We discuss how we think a "Console Olympics" might work in this silly extra-animated short, using a conversation from our Extra Breakfast show over on http://twitch.tv/ExtraCredits . Big thanks to the Warframe communities own Taylor King for being such a fantastic guest.

Special 27 D&D One-Shot Announcement

  • 2020-09-07T04:00:00Z42m

Welcome to the return of Extra Politics! We'll be examining different problems in our political systems for the next 4 weeks, right up until the election. We're using the lens of game design to understand how our political systems are constructed, how certain mechanics interact, and what patch notes might be helpful for the future. First up: social media. We all know that misinformation is rampant online but how does that impact our democracy? What can we do to try and fix bot farms? Is there any way to start valuing more valid sources of information over things that get clicks like fear and outrage?

Most systems that give unilateral control to a single person tend to include some pretty steep penalties if that person abuses their power. So what if the president misbehaves? What are the systems in place to try and prevent presidential corruption? The answer is... they are few and far between. With Unitary Executive Theory, there is very little incentive for the president NOT to abuse power. After all, most of the committees responsible for oversight work for the president and can be dismissed for any reason, creating a large conflict of interest. Then there's the presidential pardon which greatly incentivizes loyalty to the president. So we have some more patch notes.

When we talk about voting rights and voter suppression, what are the actual legal guarantees for voting? There has to be something in the constitution that makes sure every American has a right to vote. Isn't there? ... There isn't??? This seems like a huge design oversight. What can we do to patch it?

We've gone over some exploits in the American political system but honestly... It could be a lot worse. Here are some of the bugs/exploits that exist RIGHT NOW that people haven't taken advantage of yet.

Remember the PS5 preorder fiasco? Matt & Will try and break down what happened with an extended analogy.

The Extra Credits gang plays Dungeons and Dragons! We promised a D&D stream as an incentive during an April charity stream and here are the results. The gang played through an original one-shot written by community manager Arthur G, featuring acid caves, feeble fungus, and dead gods. The game was run using Fantasy Grounds for maps and play; and D&D Beyond for character sheets and to let people keep track during the stream. Both groups were extremely kind and generous so show 'em some love!

We had Dr. Erin Macdonald, guest writer for EC, over for breakfast and we couldn't help but put her knowledge of astrophysics to the test. So what is stronger? ____ or a black hole?

Because the first one went so well, we just had to bring it back for another adventure. The Extra Credits gang plays Dungeons and Dragons! We promised a D&D stream as an incentive during Matt's Birthday April charity stream and here are the results! The gang played through an original one-shot written by community manager Arthur G, a murder mystery most foul. The game was run using Talespire for maps and play; and D&D Beyond for character sheets and to let people keep track during the stream. All groups were extremely kind and generous so show 'em some love!

After our lovely Vlad the Impaler series, how could we say no to creating a full day dedicated to the dwellers of the darkness, drinkers of blood, the eternal VAMPIRE? We'll be running double creature feature, starting with a taste of Dracula on So You Haven't Read followed by a tabletop one-shot to celebrate the Month of Darkness & 30th Anniversary of Vampire: the Masquerade run by the amazing Jasmine Bhullar ( @ThatBronzeGirl )! So mark your calendars for October 20th, join us here on youtube at 1:30pm EST and on http://twitch.tv/ExtraCredits at 7:30pm EST for a special Vampire Extravaganza See you then!

**This video may have adult themes and language. Viewer discretion is advised** Join the undead iterations of Matt, SVP, Arthur & special guests Jennifer Kretchmer and Jasmine Bhullar in this Vampire: The Masquerade one-shot: “The Heist”. This game was played live on our Twitch channel during last month's World of Darkness “Month of Darkness” event and we’re so excited to now share it with all of you here!
