Ultimately, the documentary really makes you wish that Jodorowsky's version of Dune had pushed through. It would have been vastly different from the original novel, but I think it would have amazing in its own way.
Pretty decent action movie with an okay plot. Nothing spectacular, but it's not bad.
Just one question: Why do the people inside act like they're starving?
There's a bunch of cows roaming around near the wall. At this point, they don't need to resort to cannibalism anymore.
I think the problem with this movie is that it assumes you've read the comics before you watched this. I hadn't and so to me it felt like the story jumped all over the place and lacked coherence.
I really liked Legion so I had high hopes for Dominion. The premise is great and the sets and costumes are cool but the execution was kind of shit. I don't feel for any of the characters and the acting's flat and boring. It's like watching a trainwreck. A boring trainwreck
A bit too slow for my tastes. I didn't like Su-Mi at all and it wasn't nearly as scary as I'd hoped it would be. Though I do like the fact that you end up going, "Oh, shit," when you look back at the rest of the movie after the twist was revealed.
The thing about the movie is that it assumes audiences are familiar with the characters so it doesn't bother giving you much in terms of their backstories. This would be a legitimate comparison to the MCU--Marvel built up their audience's connection with individual characters in solo movies. The DCEU skips that and though I think it's possible that you can start with a group movie then branch into backstories and still be able to make the audience connect with a character, BvS needed to work on that a bit more. The movie tries to intrigue you about the characters so that you'll want to watch the other DCEU movies to find out about them.
But that being said, BvS felt like a love letter from DC to their fans. It felt like DC was saying, "Here's what you've been waiting for, you deserve this! I'm giving you all the treats!" I'm not sure why people keep saying that the first part was difficult to follow (I had no problems keeping track of what was happening). The pacing IS fast but if you pay attention (which, why wouldn't you pay attention to a movie you paid for) then you should have no problems.
I had an easier time connecting emotionally to Superman here than I did in MoS. You could really feel how 20 years fighting crime in Gotham jaded Batman and chipped away what little optimism he had left for fighting crime. And the cameos of the rest of the Justice League! The cameos were everything!!
The movie's not perfect but it's definitely an improvement over MoS.
The movie feels like an episode of the Justice League animated series. For some people hoping for something grander, that's a bad thing, but for other people who love the DCAU, that's a good thing. Best thing about the movie was the chemistry between the members of the League.
While it's a decent movie, it doesn't really do anything new when you compare it to the first movie. There was a hint of a bigger sort of conspiracy thing at the end, but it felt tacked on, wasn't really felt at any other point in the movie, and we didn't get a third movie so it was more or less pointless.
This was HILARIOUS. New fans of the franchise will have no problem keeping up but there are also a lot of nods/references for the older fans.
This is the greatest thing DC will ever produce. If I could give it a 20/10, I would. It's ridiculous, completely extra, and an overall wild ride.
On paper, the movie seems like the kind of thing I should be really into, twist and all, but it just fell flat. It was more like an entertaining but forgettable Bayformers movie rather than a sequel to Pacific Rim.
The humor and the more serious parts weren't balanced as neatly as they could've been but it wasn't too jarring. I don't mind the choice they went with for the big bad and I thought it also made sense for it to be Enchantress. El Diablo was kind of the breakout star in this -- I wasn't expecting to like him as much as I did.
The movie's not perfect but it's still an over all fun ride.
If you like grittier movies, you'll enjoy this but if you're looking for an upbeat and happy Superman, this movie isn't for you.
I understand where the people who dislike Man of Steel are coming from. The things I dislike about it are the same things they dislike. The difference is that the things don't bother me as much as they do others, mostly because I like darker movies in general.
I think Man of Steel's biggest fault is what they did to Pa Kent's character - it's so jarring seeing him be so callous about other people's lives just so Clark could keep his secret. I understand advocating caution but letting a bus full of kids drown?
The special effects weren't as polished as the previous movies, the acting was stiff, and the movie as a whole wasn't engaging. Surprising since the first two movies were pretty decent.
