Kang as the one behind the TVA was expected but was still underwhelming for several reasons. not once was he referred to as Kang, he wasn't wearing his iconic armour from the comics and the actor playing him came across as too jovial when Kang should be menacing.
oh well, Loki and Syvie finally kiss, so at least the shippers will be happy
loading replies
@quasar1967 ok, if you just want excitement, watch endgame or porn but this show is not meant for audience to be excited all the time. You don't like talking? Then don't expect to love it. It doesn't have to be fight scenes all the time. This just goes to show that Marvel is looking how mindful the audience are. and of course, how sure are you it is Kang? it can be but he literally mentioned that there are other versions of him.
question, how do you embarrass, humiliate and emasculate a once beloved character in just 1 episode?
answer, have him punched in the face and kneed in the groin over and over by Sif because Marvel thinks it's funnyloading replies
@quasar1967 Did you miss the time Hulk smashed him repeatedly and called him a puny god? It’s not the first time Loki got beat down, in fact, he got punched in every movies he’s in and every episode of this series.
This was more confusing than compelling. Too talky.
loading replies
@the_argentinian Confusing? I mean... lol... Only if you weren't actually watching it.
It hurts. They've put in some nice little nods to the original series, and the opening scene is nice, but then they crank up the language for no good reason. Does he really need to make a comment when they're going through the gate at the beginning? Spike would have stuffed his face with food instead of asking if he could eat. Why the heck is Faye already making an appearance? Why have the big-bad show up this early? I definitely want to see how they've done some of the other bounties they've hinted at, but I'm afraid it would just hurt too much to keep watching.

@strivinglife I hated Faye and Vicious showing up so early, but you forget that Spike hates the pepper noodles, because it's supposed to have beef in it.

@the_argentinian did you know The Atom was created before Ant-Man? a lot of heroes and villains from Marvel and DC are copies from each other to try to sell more comics.
I hope this cliffhanger was due to COVID - if not: You suck writers
Cliffhanger finales are only acceptable under a single circumstance and that is when the show was already renewed when the finale was written.
There are so many shows which ended on a cliffhanger. When will the responsible parties understand? It does not help! With at least 6 months between seasons most people aren't awaiting the next episode more at that time - it just pisses people like me off.

@player8472 It was. COVID hit just as they were starting to shoot episode 10.
The politics here and their mention are cringe-inducing as is the inconsistent dealing with violence. Falcon - ahem, Captain America - standing around and didactically lecturing the politicians is some of the most gag-inducing material that I've seen in a long time. (Even more so when we learn that he actually changed their minds. Talk about Talk No Jutsu...) The kind of naivete that would be notable even in animated kids' movies. Reminder that the MCU for all its strength is ultimately creatively bankrupt and can't do good storytelling for shit. Also, the only half-decent villain they've written in terms of ideology is Zemo. Karli is just plain fucking annoying as is how Sam thinks of her.
