To Every You I've Loved Before

Be sure to watch this first before watching “To Me, The One Who Loved You”, otherwise, the impact of the two stories will be lessened.

Yes, both are standalone stories, but they are intricately interconnected.

After watching both, you can read my “Ending Explained” here: https://trakt.tv/comments/641225

The Glorious My Revenge

This one is a "moving on" + healing drama of the type most people don't want to watch.

The plot is simple and straightforward.

Watched via Viu Philippines.

The Moon

This is the best "Moon" to date. The #Kdrama industry once again has proven that they can produce top notch #scifi productions. They never cease to amaze me on how they can keep the human aspect strong in their stories without it turning into a regular drama.
I highly recommend this!

Love Reset

Lighthearted, funny, and have good lessons about relationships and married life. One of those you'll definitely watch again and again every year.

Love it!

Leave the World Behind

You'll like this movie if you like the storytelling style and the genre.

It's so hard to explain without spoiling it. Basically, it's straightforward. It focuses on how most ordinary people would react if the apocalypse suddenly happened.

There is nothing scifi here, I don't know why anyone would tag it as scifi. No action. No adventure. No mystery solving. It's human apocalyptic drama through and through.

Checkin' It Twice

That was a good watch. Heartwarming. Reminded me of why I want to get out of the urban life and home; and migrate somewhere quiet, tuned with nature, and a small town. When will that ever happen?

Regardless, this is a good reminder and inspiration. While fiction and too perfect, I believe it does happen, we just have to get out there and find it.

Timecop

Do I rate this based on the present (2023) or when I first saw this in 1994? I guess the latter, so it will be fair, an 8 out of 10. Many are rating and giving bad reviews about this show, but I think it is unfair. This was an early 1990s movie. Movies people are rating today will be just as a “bad” as they described 30 years from now.

That out of the way. It was nostalgic, re-watching this 29 years later. I was reminded of how people think of time travel back then, with not so much a worry about the grandfather paradox, and more about ripples in time.

We've come a long way, not just in movie making, storytelling, but also in how we perceive time and time travel. Yet, the ideas from the 20th Century is as valid today as it was before, only better and more mind-boggling.

If they reboot this, either as a new movie or a TV series, I wonder how it will be reinterpreted. Or maybe, one just have to watch the Korean TV sci-fi “Sisyphus: The Myth” to have a glimpse of what it can be. ^_~

Belle

A great adaptation and reinterpretation of “Beauty and the Beast” as a Japanese anime set in modern times.

I love how they used Virtual Reality as a plot device only; and avoiding the pitfall of explaining things that are not needed to be explained.

I now understand why this received a 14-minute standing ovation at Cannes (the 7th longest at the festival). It truly deserves it. A Masterpiece. I've never seen this level of reinterpretation of the classic “Beauty and the Beast”.

Knights of the Zodiac

So-so. There's potential, but it seems they were given a very low budget. They could've improved the script too, it was as if after so many edits, "this is fine, we're on a tight schedule". I can see where they want this to go, but they didn't deliver it well. It was lacking. It could've been better.

Gran Turismo

A must-watch film. It's based on a true story of how Gran Turismo simulation players achieved their dreams to be a professional racer. If you're a gamer, you'll understand and be able to relate well to the message of this film. Modern video games are not just games; it does teach us skills.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

I want to give it a 10, but something's lacking. Hacking. Tech. The “Impossible”. The spy. The team. Although it does look like they'll probably go to that route in the sequel.

Basically, I miss the original spirit and format of Mission Impossible. With where the story is going, I have high hopes for the sequel. ^_^

Oh. And play the theme song more frequently, please. Very nostalgic.

The Assassin

Basically, it's Rurouni Kenshin the Joseon version.

I wonder who will win, Himura Kenshin or Yi Nan?

Once Upon a Crime

Lovely. This is why I support the "Public Domain" movement (and CC-BY and CC-BY-SA as well), it gives writers the freedom to create new stories based on characters we are already familiar with. It gives us the "legal right" to present the "what-ifs" and let other people enjoy the adaptations.

A must watch.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

It could have been even more interesting if they explored the past instead of spending 95% of the film chasing each other everywhere. It's about time travel, from the title itself, and Indy exploring and witnessing the past is the greatest adventure and closure for the franchise. You have to ask yourself, are there archaeologists and treasure hunters who would never explore history if given the chance?

The Flash

Okay, when are we getting Supergirl spin-off? Sure, she died in the universe depicted here, but they can easily create a new one where it's the same actress.

Extraction 2

This one is far better than the first. I enjoyed this. Also, I like how this is standalone, I can forget Part 1 and just assume Part 2 is the first movie in this franchise.

Having said that, [my] expectations are high for Part 3. It should be equal to or better than Part 2 at this point.

All I can say is, Kathryn Newton was the perfect choice for this age of Cassie Lang.

Confidential Assignment 2: International

It's rare to see a sequel as good as the original. Confidential Assignment 2 was not only at par with the original, it surpassed it. This is more fun to watch. Have more action scenes. And, much solid plot. If they are going to release another sequel, they raised the standards too high with this release.

What I miss with Western movies: a solid plot, a serious story, but still can make you laugh because the comedy parts were natural. Glad to see the Koreans are sticking to that formula instead of following the footsteps of Hollywood.

Well done, great acting from all the actors, the staff, the director, writer, and editing team.

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds

What an awesome film. It touched my heart too.

  1. How they split the different part of his life, and in order of importance instead of chronological, that was a brilliant idea. It helped built the foundation of the story, the major message, while at the same time allowed them to insert other lessons along the way.

  2. It was also not about the main character, but it also reflected the lesson for the other characters, most especially the senior grim reaper.

  3. The CGI is perfect. If the CGI becomes ever more realistic, it would only distract the audience. If it was less, it would make the film cheap. It is important to strike the balance between eye candy and the message of the story. Well done.

  4. Choosing to set this story as a film instead of a TV show, or an episodic film, was itself a good decision. Keeping it as a film guaranteed the focus remain true, instead of adding other side stories that can lessen the impact of the story (and even distract the audience).

Tenet

What a crazy movie!

I haven't looked at time this way. It was very interesting and intriguing. Opposing flows of time existing simultaneously on the same place. Brilliant execution too. I love how there were no loose ends, a common mistake in time travel stories (or usually ignored).

Highly recommended if you want to challenge yourself.

Making Time

The film was doing good, even though the government agents were acting like college students, until Nick tried to win back his ex-wife outside their friend's garage. That was a very long chit-chat. It could've been shortened without losing the impact and the feeling of them getting back together. That lengthy dialogue dragged the film. It was doing good until that part. :)

Revenge Girl

I love this. Simple but the fight choreography, effects, and the idea are solid.

They can turn this into a TV series and explore more about the technology, the enhanced kids, history, and more character and world development.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Sorry, 6 out of 10. I don't know what I've watched.

Don't get me wrong, The actors were great and I love parallel worlds/timeline stories which I dissect for others to understand. But this one? It was as if a newbie writer wrote a story with all the genres in the world and jammed it into a 2-hour movie with a lot of unnecessary sexual scenes.

The constant switching between universes were also very distracting. It is understandable, the idea is there, but they used it excessively. It is fine if done in novels but totally not in a live-action (or animation) show.

The comedy. Was it really necessary to add that genre? All the comedy scenes were funny but the tone of the story, the plot, it doesn't fit at all. The excessive use of comedy not only was a distraction but it killed the movie.

It started as science fiction, turned into sex fights, became a comedy, then a teenage drama.

It was fun at first. Then it dragged on and eventually "what is the show about again?"

10/10 from me. An action comedy disaster film you've never seen before.

Equal and Universe Love

The story has potential but the production seems to be lacking in budget and time. Also, they need to get an experienced English translator for their embedded translation or just include one and leave it to their partner streaming sites to do the English translation for them.

I hope the sequel, if there ever will be one, will have the budget and time to allow the writer and director to tell the story. A good story shouldn't be wasted like this. Make it count.

Last but not the least, the robots does not have to be "stiff". What they lack are emotions not oil. They came from a very advance universe. The virus may have had removed their emotions but it did not made their motor movements like a robot prototype of the 1900s. Make them relax. I mean, look at that female robot host to the virus, not once did she act stiff. Why are the other robots stiff? They don't need to be. Even the fighting scenes of the robots, it was like watching someone do the robot dance.

I hope this improves in the sequel.

Azumi

This is actually good! It's slow at first, building the story of the group of assassins. Then it picks up and showed us amazing sword choreography. Great acting by Ueto Aya and even though she looks beautiful and pretty, she was able to exude her character's fierceness and one-mindedness of a true assassin. I can not help but compare her to Battousai whenever Azumi the Assassin shows up.

In memory of the original 10, and the perfectness of the production, story, and cast, I give this a perfect 10.
