I thought this was absolutely brilliant. The ambivalence in the story paired with the great satire of the filthy rich and self-obsessed it’s just... chef’s kiss :kissing::ok_hand:
There are no words to describe just how meaningful Folklore is to me, personally, and I wouldn’t want to do it in the trakt comment section anyways, but I just want to say this one thing: Thank you, Taylor.
this whole show just honestly feels like a treat for the fans who've watched every little thing in the MCU, and even more so I imagine for fans of the comics. It's the MCU "offspring" that's felt the most like "this is for the fans!!" and not as much a "you can consume this movie/show on its own so don't be turned off by all the movies that came before!" type thing. I love it, it makes me feel so proud to understand every single movie reference.
SAM WILSON SIR...... HAND IN MARRIAGE PLEASE??????????????
okay so now that my proposal is out of the way (i love sam wilson), a couple of things:
kind of upset they killed Karli and gave that Walker asshole a semi redemption arc where he saves a bunch of people instead of getting revenge... it made me gag. I hate him (really do not care about that USAgent crap unless it's to write him off eventually). Even if Karli IS dead, the Flag Smashers storyline was surprisingly well done, they really gave them more voice and more respect than I thought they would. It is a very worthy cause and incredibly relevant as of right now, with the current migrant crisis - having Sam see the good in it and defend them in that incredible speech was pleasantly surprising. That was truly the highlight of the episode - when he told those powerful world leaders that the helplessness they felt against Thanos is the same helplessness the underprivileged feel against them every day... that HIT HARD (Anyone who's been paying attention knows Thanos was always the stand in for dictators and imperialists, but it's great that they've finally driven the point home). Anthony Mackie did a great job this whole season, Sam Wilson is the perfect Captain America (did I mention I love him?). Bucky took a little bit of a backseat which is totally fine, he's had more screentime in the films over the years, it feels balanced. Sebastian and Anthony's chemistry is undeniable, I hope we get a second season or a film cus they're too good to waste.
The Power Broker reveal... everyone and their mothers saw it coming, bit underwhelming. I'm interested to see what they do with Sharon's character now, she's incredibly hot as a rogue spy criminal boss lady.
Also, beyond Sam's speech, the scene with Isaiah at the museum sent chills all up my spine. This show is really important for the current moment we've living in. Marvel did great. PLEAAAASE give me a second season.
I cried from start to finish watching this. I'm gonna miss this show so much, these characters had potential for a freaking Grey's-Anatomy-long run. I hate this world.
This is the most wholesome Wong film I’ve watched so far. The second story made me so happy for some reason. His movies are often depressing and sad and claustrophobic but this one felt like a rom-com in comparison and a rom-com directed by Wong kar-wai is something that must be seen.
Holy hell!!!!!!! Literally lol
After a banger of a season this was the perfect episode to wrap it all up, with a bow (i mean major cliffhanger) on top. This show's so freaking entertaining, I'm so happy it got renewed seriously!
I just love the simplicity of this movie, how unpretentious and raw it is. Just real emotion, real struggle, real nitty gritty work. The almost documentary feeling is coupled with breath taking scenery and cinematography to make for the most serene, beautiful, intense film. It's so refreshing to see a story about two gay men that doesn't revolve around their sexuality, but instead focuses on their personality traits - Gheorghe's romanticism, Johnny's fear of real emotion or commitment. As characters they really bring out the best in each other and it's so beautiful to watch. It's a love story, that happens to be between two men. Not once is their sexuality an issue for them, or the people around them. I just LOVE Josh O'Connor though, hope to see him in more stuff soon.
9,6/10
IVE FINALLY WATCHED THIS!!!! I think it's the movie that's been on my watchlist the longest. It definitely did not disappoint, I was entertained and captivated from start to finish, but those last 30 minutes were breath taking. Absolutely loved it.
9.8/10
The most exciting stage of a (fictional) relationship for me personally is exactly the one encapsulated in this chapter of the trilogy. Forget the nerves and ingenuity of a new relationship, i want the angst and the high tension of a past love that didn't work out but is on the verge of a reunion. I'm obsessed with the way this pair of actors explores the different levels of chemistry, applied to each different stage of the chatacters' relationship - it's subtle, but you notice it just enough to make it feel whole and real but still more exciting and dramatic than real life, (which is what we always look for in movies, right?) without ever crossing the bridge to cringiness, which is always the big risk in romantic movies. The dialogues, as always, were an incredibly entertaining chess match to follow, but by far my favourite part is Céline's outburst of emotion in the car, just so so good. That ending has to be one of my favourite endings to a movie ever. I'm obsessed. First one was a solid 9, this one's a good 9,5. Let's see what the third instalment has got!
im too dumb for this show honestly, but all i know is that im having the best time ever watching this season, it's just so fun and creative
the writers/directors decided to have as much fun as possible on their very last season and it’s marvellous (pun intended). it must be awesome being on this set!
This show had its ups and downs but this final season made up for it all. Bringing everything back from the very first season, tying it all together, putting Annalise properly front and centre, bringing the show back to the courtroom where it belongs, turning everyone against one another, ruining relationships and building new ones. Killing Asher, Bonnie and Frank is ruthless and painful after you've followed them for 6 whole seasons but it wouldn't be HTGAWM without high stakes, pain and shocking deaths. Absolutely loved everything about this ending, especially Annalise getting her happy ending with my girl Tegan. Been watching this show since day one, gonna miss it, and gonna miss Viola Davis' Annalise Keaing especially - one of the greatest characters of all time, portrayed by arguably the best actor of our generation. Goodbye How To Get Away With Murder, thank you for the wild ride!!
Finally got around to watching this gem! It’s such a beautiful depiction of this community of people, and you can tell that it’s made with so much care and empathy for the stories they had to tell. It’s less of a plot film and more a collection of slices of life which, put together, paint a beautiful picture that transcends the screen for an immersive and emotional viewing experience.
This is exactly the kind of film that moves me. Equal parts simple and intentionally imperfect, focusing on an universal human experience of not knowing what the fuck we’re doing.
I do agree that I would have loved to have more of Julie being single - when she breaks up with Aksel she says that the big issue is that she doesn’t think she can stand on her own and that’s why they need to separate, only to then immediately enter into another relationship. I guess in the end we see that she has indeed found peace in herself, no appendices, but I think it would have been great to see more of that.
Above all, I relate heavily to Julie and am really glad this film exists.
AHHHHHHHHH BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON!!!! classic this is us tear-jerking episode, ive been needing one of those.
works even better as a rewatch! you truly see the genius of it once you know the ending and can look for clues.
“Why did you take that washing powder?”
“It’s biological.”
And I believe in Caitríona Balfe supremacy.
im not ready to say goodbye whatsoever:sob:
The greatest performer of this generation, and to me, personally, of all time. Beyoncé's a FORCE. But this documentary shows that she's human too and that made it all the more brilliant. No one compares.
Pride Month 1 film a day challenge:
#2
Where do I even start with this film.................................................... Gosh it's so lovely, it's making me want to cry.
I'm gonna have to do bullet-points cus there's so much i want to talk about.
The fact that this film is based on a novel written by a woman, it's written for screen by two women, directed by a woman, and has two incredible female leads.
The way it gets w|w love so perfectly right (probably due to reasons explained in point 1). It's shown through subtle looks and growing tension, through friendship, understanding and romance. The characters fit so well together. Each of them is a complex, multifaceted, well built character with their own struggles and strength, and they each bring out the best in one another. Jean helps Lydia see her worth, helps her see she can stand on her own. Lydia helps Jean let herself go, conquer her past and breathe out.
Charlie and the bee subplot - honestly amazing. This film said gay rights and bee rights and literally that's all we, the human race, should care about too. The recurring idea of a beehive being composed of mostly females, living in perfect harmony. The recurring theme of bees listening to you, and keeping your secrets. The way Charlie finds purpose in keeping them. The way the bees freaking save the day!!!!!!!!! Oh my god... a dream literally a dream.
Still on Charlie: the way the film destroys toxic masculinity with the figure of his absent father and the way he tells Charlie he needs to be a man, just because he cares about nature.
Annie's subplot: telling yet another woman's story, and adding a interracial relationship too. The scene where they force her miscarriage is haunting and really drives the point of how little women could dictate their own lives then home.
The photography!!!!!! Rural Scotland's a breathtakingly beautiful scenery, but there are countless gorgeous shots all around (when Jean's watching Lydia take a bath........................................... and she looks back......................... poetic cinema).
The only reason I'm not giving this a 10 is, whilst i understand the ending, i still don't think there was a big enough reason for them to end up apart. Just let them be together for god's sake.
9/10
Do you mean the greatest romantic movie of all time?
10/10
I mean... Sort of wasted my time here but a bitch’s gotta watch at least some 2020 releases.. no, seriously, the performances are pretty good, but that’s about it. boring story with nothing but absolute misery.
if i met dev patel in glasses while waiting for a job interview, i too would have fallen in love at first sight
Very uninspired third act ruins what was building up to be a rather decent and reflective story with striking visuals to match. The end reduced it to another soulless action flick with a generic bad guy with daddy issues, a himbo and his lady friend who barely gets her time in the sun (literally). Disappointing.
So Pixar are just gonna give me a film with sea monster as allegory for being gay and expect me not to develop an insane attachment to it? This is really really a happy place for me. One day we’ll have the real thing, but for now we have Luca:green_heart:
I've been a fan of Taylor's music for a long time but for a while I refrained myself from being too vocal about my support for her as a person, because it wasn't cool and we were all supposed to think this and that about her and if you didn't you were labelled all sorts of things, so instead of defending her i just didn't say anything, and enjoyed her music outside of that sphere of drama and controversy. But with Taylor it's really hard to fall in love with her music and not instinctively fall in love with her too, because everything that she is she puts into those songs, those lyrics, those melodies, so if you love her music then that means you love her, and i soon figured that out. The way she's grown and become more vocal about everything we all already thought she had in her is really inspiring and, in my opinion, what she needed to fully become an icon, because icons have to stand for something and help change history with their platform, which is music, which happens to be the wider reaching form of art there is in this world. I'm so so happy she's finally showing the world what she stands for, cus it's not hard to see that privately the values have been there from day one. I really never wanted this docu to end, i wanted it to have 3 hours. Fuck The Irishman, give me 3 and a half hours of Miss Americana instead.
oh the cruel realisation that you're getting too old for these types of movies
so im just supposed to go on with my life after this?????????
Moonlight’s basically my favourite film so I was really looking forward to watching Barry’s second feature and I’m sad it didn’t struck me as intensely as Moonlight did. I think much of it is due to the screenwriting which Barry contributed to but didn’t do by himself in Moonlight, unlike in this film which he wrote all on his own and for me, it was underwhelming. The pace was a bit off and dragged in some parts, but the story was still relevant. Now, what is undeniably Barry’s strong point is the beautiful way he shoots his films, and what i feel will become his signature slow motion close ups. The love story was beautiful, sure, but i feel like the issue the film deals with deserved something more dramatic. But still, I quite liked it.
