Take a peek into one of my all-time favorite vegan restaurants: Great Sage in Clarksville, Maryland. Not only is the food amazing (the spinach artichoke dip is to die for), but the atmosphere and the mood of the restaurant is warm, friendly, peaceful, and a fabulous place to bring meat-eating friends. They often have benefits to support Farm Sanctuary and other organizations like PCRM, and have some great videos and bumper stickers available for sale there. If you're ever in Maryland be sure to stop by--you won't be disappointed!
During my trip to Maryland, I had the pleasure of staying at a good friend's vegan farm house. I got to take the sheep out in the morning, play with the chickens, feed the animals and more. What fun! I took some video to share my day on the farm with all of you...I hope you enjoy!
In this episode I'm taking you to Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary's first annual Toast to the Turkey's event. Harvest Home is a safe place for abused, abandoned or injured domestic and farm animals. Killing beautiful birds for a meal betrays the life-affirming spirit of thanksgiving, so Harvest Home is starting a new tradition of meeting turkeys instead of eating them!
In this Vegan Break episode, I review Erik Marcus's book Meat Market: Animals, Ethics & Money. I highly recommend this book to vegans and omnivores alike. It's a must-read for anyone who wants to see change in this world happen as fast as possible.
This year I spent Thanksgiving with my family and we prepared a feast of vegan dishes. Here I'll show you how we prepared the centerpiece dish--a hollowed pumpkin filled with a rice medley. You'll also get some great ideas fro ways to incorporate compassion into your Thanksgiving. For example, each year we symbolically adopt a turkey from Farm Sanctuary and place the adoption certificate in the center of the table and give a nice toast to the turkeys. Enjoy!
