33 | Thor is reckless and unwise. He is just a boy who pretends as a king. This film tried to show us the transformation of Thor Odinson from a boy to a man. But, unfortunately, it was not land perfectly. His character development seems rushed and contradicted his character.
In only weeks he changed so much without a moment of reflection on his mistakes in the past. Since Thor heard the terrible news from Loki his personality suddenly switch. Because of how sudden it is Thor seems more like an unemotional being. He is just like a robot who could be programmed by a computer with a fast click.
Not only Thor who has a bad development, Loki too. How could he self-proclaimed as a king without a council meeting or at least a discussion from several people who helped Odin run Asgard as a realm? A place as big as the earth should have many people involved to help Odin govern Asgard, but instead, Asgard seems like an empty kingdom.
This film showed us many people on Thor's big day, but then they just vanished and willingly accept Loki as a king. Asgard repeatedly said as a great big realm but we could not feel the nuance of the realm itself. The people of Asgard felt so staged and faked. This film failed to convince us that this realm has life.
Thor felt like an oversimplified film for kids' audiences. It is okay to do that. This film is part of MCU, of course, the executive producers and the investors want to create a large number of audiences. So they make the story easy for anyone to understand.
The hard thing when making a film is to choose to make a high-quality film or high profitable film. The people behind this film have already chosen their decision and we should respect it.

The Revisit the MCU Project (2021) #4 of 23
Just about everything with Thor is good. Very good sound, an amazing casting job where just about every actor does a good job, and it looks rather good, If only the story hadn't let it a bit down, this would be a classic.
First and foremost, this movie is filled to the brim with great actors. Casting Hemsworth as Thor has to be the best decision any casting agent has ever done, and just about every role is filled with the perfect actor for the role. Not many movies can boast that.
Second...The visuals and sound are very good when you think about the fact that this movie is actually close to 10 years old. I can still remember when I first saw Asgaard and Bifrost.
And then...we have the story. At first, it's a straight-up origin story, and a good one at that, but then it goes on a tangent that doesn't work that well. It almost ends up a mix between a small-town comedy and a romantic drama. I wish they would have gone for something more...epic.
Don't get me wrong though...Thor works rather well despite the shortcomings of the story. It's highly entertaining for the most part, and it has that glint in the eye we all love about most of the MCU movies. I almost enjoyed this rewatch as much as when I saw it the first time in the cinemas. To me, Thor ranks up there with the best of them...almost.
THE WACPINE OF ‘THOR’

The Good:
Thor holds a special place in my heart. This was the first MCU film I ever saw and it made Thor one of my favourite superheroes. His first solo film is not his best one, but it's a great mix of Norse mythology, science fiction and superhero action.
The first act effectively sets up Asgard and its inhabitants and gives us basic context, without feeling too heavy on exposition. The scenes set on Earth are the truly interesting and funny bits, as we see Thor having to accept his newfound situation.
I love the mix of futuristic technology and Norse history in the production design of this film. It gives Asgard a distinct look while fitting perfectly with the visual style of the rest of the franchise.
Chris Hemsworth is both dashing and funny as the Thunder God while Tom Hiddleston is spot-on as his devious half-brother Loki. It is Hiddleston's performance here and in The Avengers that makes him one of the better film villains of all time. Anthony Hopkins was born to play the mighty and booming Odin and fits that role perfectly.
Stellan Skarsgård, Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings make for a wonderful sidekick trio. They are among my favourite supporting characters in any MCU film so far. Portman is so sweet with Hemsworth and captures both the clever and beautiful side of Jane well. They have better on-screen chemistry than almost any other MCU couple.
All supporting characters are used well, particularly the Asgardians headed by Lady Sif during the battle with the Destroyer. The climactic sequence between Thor and Loki is tense and dramatic and contains some of the best actings the MCU has seen.
The Bad:
Despite its interesting mix of fantasy and science fiction, Thor isn't as memorable or exciting as Thor: Ragnarök or as dark and moody as Thor: The Dark World. The script builds up a threat slowly and remains predictable throughout.
Like Iron Man 2 before it, this is another slower film, focusing more on Thor's journey than superhero action. The build-up is so slow you barely notice it.
Kenneth Branagh is not an action movie director, which shows in the way he chooses to focus on the characters in an almost Shakespearian tale rather than typical superhero action. It makes the film somewhat slow at times but doesn’t affect the overall enjoyment much.
Unlike Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, who was introduced in and well used throughout Iron Man 2, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye is nothing else than a pointless cameo that adds nothing to this film.
The Ugly:
Frost Giants that look like White Walkers from Game of Thrones.
WACPINE RATING: 8.00 / 10 = 4 stars

This movie is extremely underrated because people judge it as a Marvel movie, so they expect a lot of action and they are disappointed when they see that for most of the movie, Thor doesn't even have his powers.
Many people dislike this movie because of the lack of action but it has the best character development out of all the other Marvel movies that focus on a character. No other Marvel character has evolved as a person in one movie as much as Thor has in this movie.
At the beginning of the movie, Thor has a really big ego since he is only interested in action, fame and glory, and he would rather kill people than save people so at this point, he is not really a true superhero, just a warrior who wants to fight.
The reason why Odin takes away Thor's powers is because that is the only way for him to become more humble and to grow into the responsible adult that his father wants him to be.
And of course, many people would say that Thor shouldn't be this way to begin with but they forget that his father was the king of Asgard, so he was raised in similar conditions as the rich kids of our world, and those kids tend to let it go to their head and they start to think like they are better than everyone else. And I am not relying on something that I read, but my own experiences to claim such things because I spent 4 years around rich kids in middle school.
It was only when Thor lost his powers and became as weak as a human that he realized his vulnerabilities and that is when he became more humble and less focused on his ego.
Another thing that I love about that movie is that at the end, you can see that Thor has evolved so much as a person that he can be viewed as a hero when he stops Loki from destroying Jotunheim completely. But the thing is that Loki is doing the exact same thing that the former Thor from the beginning of the movie would have been willing to do. The main difference between Thor and Loki is that Thor is the only one between the two who grows as a character because he is the only one who is punished by Odin.
This movie shows that it is not the costume and the hammer that makes Thor a superhero, but it is what he does with those things. In the beginning, he was a selfish warrior, and in the end, he became a selfless hero who was willing to sacrifice his own life for the safety of other people even though he knew that without his powers, he wouldn't be able to win.
What is interesting when looking at the Disney+ Loki series (which came out 10 years after this movie) is that when Loki is punished by the TVA, he also learns a lesson and grows as a hero just like Thor did in this movie.
