This episode was not an episode that needed almost 60 minutes. The episode was unfocused, cutting between three storylines with one of them (Madrigal) that is totally uninteresting. I wish they would focus on John and Halsey’s story and drop the other two storylines. Kwan Ha and her story continues to be the weak spot of this series. The character and story are uninteresting, the character acts irrationally. The rest of Silver team was boring until one of them does something to become more interesting.
This week's episode was a marked drop in quality over last week's. There are too many extraneous plot lines in this episode that seem to be only there to pad the running time to get it to 43 minutes of airtime. The Clay Spencer arc is boring and the character is unlikeable, making it even harder to watch when he's onscreen. The Nate plot line about the burner phone and Hayes going to investigate... What is going on here? He's a Navy SEAL with enough time to go on a stakeout? C'mon, please.
The best thing this show has going for it is when the team is planning and executing missions. Tonight's mission was great, I love the authenticity of the show during these sequences -- from the way tracer rounds ricochet off metal to the tongue of flame that was coming out of the gatling gun.
The show writers should stop with the silly, unbelievable personal stories like Nate's and ditch Spencer altogether. I am wondering if the Nate thing will lead to something that is not what it seems (gasp!). But, that would come off even worse than if she was Nate's affair. We'll see how it goes. I liked the first two episodes a lot because they had a laser focus on the team working together. This episode was full of distractions and that made it a less likable show.
Does this mean that Hilarie Burton will no be on Lethal Weapon? :(
Quick observation, main character gets shot with phaser and gets a nice burn and minor hole. same phaser shoots bad guy and they disintegrate into red sparkles?
Daman Wayans needs to go and retire. He is too distracting and makes each episode painful to watch. I actually like the new character Cole and I think the show would do great with just him. Or maybe partner him up with Bailey. Let Murtaugh retire, get Wayans off the show. It'll benefit the show greatly.
This week’s episode was better than the pilot, but that’s not saying much. I think the problem is that the person-of-the-week thing doesn’t fit well into a 43 minute show. This is especially since the shows format requires that the persons life be revealed slowly throughout the running time. There’s just not enough time for the audience to find anything to latch onto with the features character of the week.
This episode did start off with a fun vibe and then decended into a darker vibe. Which is unfortunate because I liked the first part of this episode.
I will give it a couple of more episodes because of Shahi. But, it’s not looking great at this point.
Merry Christmas to us the audience. Excellent episode. I loved all the callbacks to the original film. Riggs in the red plaid shirt? Check. Riggs driving truck through Murtaugh's living room? Check. Christmas theme and music? Check.
This episode shows why The Orville is such a wonderful show and my favorite of this season. The show is reflective of real-world issues while being entertaining at the same time. This episode was a tad preachy, but it still entertains and is thought-provoking.
What an excellent episode. This is what’s missing in Discovery and Picard: People being people and going about their lives — without the constant need for some universe ending calamity breathing down their necks. This episode was fun and funny and totally enjoyable.
The weakest thing in this series continues to be Kwan Ha. The character is weak; the story is boring and uninspired; the actress is miscast and not very good; and it adds nothing to the show. Every time the show returned to Madrigal, the main storyline crawls to a halt — which us unfortunate because the main storyline is actually starting to get good. The action at the end of the episode was much better than the one in the pilot.
There are two issues I have with this episode. The Binar's intention were to save their world, that I get. But, why did they make it so difficult for Picard and Riker to get to where they needed to? For instance locking off the turbolift to the bridge, why do that? And it was made clear that the Binar's had pre-meditated this whole thing including trapping Riker in the Holodeck just in case the Binars needed help. The Binars also said that they had no intention of keeping Picard on the ship, it was just a happy accident. But, that makes no sense since at the end, in order to save their world they had locked the files and it needed two people working in tandem to unlock the files. If Picard had not accidentally wandered into the Holodeck, then Riker could not have help save the Binar's world.
Alton is a terrible teacher for these recruits.
Surprise! Young Michael B. Jordan.
Help was right and did the right thing.
I love when Seven calls Janeway on her bad decisions.
How many times can cops in this precinct get taken hostage? Apparently a lot.
I can see why this series was canceled. This last season was not good at all. Turning Lightman into more of a curmudgeon and making him unlikable really did not help the show at all. There were quite a few episodes where they recycled ideas from previous seasons. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was what they would have done with Michael B. Jordan's character. It almost seemed like they were getting that character ready for a larger role in the next season.
Just as quickly as the show found its footing last week, it slips backwards this week. The show is much more interesting when it deals with the happenings in the real world rather than the virtual world. The person-of the week format isn’t working very well because the show can’t connect that person with the audience in 43 minutes. It would be better if the show could switch to a format where a character gets a multi-episode story arc, letting the audience connect.
I am a huge fan of the inventive yet simple first film. It is a guilty pleasure of a film that includes giant robots and monsters, but has enough development of characters that I have something to latch onto. It also helps that Del Toro's imagination helps build not only some fantastic beasts, but a great world to have the action focus on.
This sequel, while almost stand alone, doesn't have as much in any of those departments. The characters are pretty flat. The relationships between the characters are barely developed (like between Pentecost and Lambert, or Pentecost and Amara). The film lacks any heart or soul to it. Yes, there is lots of action, lots of Jaegers fighting Kaiju, but it almost feels rote. While the fight scenes in the original film are masked in night and rain, the fight scenes in Uprising take place mostly in the bright day light. I figured that would make for something exciting, but the action mostly falls flat. Maybe, it's because there aren't any memorable touches in the fight scenes like the original such as the Newton's Cradle or the funny items falling out of cargo containers used as weapons.
Even with this said, I did enjoy the film for what it is, a film that aims high, but falls quite short of its original. The film is carried by John Boyega whose charisma makes the film very watchable. The casting of newcomer Cailee Spaeney was also great, she has a future ahead of her. I didn't much care for Scott Eastwood who doesn't emote anything other than "stern" or "annoyed".
The story for the film was pretty thin, except for the twist which sets off the big fight in the third act. I actually thought the twist of flipping Newt to be the bad guy was brilliant since Newt is the last guy I would think could be a bad guy.
I do wonder what happened to some of the other characters that survived the original film. What happened to Raleigh Becket? How come he's not with Mako Mori who shows up in this film? How come Herc Hansen is not leading the Shatterdome? And where in the hell is Hannibal Chau? The script doesn't bother to fill us in on these interesting characters from the first film.
The score was taken over by Lorne Balfe and was fairly forgettable until he uses Ramin Djawadi's original Pacific Rim theme in the third act.
I can't remember much of the first two films in this series. I actually can't remember why I even watched the first. But, it was nice to see the series finish up on the big screen, having I watched the first two on video.
The one thing this film has going for it is a constant sense of moment and urgency. And this is a great thing because the running time of the film is so long. The opening train sequence was Fast and Furious-like and worked very well. There are other action sequences spread throughout the film, they are fairly generic, but well-done. The special effects in the film were also impressive.
There are no Oscar-worthy performances in the film, but the actors all do give it all they have and it shows.
Overall, I am glad this this series got a big screen finale -- unlike the YA series that I begrudgingly watched and didn't get a finale, Divergent. This film is well put together, exciting and was worth watching on the big screen.
This is a comedy? It wasn't much on the funny side of things.
Not the best episode and the ending could be seen from a mile away. There were still a few good laughs Bortus almost singing "My Heart Will Go On" and the elevator music.
I'm still not sold on this show, I will give it another episode or two before giving up. The mission-of-the-week thing is going to get old real quick. Anne Heche is horribly miscast in her part. Mike Vogel is good, the rest of the team are mostly forgettable.
That ending really come out of nowhere. I hope they explain more.
The father-son storyline was genuinely touching.
A fun season. Enough fun to make it enjoyable and to help me overlook some clunkiness about the season.

A fun show and can’t ask for more than that.
OMG LOL Jazz hands was great!
