I don't believe it - a freaking clip show
That's the third episode where things we see didn't actually happen. I find that annoying.
Stories aren't bad and the models and sets are great like usual with Anderson. But you really (!) need to buy into the 9 year old super agent thing for this to work at all.
Can't tell you much about the movie as I only watched 10 minutes or so. But if you're not willing to read subtitles you should stay away. Because depending on who's in a scene the language is either english, german or italian.
And since it's a fictional story better watch a documentary if you want to know the real story.
Not bad at all. It sure beats maniacal laughing Zelda from "Terrahawks" by a country mile.
Technically this is as good as the other Anderson productions yet the premise of a nine year old boy becoming a "most special agent" through brain transfer knowledge is far fetched even for a puppet show. It seems to come out of the mind of a child rather then an adult.
The show itself has that certain nostalgic charme though.
Interesting plot twist at the end but at the same time a little unsatisfied.
Sadly the show ended on a sour note.
With hopes of renewal they decided to go with the cliffhanger and the rest is history. In any case I always thought it would have been better to have Alf escape and close the show out that way. Even as a cliffhanger this was a bad idea. I mean, where would they have gone from here ?
I saw an interview with Anne Shedeen lately where she talked about the making of the show. How difficult it was for the actors. She said that Max Wright did exactly one take for the final scene and then went of the stage without another word and never looked back. He was very bitter at this point.
I hope he realized before he passed away how much we loved him and that the show wouldn't have been the same without him as Willie.
Maybe I should stop watching movies all together.
There I was, about to invest three hours into a movie about a man I thought to be one of the most interesting characters in human history, and it left me totally underwhelmed. In fact, I quit at the 2:20 hour mark.
This is not "The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer's role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II." This was more about american communist paranoia, about political intrique then it was about a build up to an event that changed the world. And even that, the Trinity test, was a massive dissapointment to lock at. It didn't look like an atomic explosion but rather just a giant gasoline fire, which it probably was. No fascination or awe or even fear, on my part about the power of nature they just unleashed. Why not make a movie about the project, the challenges, the difficulties when all you can show us of Oppenheimer is - what really ? What did he actually do, what were his contibutions other then sitting in meatings and hearing others talk.
I would like to say the acting was great but I can't as there are hardly scenes where anyone has more then two lines of dialogue in a row. Or longer scenes at all for that matter. You try to put yourself in one scene and it switches to the next, and the next and so on. Add to that jumping throught timelines and you can be left utterly confused. Which will probably be the reason it get's tons of Oscar's.
For me it's a soulless, lifeless and, dare I say it, boring movie stuffed with a massive cast that seemed so wasted on this.
What an incredibly boring movie. Totally lost interest after an hour with no incentive to carry on.
I always thought Napoleon to be an interesting character but after watching this I couldn't care less. He rather seems to be some kind of idiot. Also, the events in this movie are rushed through in a manner that is hard to follow and therefore hard to connect with. The only positive I can offer from this movie are the costumes and the sets.
According to imdb this movie made 214m$ worldwide. With a budget of about 200m this is a colossal failure. And I totally understand why.
For me, Neal never worked. Which is probably the reason why he only appeared in five episodes. But you need other persons for Alf to interact with which is why they kept bringing them in I guess.
That's eight episodes so far this season and this is the fourth I rate 5 or below. Hadn't one good laugh in it.
The pregnancy of Kate, and the resulting addition of baby Eric, was never a real favorite of mine. But Since Anne Schedeen got pregnant it was either writing it in or her out. And of those two I prefer the first.
Those two episodes didn't air in my country intially and I totally understand why.
This is just a stand-alone special that works under the premise that Alf is actually real and stars in his own TV shown which runs on NBC just like The Tonight Show which he is guest-hosting.
While there are some funny moments it's basically another clip show and a commercial for the show.
I've watched this episode so many times but I never noticed that Paul was a carbon copy of Paul Fusco. Not in terms of being a jerk, of course.
This is an eleven heart episode.
I really love it when the stories do have a personal touch to it. Makes you connect with the characters more. And you know that deep down inside Alf has a good heart.
Probably the only episode of ALF I don't like that much.
Remember when these Halloween episode were actually spooky. And why not air it last week when it would've been on time ?
That was actually a really good episode.
There are scenes, even though you know they are coming, you can't help but burst into laughter. You don't know what scene I'm talking about ?
zut alors
Bill Daily was great in "Jeannie". And I like him here, too.
Alf's 229 years old and his phase comes every 75 years. Maybe there's a different measurement of time on Melmac ?
Although it is a clip show and I usually don't like them, this is the best clip show I ever watched. And I wouldn't recommend skipping it. Why ? Because Alf is smashing it as Wayne Schlegel - Michigan Life and Casualties.
The real problem here is that this clip show came way too early. Which I don't think was planned because in this second part there were a couple of clips from episodes yet to be aired. Maybe it was supposed to be the season finale ?
In any case, it is what it is - a money saver. Because this show was expensive to make.
That was a really good arc.
Anne Meara was a great addition to the cast. The dynamic between Grandma and Alf is hilarious.
Max Wright was so amazing in this show. In hindsight I wonder if his rage against Alf was sometimes somewhat for real considering what you read about the mood on the set.
Without doubt one of the best ALF episodes.
This episode came way to early. You never believe for a second Alf's going to leave in episode seven. Plus, the family talking about his misdeeds with just so little time passed since his arrival felt of.
