VIP8John Krasinski has proven to have a decent level of craftsmanship behind the camera but this movie proves that he should be kept away from screenwriting.
I’m really surprised at a lot of the positive reviews because the plotting and beats in this movie are super dumb. There is a small hint at the level we are working at when we are with Krasinski on “Day 1” where we get a small peek at life before the aliens came and they make a choice to drop in an Easter egg reference to the toy spaceship that gets his child killed from the first one. It’s a seemingly innocuous little call back, foreshadow, wink, knudge, whatever, but it is a perfect example of the types of choices made in this movie. I mean not to ruin anything but essentially an alien pilots a boat in this film. Overall it just bugged me.

@jimdarko "essentially an alien pilots a boat in this film. Overall it just bugged me."
Hey Google, what's "Ocean Current"
LMFAO dude, you just seem to want to hate this movie if you're using that obvious strawman to bash it. hahaha
I got the feeling that the entire series is made to try to justify that scene on the ship, and yet it absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. The explanation that it was the only way to get the hard drive is completely ridiculous. With all the current technology, the author has to be really clueless to think that the best way to obtain that hard drive is by assembling, in 6 days, a gigantic version of an experimental technology still in testing, and have it work.

Read the book, my guy. The show directors absolutely butchered the explanation of why they used the nano wires.
In short, even if the wires sliced the drive, it would still be able to be repaired since it would be such a clean and straight slice. All the other methods would too slow (giving them time to destroy the drive themselves, as Mike Evans almost did in the show), or too destructive and render the drive beyond repair.
It sucks when the author has such great ideas, and the show directors try to dumb them down to a toddler level. Read the book

@jimdarko Watch it again, an alien doesn’t actually drive a boat lol. It was just short scene where he moved it when he was on the front of it.
It was really no big deal.
i’m not liking this scenario where a lot of characters happen to meet in the same place, it feels very soapy, especially since it’s all happening in this one small town?? first it was the ‘queer night’ and then it was this little indie cinema?? no way

@cosmo-phire >especially since it’s all happening in this one small town?
This would make sense only if you had say "big city"

VIP7Anybody catch that blink and you'll miss it moment when the lights went off? The filter on the screens turned off and you could see the green grass, for just a split second. Wonder if anybody in the Silo noticed it.

@morphinapg Yeah they noticed, you could hear several people whisper things like "did you see that?" after it happened.

I think everyone noticed. It’s an important plot point.
Well, this show is inspired by, not heavily influnced by the game as the show runners stated. The changes they made here are some of the worst ones so far. So, now Joel aparently is a believer in the vaccine and believes that Marlene knows what she's doing and if she says there is a chance for Ellie to save humankind then there definitely is. I almost laughed out loud here. To people who never played the game, people like me saying "well they did so and so in the game" is probably not something they want to hear over and over again, so I won't say a lot of that here. What I will say though is that Joel as a character does not worm up to Ellie until a later event happens. He shows that by uttering one very famous and scarce line in the game that everyone who played the game had misty eyes when they heard Joel saying them to Ellie. Here, even if he says something similar to Ellie, won't have the same effect as it did in the game. People saying the show is better than the experience and the story in the game, I am pretty sure have not played the game. To people that are witnessing this story for the first time through the show, I will say this: Play the game. It is 5 times better.

@Totimoshi He gradually warms up to her. Even in the game, once they reach the power plant they've already been together for months, exchanging high fives and trusting each other. Replay the game and refresh your memory.
