This film about volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft has everything I look for in a documentary. Stunning images of a fascinating subject are shown. At the same time, the protagonists are compelling. Furthermore, "Fire of Love" tells a coherent story. You don't learn much about volcanoes, but that probably wasn't the intention of this work. Instead, viewers are treated to a beautiful love story. The decision to only use archival footage was also the right one. Many recent documentaries with crisp 4K images appear soulless. The footage used here, on the other hand, has its own personality. "Fire of Love" is a thoroughly entertaining film. Images, content, and music work well together. A nomination for an Oscar would not surprise me and would be well-deserved.
I'm trying to be nice rating as 5. I understood the movie, it has its social criticism, but it could be more well executed, maybe written in a better way. So little suspense. I couldn't connect much to the characters. Some things felt so random to me, like some dialogues and characters choices. I was hyped to see the movie, so I'm kinda disappointed to be honest.
A ridiculously overstuffed mess. Such an ambitious and interesting concept but they turn it into an unbelievably dreary, overstuffed, and poorly put together slog. How can a film this poorly put together deserve anything higher? As far as found footage films go, there's got to be some logical reason for the camera to be present but not on this film. I found the choice of non-linear storytelling to be very strange as it's mostly ineffective when applied to the subgenre. It also relies too heavily on a twist and some real scary parts that come too late. There are too many failed attempts at emotional substance and this thing goes on for too long, by the time it finally gets to the good parts, you just don't care anymore.
Okay that was actually way better than i was expecting. This season was really bad but somehow the season did not fall of the cliff. If the season were more focused and better written, it could have been great.
Clarke should have spent the rest of her life alone though lol.
One shot movie that drags a you along a night in a restaurant. Horrible customers, lovely customers, angry egotistical staff, loving caring stuff, etc, etc
boring, predictable slug
If you are looking for a movie with great performances, and a "plot" where the twists are:
"SPOILER"
Food allergies customer gets food allergie
Irratic chef that dissappears frequently is addicted to coke /in financial trouble
I think it's time to put the F&F franchise to bed now. The storylines have been getting worse as the series has progressed and this is probably rated as one of the worst. What started out as a bunch of street racing outlaws has turned into something you would expect from Marvel with super heroes saving the world.
If you're into cars and speed then this is one to avoid. If you like super heroes and the most insane of storylines that even give James Bond movies a run for their money then you'll love this.
The one saving grace of the movie is the CGI but the plot scores a big fat zero. Over hyped for too long and should really have been left on the cutting room floor.
This show deserved a proper series finale. I’ll surely miss the Short family.
What a poor ending for a great show! It could have been cancelled with a little more care for the characters.
As an audience member I hate it when they don’t wrap things up for us ~ especially in mind altering or crazy films. I think it’s just lazy writing to not have a definitive ending.
I think the main flaw of the movie is that it asks too much out of the viewer. You need to have an extensive knowledge of how delusions form and how drug addicts behave and rationalize, in order to follow the characters and not tune out because of the absurdism. THIS IS NOT A SCI-FI FILM.
It's clear from start to end that the movie is about drug addiction and drug-induced psychosis. His prescription bottle read Hydrocodone, an opioid used for pain relief. On the phone he talked to his daughter about his fake injuries. He crushed his last two pills and snorted them off-screen before leaving his office. Isabel slips him something in his drink when they first meet, that's when his bender begins (along with the "powers"). From then on, Isabel and Greg seem to experience a drug-induced shared psychosis (aka folie à deux).
One way that could explain the "glitches in the Matrix" is if we assume that the audience is not an objective observer but either a third party in this shared psychosis or simply an extension of Greg's deluded subconscious.
Seeing a film that's won the Palme d'or at Cannes or Best Picture Oscar is like drinking a bottle of ridiculously expensive wine: with every sip you ask yourself over and over again if it deserves the price. Fortunately, Parasite is so good you won't be drinking very long because you'll be drunk on its power soon enough.
A film that crosses genres so many times it leaves a permanent mark, Parasite is a clever story performed wonderfully and directed to perfection.
So these guys have been a bit jealous/disappointed by the fact that Blair Witch Project has gotten that popular and accused it of being a rip-off of their movie (that has been released a year before). This obviously has been denied and appart from the occult angle they're not really similar.
In this we watch the documentary investigation of already found footage of some Ghost Hunters-esque team that looked into the Jersey Devil and got killed except for one guy who ends up being prosecuted for their murders (who then died in prison). There is obviously something more to it which is what the documentarian wants to uncover.
Where as Blair Witch actually built tension, this one feels mostly like an episode of a Fact or Fiction show. I found it rather boring and there is a lot of repetition. It later on proceeds to hammer in it's message about media and tops that off with a ridiculous ending.
Very entertaining, although I think they took a bit of liberty license with the actual facts for "dramatic effect." This story is a bit different from other versions I've read about over the years. I had no idea Westinghouse made his fortune on brakes for trains. In the movie, Tesla seems to have been thrown in as an afterthought instead of him actually being a bigger influence from what I've read. Regardless, it's still better than 99.9% of all the other films out there at the moment (or any time, based on the last 10 years). If you don't watch this in Dolby Surround sound you're missing 1/2 the movie btw. The music is very good too. Solid 9/10 for entertainment value.
This was a surprise find. Never heard of it but love Cusack and Cage so I clicked on it and stayed glued to the screen. Cage was excellent as a bad guy.
