A good premise let down by awful character development and dialogue. This monster show revolves too much around family drama.
7 episodes in and I'm about to drop this. The story has become increasingly boring with a lot of sidetracking and bad dialogue. The 10 seconds of interesting sci-fi stuff is not saving this show. They're stretching it way too thin.
I was never excited for this show, I am not a monster-verse fan, I think most of their movies are mediocre.
But when I heard this is a tv show I was kinda intrigued, they had more room to try something new. This show has incredible potential considering the premise. It was a massive let down for me, and its pretty hard to disappoint someone who wasn't even excited for it in the first place.
Characters are shallow, the acting is cheesy and the main characters are too dramatic, for a monster show this feels more like a reality tv show, with all the unnecessary drama. Plot is way too basic, they had great potential to make this into a mystery show but failed terribly. The comedy is all over the place and flat-out cringe.
I don't feel like putting in much effort to write a more expanded review so I'm just gonna leave it here.
Couldn't stand it after the first couple of episodes. I think the show is very slow. The plot didn't feel interesting to me. Might be personal opinion but after watching 7 episodes, it didn't change. I'm out!
If you go in expecting there to be a lot of monster on monster action, then let me tell you this , it's a huge disappointment. In the 5 episodes that I have watched there is hardly 2-3 mins of monster action.
The acting is sub par , character development is weak. It's like a soap opera , where in every new episode they bring up a new topic.
Update (12/01/2024) : Just finished watching the finale. This show should've been called Monarch : Siblings with Daddy Issues.
The trailer was super misleading . And this was an utter disappointment. In the 10 episodes , there's probably only 10mins of monster action. This is a family drama , not a sci-fi series.
Mediocre at best, a solid meh.
Started off alright, but now it’s just yawn.
The acting is particularly flat, borderline shocking in areas and the dialog is woeful.
I feel like I’m watching a handful of wood planks walk round aimlessly bumping into things for no particular reason talking about there eyeroll emotions.
And to top it off it’s just a drama fest concerned with mainly the female aspect, the male characters are just stand in’s or bait with exception of Russel, but he just seems to be a plot mechanic to drive the story along.
Too put it plainly, it’s not interesting, compelling or every remotely intellectual.
Essentially it’s just a big dull standard drama with a Godzilla skin. Typical Apple.
after two episodes, the series feels very weak. The pace is slow and the acting bad.
I was close to stop watching the show after the first three episodes. Everyone seemed to be a self-absorbed rich asshole, the show itself seemed to be going nowhere. But I'm so glad I didn't stop watching. Episode five was the first one where I thought "Oh, maybe it isn't so bad after all." It only improved afterwards. With all the schemes, backstabbing, and generally horrible people it's basically Game of Thrones set in 2018 New York. Succession is probably the best show on TV at the moment. I can't wait for season two.
Interesting premise. Of course Netflix had to stuff it with nonsense to drag this onto an 8 episode snoozefest. This could have been a great 90 minute movie, if they trimmed all the rubbish off.
The first five episodes have a lot of padding. We get a good idea of the premise during the pilot. Then they beat around the bush until the fifth episode. After the 5th episode, the "science-fiction" part comes into play and things pick up speed. It's brilliant from that point onwards.
Meh. I'm not impressed. Not at all.
After 2 seasons, i'm fairly enjoying this adaptation, it's not perfect but overall a good tv show.
I wouldn't read the books anyway because i can't stand how Asimov (and few classical sf authors too i guess) writes.
It's been a long time since I've seen a show's pilot this bad. It doesn't do the rest of the series justice and I'm sure a lot of people have given up after watching it.
I tried one and a bit episodes of this. Unfortunately I had to turn it off I could not take the fact that people just seem to shout, it's constant shouting and it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience. I'm sure this is a wonderful show it's certainly not for me so if you want to listen to people shouting at each other constantly this seems to be where you go.
I absolutely loved loved and loved this. Just watch without reading too much into it.
i just don't get why people are loving this. acting is over the top, script is predictable. oh yes lets put a 56kg woman to work the machinery, while mr f**king ripped boss is just watching. 81%? imdb 8.4?
Annoying characters doing annoying infuriatingly stupid things
Starts superbly, first sheriff (Oyelowo) great character but dies too soon living a huge gap and his death really impacted audience and plot. Will Patton is reduced to a drunken fool dies too soon and we're left with Ferguson who is an ok actress but not a protagonist. Completely wasted Tim Robbins, as a side character until ep8. All plot, backstories and support characters are 100% NPCs. I couldn't care less if they live or die, including Nichols' early years. Boring snoozfest! After episode 3 SKIP to 8 and then watch the "revelation" on ep 9, which makes no differetin the overall pkot. As for the ending... Worse than Lost's. It's a wasteland, no it's not but it is, but it's not but it is. Total nonsense. 4/10
MODERATION EDIT: Keep the comment about the show and not about your political complaints.
Glad to see tradTrek (traditional Trek) is back! I miss this format and style of Star Trek.
Nothing wrong with the other nuTrek, they're all great on their own, but as someone who grew up watching Star Trek, the style of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT, have grown on me. It's more about the issues we are facing today, in real life, as well as meaningful life realizations. Picard is like that but it is more about Jean-Luc. Discovery is like that but it is more about the conflict and the characters.
But tradTrek is different. The approach is to let the audience relate and think of the world around them.
Best of all, finally, we have a Captain Pike canon series! We seriously lack canon materials around Pike and his time with the Enterprise and it has been requested since the 90s. Finally! Let me say that again, FINALLY!
This is great news for us Justified fans. Can't wait, hope it's as good as the original show.
I gave up at episode 6, it started out really well with an intriguing premise, but as others have said many times, it is incredibly slow and just not that interesting.
Same as the others, how this is rated high is beyond me.
Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat, Rinse repeat...
Crap! Boring. Crap! Boring! Crap.
If it was AT LEAST 1 hour shorter it would've been much better. They streched it too far, it was my first time sleeping at the cinema. seriously, I took a good 20 min nap and missed some parts. And that wasn't just me, my friend did too lol. Overall it's not too bad but it really gets boring watching Jhon Wick fight for that long. I liked the characters and cinematography though. Especially that fire shotgun scene.
Biggest pile of poo violence, nonsense, and a total and utter lack of a script. Perfect for the brain-dead and the spotify generation. The trailer has the full plot. The movie is just an extremely stretched, violent music video.
The worst movie, it seems john Wick mashup fast and furious. Now he will be John Toretto Wick.
Typical action movie that bored me after 25minutes of viewing…. Not worth it…
The same story that makes no sense at all as in 3rd part, this time almost 3 hours long. And even action didn't do it for me, felt like a game in a God mode with nobody dying from bullets or car hits.
It only went downhill from part 1, which I loved. I hope this was the last part, at least for Keanu. I love the guy but he was so painfully slow, especially in compare to Donnie Yen. Who was the best part of this movie, by the way, just fantastic. He did an incredible job fighting in a "blind" style.
Disappointed by the decision to just turn it into a string of choreographed fight scenes.
This is one of the most idiotic movies ever made and the people who rated it higher than 6 are effing morons!!!
