I'm by no means a Tolkien expert so I can't say anything about how this fits in. Maybe that's an advantage as usually, people who have intimate knowledge tend to compare so much that they don´t enjoy what's there. Been there myself more than once.
It feels grand, the scenery and especially the soundtrack. The dialogue is great. Nothing like you hear in contemporary shows. I liked Galadriel in the movies and I'm really looking forward to learn more about her. I'm already beginning to somewhat fall in love with Morfydd Clark.
What can I say - it's but one episode but it was absolutely worth the wait.
They seem to be very confident that this is going to be running for a long time as the plot unfolds very slow. But I like it, it establishes the characters and gives them ample time to grow. I hope every now and then they throw something in to keep interest up because you can only live of a massive budget for so long.
Sooo......maybe Wanda isn't controlling all of this but just using it for her benefits?
I have a very hard time liking this show. It's just the fifth episode but already the first I quit watching half way through.
This was all so incredibly not funny. Every attempt at humor landed flat on its behind. And that's not taking into account the fact that the writing is so predictable (for the part where they switched bodies and what happened next).
Maybe I watch the rest of the episode later but for now I'm just not interested in how this plays out.
Can you imagine the storm that will break loose when Leif and Harald find out what Harekr has done ?
I hope I won't have to wait until season three to see that.
At some point in the future I will watch all this again as I'm sure I'm missing things. But it was amazing to see how everything came together into a spectacular finale that felt like a season ending episode.
Yeah, this one was hitting the brakes a little bit. Still a good episode and for sure no reason throwing the towel on this show.
We see a lot of Marnes pain about the loss of Major Jahns. Which was good for the character but I don't think it needed multiple scenes for that. We also delve into Juliette's past and learn how she got to Below. Which was again good context for the character.
I don't know where I stand with Marnes. He seems to be riding two horses and the final scene kinda confirms it might have been him who was the target for the murder. Or whoever ordered the hits wanted both dead ?
I do hope so he doesn't get killed, too, because I like Will Patton a lot.
What was the point of all of this I wonder ? But I love the way Olaf died, kind of being crucified.
I would have switched the first two episodes to be honest as this is a far better season premiere. And with the final shot than leading into Omega's confinement and that new facility location makes more sense to me.
It's a nice jab at fandom but this was really awful.
That was a convenient way to solve the Darksaber issue. A bit too convenient if you'd ask me. But those final scenes couldn't safe the episode from basically just being a constructed, unessessary and boring sub plot to provide guest roles for some well known names. And they were not even great characters. With only eight episodes per season they really should not waste time on those things.
The one question this episode raised for me is: could have been Mandalorians that freed Gideon after all if so many of them became mercenaries ?
I really don't like Olaf but the actor playing him I do. And I really hope that Ælfgifu is not repeating her mistake of trusting him.
Not really many surprises here otherwise. Both revelations of the boy actually being a girl and the true intensions of the Jomsvikings were obvious.
I wonder how Godwin will react now that the Queen has killed (yes, she did) Aelfwynn.
So, this show that splits opinions to both ends of the spectrum. Why am I not surprised ?
I see some issues with it but in general I like it, it's entertaining. Everyone who doesn't like it can just stop watching. Simple as that.
The animation is crazy good, some of the Monsters look great. I already like Val and Fritz. Some jokes where better than others. Overall I'd say this shows promise.
And ABC just cancelled after five episodes.
To be honest, I expected this after the first episode. Watched it because of Katey and I do like it. But I understand that it gets no traction with viewers. It isn't a clear cut drama because of all the comedy elements. It is also not funny enough to be a comedy. And it shouldn't be with a topic like that. So it tries too much to pull in viewers from different angles. Maybe if they had focused on the dramatic aspects it could have survived. Acting wasn't bad, I liked seeing Katey again.
Let's see if they at least manage some kind of ending.
Without a single flying scene this is still one of the best of the series. Because it takes you on a personal level with the characters. There is stark contrast between the pilot recreation and what happened simulatiously in Germany. But that makes each even stand out more.
I will never claim to understand what these men went through. The pressure they were subjected to, physically and mentally, was immense. Just like with BoB I think it's important to show us why they endured it and how.
The show delivers it's message without poking your nose in it. And that's a rareity today.
Maybe I should stop watching movies all together.
There I was, about to invest three hours into a movie about a man I thought to be one of the most interesting characters in human history, and it left me totally underwhelmed. In fact, I quit at the 2:20 hour mark.
This is not "The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer's role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II." This was more about american communist paranoia, about political intrique then it was about a build up to an event that changed the world. And even that, the Trinity test, was a massive dissapointment to lock at. It didn't look like an atomic explosion but rather just a giant gasoline fire, which it probably was. No fascination or awe or even fear, on my part about the power of nature they just unleashed. Why not make a movie about the project, the challenges, the difficulties when all you can show us of Oppenheimer is - what really ? What did he actually do, what were his contibutions other then sitting in meatings and hearing others talk.
I would like to say the acting was great but I can't as there are hardly scenes where anyone has more then two lines of dialogue in a row. Or longer scenes at all for that matter. You try to put yourself in one scene and it switches to the next, and the next and so on. Add to that jumping throught timelines and you can be left utterly confused. Which will probably be the reason it get's tons of Oscar's.
For me it's a soulless, lifeless and, dare I say it, boring movie stuffed with a massive cast that seemed so wasted on this.
Whenever you´ve had a bad day try a Muppet movie. Works for me every time.
A very good first half of the finale with some unexpected twist. Although I was wondering why the Batch never entertained the idea of infiltrating as regular troopers. Now I know.
Very cool to see Krennic and the mention of Project Stardust.
Of course we all know what they are building.
This is where it pays off to watch the chronological order.
Interesting to see how the Empire use the academies to identify possible Force sensitive children. Makes perfect sense as at this point in time the Emperor surely knows there are many potential Jedi still out there. Really good world building.
While the production itself is still very good the second season just wasn't as exciting as the first one. I feel like I've treaded water the whole time, waiting for a ship to come to pick me up. But it never came.
While the arc for Freydis did somewhat close out within the season, both Harald and Leif fell in the background. They were pretty much traveling on the Love Boat to Konstantinopel for most of the season. It all seems to be kind of a precursor for things to be happen next season. But I wonder if we really needed a whole season to be prepare for that.
Well, time will tell. But while I was very exciting after the first season I'm less so after this one.
So, the Jomsvikings are no different than the rest. Do what we tell you or else. And they probably just want Freydis as a symbol so they can attract more people.
But those boat tour is gonna become very interesting very soon I'd say.
You have to be a huge fan of Mike Myers and his style of humor. It wasn't producing big laughs for me but it's actually smart below the surface. Could have been a better movie instead of mini series. But if you watch it a couple episodes at a time it's not a strain to get to the end. Which was actually not bad.
I do understand the low ratings. It sure won't become a favorite show of mine. I must say, though, I find the Canada / US comparisons are good.
I'd say they captured the essence of GoT pretty well. The other two I don't know.
And an Emmy, or even dozens of it, doesn't determine if I like a show or not.
I had kind of forgotten this show is still out there but I'm glad it's back. Can't explain why but I really like the way the characters are drawn.
Minus that anoying "old school" engineer and her exchange with Stamets I liked this episode. I think that conversation, althought it's topic was valid, was a little bit to imposed.
And they are trying now to explain things like how Kirk's Enterprise hadn't all that shiny techy stuff. And my guess is that ultimately they will abandon the whole jump drive and forbid it's use ever again. Which could explain why it never was used later but would still leave an explanation as to why no one ever talked about it.
Saru's story does interest me a lot more now than what happened to Spock. I think it's a bit annoying they dangled Spock in front of the audience like a carrot and it now seems he will be a ghost possibly up to the last (couple ?) episode (s). And it would be nice if they do a follow up to the Sphere and it's possible origins.
In any case, I recognize the effort they are taking.
That episode really turned on it's heels with the revelation of who's behind the hacks. That saved it, because I was really groaning when Hannah, just like nothing happened, broke into that building. Nicely writen.
The rest was rather boring. The storyline about the judge - useless, unless there will be something at a later time. And, of course, another Kirkman-saves-the-day moment where a solution to an unsolvable problem comes out of nowhere.
