Based on the lauded Swedish film "En man som heter Ove" (A Man Called Ove).
As a kid I used to love this movie! I remember laughing throughout the entire movie and watching it over and over again. Now I've rewatched it and must say times have changed. It a decent action/comedy, maybe even better than most recent Hollywood efforts, but it's nothing more than that. If anything; it's a great look into the 80's. The theme music is legendary, Eddie Murphy's fast trashtalk, laughing and movements are iconic, and the whole interaction and atmosphere breathes 80's. Unfortunately the 80's are more than 20 years ago and this movie feels just as oldfashioned as Madonna's (then) revolutionary videoclips from that same time.. The rebel behaviour is not so rebel anymore, the jokes are rather lame, times have changed..
I still enjoyed it, but wouldn't recommend this as a great action/comedy, but more as a great example of a general 80's movie, just like Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club.
Full of cliche and bad dialogues, the one liners are what you expect cheesy as hell but nevertheless this is one entertaining 90s action movie.
Twenty years ago they could make a movie about a black boxer who was put in jail with fabricated evidence for reason that were clearly racist. But they could do it without slapping it into your face every ten minutes and drilling in a message with a sledgehammer.
This is a great movie and Denzel's performance was Oscar worthy.
Say hello if you have watched this classic one more time in preparation to the 2022 sequel
If rock is not your choice of music, skip this movie... but if you grew up in the 80s, you should appreciate the music, fun and experience portrayed in this movie.
This movie rocked!
With this movie, the Bourne Trilogy went instant classic. One of the best chase scenes I know of, a much deeper view on the identity of Bourne himself and the memorable 'magazine weapon' fight scene. Worth of a longer review, but I am too lazy today.
Why cant parodies be done like this now?
So many gags, the choice of actors is fantastic, its hard to believe now that this was Leslie Neilson's first ever comic role, but all the actors here were chosen because they always played it straight and that just adds to the comedy. Simply one of the best comedies of all time.
The chemistry between Favreau, Leguizamo and Emjay Anthony is amazing; just so natural.
It's the best thing Leguizamo, who I generally run hot and cold on, has done in a very long time. Perfect casting of a fantastic film.
Crank up the wonderful soundtrack, get in the kitchen and cook something!
I totally did not expect this movie to be so awesome. As an added bonus it has a great soundtrack!
You should not watch it on an empty stomach though :)
i was expecting to be stupid but not that much. just avoid it
Much more relatable than the book was, and even more charming and funnier. Mae Whitman actually makes the main character likable, where in the book she was kind of a b****
Loved it!
just lol, where is the horror?
