The original comic book was some kind of absurd horror story with a touch of humor. In the pilot Seth Rogan successfully (sarcastically meant) converted it into its own parody.
I didn't like it. It was chaotic. The story was confusing. I could follow it because I know the original story, but my wife (who doesn't) didn't understand a single word of it. So anything that is good in the pilot is only good because the original story was good.

@crullx Did you watch anymore of the show? If you read the comic, you should at least watch the first episode of season 2. It starts where the comic does. It gets way better after season 1.

I tried to like this show, I really did. It started off strong then went completely downhill for me. Started to lose interest in it fast and felt the story wasn't really going anywhere. I'm not going to say to NOT watch it, because I still believe it's worth watching. I just hope they improve upon it.

Misfits

I started watching this because Trakt recommended it for me. The characters and cast seems to change every season (explained through weird abrupt reasons) but they all share the same traits: on community service, posses a power and they have a story. I was sad to see Nathan disappear as he always brought random and inappropriate humor to everything. But she's replaced with Rudy who I came to like very fast.

A lot of the happenings are surprisingly compelling at times, genuine loss, love and heartbreak all around. I was captivated all the way through, a real thrill ride. I hope it's doing well in the UK because I'd definitely want to see more.

I watched the pilot, but Colbert just doesn't bring the humor (he never has). It felt like a waste of time, so I'll be skipping this version of the late show.

Many viewers find David Letterman's style of comedy to be more engaging and entertaining compared to Colbert's. Letterman had a unique ability to blend wit, sarcasm, and spontaneity, creating memorable moments that resonated with audiences for decades. His interviews were often characterized by a dry humor and offbeat charm, making them both insightful and amusing. Additionally, Letterman's comedic timing and delivery were widely praised, contributing to his status as a late-night legend. Overall, while Colbert has his own strengths as a host, many fans of late-night television simply prefer the comedic sensibilities of David Letterman.

It's not a BAD show, it's just not at the same level as the old show. It's a dumbed down version for CBS. Hopefully with Stewart on the writing team, they'll be able to push the boundaries a bit more after he falls off the radar when the shiny newness wears off.

Terra Nova

They always cancel good sci-fi shows and leave on crappy "reality" shows.

loading replies

That's because the general TV audience is comprised of idiots. If it's not Honey Doo-Doo or American Idle the dumbasses won't watch it, and Fox doesn't give any new shows much of a chance to catch on anymore. 30 rating share or canceled!

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Personally, I don't understand all the hate around this final installment in the series. I thought this was a pretty good Indiana Jones movie, all in all, and I've watched them in the theater since they first came out (except this one).

Yes, the beginning has some de-aging and it's not great - but you get used to it pretty fast and I was seeing old Indiana Jones in no time. Yes Harrison Ford doesn't do his own stunts anymore but he's pretty old to be jumping horses through downtown New York. Lots of CGI in this one, but that's where we are today - you don't see hardly anything but CGI these days so why should this film be any different?

The story is pretty outlandish, but then again the first one that everyone loves had spirits jumping out of an mythical box so you have to suspend your disbelief if you want to watch shows like this.

If I were to rate this in the series as a whole:

#1: Raiders of the Lost Ark
#2: Last Crusade
#3: Dial of Destiny
#4: Temple of Doom
#5: Crystal Skull (mostly because Shia LaBouff sucked)

I get that some people, particularly with Temple of Doom, will disagree with my ranking but they are mine, not yours.

I went Into DoD with a ton of trepidation, all I heard was how bad it was in places like Trakt, but in reality it surpassed my expectations by a pretty large amount. They had a nice nod to all previous characters (except Brody, that was disappointing to me - I know the actor is dead but a mention would have been nice). I think this was a good final movie for Indie.

loading replies

@leewelch75 I agree also. I heard nothing but how bad and woke this was so I went in with very low expectations. I can't stand the new Star Wars sequels so I'm not a Disney fanboy, but honestly I don't get all the complaints about this movie. I thought it was great and felt like an authentic Indiana Jones movie to me. Just because it has a female lead doesn't automatically make it woke, and it made sense because it was part of the story. Strong female characters have always been part of Indiana Jones. This isn't a case of Rey Skywalker where she's just a badass with no explanation or reason at all. Helena's story and history makes sense. What am I missing?

House of the Dragon: 1x02 The Rogue Prince

I'm in love with everything about this, but reusing the Game of Thrones title theme is some bullshit. Djawadi is perfectly capable of writing something new and exciting, or an alternate orchestration at the very least.

loading replies

@thoroughmas I think this will be the trend if they make a show after this also. I'm fine with it really as it just kind of sets the mood, especially for casual viewers who don't follow the books. At least they changed up the end credits theme.

Ahsoka: 1x05 Part Five: Shadow Warrior

I don't understand why they'd do young Ahsoka and not have Ashley Eckstein as the voice. Even this version doesn't match the plucky Clone Wars version. Whole thing still feels like a fan film still to me. Love Filoni but this series been so underwhelming for me.

Massive Star Wars fan but honestly end up looking forward to the credits so I can put something else on.

loading replies

@aeronmelon We absolutely saw how weird old Indy's voice was in the young CGI scenes but I think they could have done a decent enough job processing Ashley's to where no one would notice except the hardcore nerds.

12 Monkeys: 3x03 Enemy

Deacon should absolutely be dead. Why can't they kill off characters in this show? Stop doing that! It's dumb! Every show that keeps characters alive too long and keeps ressurecting them like this looks dumb! Though what they're doing with his character isn't that bad.

And the time jackets are cool but OP as hell.

Expectations are a weird thing. I expected nothing from this show and got everything I wanted. And it's not over yet - it seems to have just started.

The build-up within this episode was seriously awesome. They were putting in all the pieces and you know at some point there'll be an explosion. And it came. The Maarva speech was so emotional, I was really about to start crying when all hell broke loose.

With all that it was easy to overlook the brilliant scheme by Mon Mothma, putting the spotlight on her husband. And seeing the self indulgent ISB patting themselves on the shoulders. Not understanding they've been had.

I'm still not sure what role Syril will play. So far I get the impression you could remove him and loose nothing. He's always there, yet doesn't really do much. In this episode again.

Oh, and the after credit scene - a nice bonus.

Really looking forward to season two and angry I have to wait for a year.

loading replies

@finfan I think this is part of the reason it's so good. We had zero expectations going in. I thought it was going to be some half-baked goofy shallow leadup to Rogue One, but this has really set the bar for a new kind of Star Wars. They tried a lot of new and different ideas that we don't normally see, and they did it perfectly.

Preacher: 4x05 Bleak City

Holy hell, this episode was boring. It wasn't necessarily bad, it's just that nothing worthwhile happened. The plot is barely moving forward, and nothing else is happening that makes the episode enjoyable. Not to mention, every step forward is dragged out for far too long. Eugene's character is pointless, serves no purpose, and is not interesting, whatsoever. And I don't care about the archangel and his beloved, who happens to be a demon.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch: 2x05 Entombed

I generally can't stand the voice of Wanda Sykes. But this proves that having a unique sounding voice doesn't replace an actually talented voice actor. Whenever she speaks it sounds like she's either reading from a microwave user manual or reading a bedtime story to her kids. It feels seperate from the rest of the cast. But that might just be me since I don't like her voice to begin with.

That said, these last two episodes really don't seem to drive forward the overall story. I'm just bored waiting for some actual development.

@noxiuz I agree with this, but she seemed a little better than her voice in the last one. Hopefully she isn't the new Cid.

Game of Thrones: 8x01 Winterfell

Name a less iconic couple than Jon and Daenerys, I'll wait.
Their romantic storyline is purely fanservice (who asked for this, anyway?). Everything about them seems forced and their scenes are so cringey that it gives me actual physical pain to watch them. Teenagers write better fanfiction on the Internet every day. And to add insult to the injury, Kit and Emilia have the on-screen chemistry of two small rocks placed next to each other. Someone please make this stop.

@carolinaoftarth Agreed, I rolled my eyes quite a few times in this episode. Painful!

The Mandalorian: 1x01 Chapter 1: The Mandalorian

Despite some very minor issues with its tone, this is very good.
However, since this episode mostly consists of a lot of world building, I’m not going to extensively review it.
We still need to get a true sense of the story and characters after all.
I don’t think it’s too early to say that this show is going to be revolutionary for tv in terms of scope, cinematography and CGI.
The score is really well done too, and I applaud the fact that the pacing is tight; the episode isn’t too long or drawn out (this could of course be a budget constraint), which is something that the vast majority of Netflix shows struggle with.
If I should compare it to anything else, the closest thing that comes to mind is Firefly, especially in terms of tone.
I just hope that over the next few episodes the story and characters will become as strong as they were on Firefly.

loading replies

@jordyep World-building is kind of Filoni's style. I didn't notice it so much with Rebels, but I REALLY noticed it with Resistance. In fact, I would argue they spent too much time world-building on Resistance. Nothing really interesting happened until the 5th or 6th episode of that show.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 7x01 The Bad Batch

Welcome back, Clone Wars! While the members of the Bad Batch kind of feel like they're ticking of a list of stereotypes, they are fun to watch. And this series always excelled with episodes focused on clones, they can provide some of the best stories. I particularly liked the tension between the "regs" and these guys.

Great tease about Echo being behind it all. It can be difficult to keep track of who's who with the clones, but members of the original Domino Squad did stick with me.

I can't believe how good the show looks now. The technology and artistry and experience involved has moved it up to a new level.

@caiomunarolo LOL yes, how silly! I was thinking for some reason they only had stun weapons and the story was using that as another odd against them. Preacher: 4x07 Messiahs

Well, they butchered what happened to Jesse after he fell off the place in the desert. So Jesse died and got imprisoned in Hell instead of surviving and losing an eye, and his memory of how it happened; his fight with God? We already know he'll lose an eye because of the title sequence, but what difference does that make if they've already changed the scene in which it happened in the comics? At this point, I'll be genuinely surprised if he'll still lose his eye due to his fight against God.

loading replies

@legendaryfang56 They might still do that confrontation but in a different way. I'm disappointed also that they didn't play the desert scene out the way it was in the comics.
