Mini-update to my previous post for the show... It's AMAZING. Watch this NOW!! The show only got better and better (until it sadly ended... for now). This is definitely not your traditional shoujo show. It has a great mix of that light shoujo humor that we all love along with some great animated action and pretty serious moments/feels that parallel some very superb character development. I got so addicted to Akatsuki no Yona that I already read ahead in the manga before the last episode and now I’m just waiting for scantalations (aka suffering). The next parts in the manga after the conclusion of the first season are even better.
This was probably my most surprising anime of the season/s. While the romance isn't full blown, it develops and is hinted at with lots of curves thrown our way. While it's a long ways away, there are just a few moments every few episodes that just make you ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
My best comparison to this would be a more of a romantic shoujo version of Seirei no Moribito with its protecting theme and the bits of fantasy elements and world building developed throughout.
I can't recommend this enough. A very solid 8/10 from me and I have the manga at a 9/10 (I just might be on a Yona high though). I try to recommend it to everyone as it has been criminally underwatched (but it is building a lot of good word of mouth).
I'm pumped for the upcoming OVA. Hopefully, a second season is announced after the OVA comes out. And I need my new scantalations in the manga. Being ~30 chapters behind sucks :(
tl;dr - Watch Akatsuki no Yona. Now.

We're up to episode 7 with Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) and it has been one of the most pleasant surprises for me this season. Yona of the Dawn is being animated by Studio Peirrot and I know that they got a lot of flack for Tokyo Ghoul (among other shows), so I was a bit hesitant to start this. However, so far the pacing has been great and Peirrot has stayed faithful to the manga. The ancient setting is pretty cool and immersive, and later on adds an interesting fantasy element that gives Yona of the Dawn its own unique world. There is also a solid romantic element (and quite a struggle involving it along with many will they/won't they moments), very well-animated action & fighting scenesn (Hak is a beast), drama/feels, and some nice comedic moments spread throughout.
As I said before, the gradual pacing of the show has been great. Because of this well-done pacing, the main characters of Yona, Hak and Soo-Won have gotten great opportunities and scenes to shine, develop and uncover some deeper feelings and emotions that allow us really connect a lot more to their situations and struggles. Yona has been one of the better versions of an estranged princess that I've seen, and Hak has served as an excellent foil to her (while being a complete bad ass and a gentleman and scholar at the same time). Soo-Won has been portrayed as a deeper and more conflicted antagonist so far especially due to his childhood friendships with Yona and Hak. I really hope that they keep him that way instead of going full classic bad guy.
I believe at the moment, Yona of the Dawn is set to be at least 2-cour. I've greatly enjoyed the adventure that Yona and Hak have set out on so far and I'm really excited for the future characters and developments (can't spoil it) to come. Definitely check this show out if you are looking for a new adventure anime with a splash of romance, an ancient setting, a bit of a fantasy element, and plenty of strong characters to bring it all together. Here's hoping that Studio Pierrot doesn't screw this up.
Something like this comment was originally a reply to @Pedro, but I thought I'd put it here.
This show starts a little slow. It does that thing where the first few episodes are your typical boring cop procedural to show the network they know how to paint by numbers. Then it picks up.
It starts actually exploring the morals of mass surveillance, and (minor spoilers) it turns out the Machine is an AI, and they deal with all the interesting ramifications of living in a world secretly run by a benevolent(?) AI. One of the nice aspects of this show is the only fictional element of the Machine is software. Makes for a very grounded science fiction.
The characters start to deal with total corruption of the police system and attempt to take it down, meanwhile learning and redeeming themselves from their dubious past.
They also deal with taking down organised crime, and what to do when someone tries to consolidate power within the families, even though the new boss is less violent.
They get caught up in vast government conspiracies waging massive secret intelligence wars, and must stop innocent people from getting killed while remaining hidden from powerful people.
Heartbreak, romance, homoerotic sexual tension, SciFi, shooting people, explosions!
They stop making another cop show and start making some really compelling television.
This is one of the worst series of the last couple of years. The plot and the acting is as bad as it gets. Honestly it made me wonder about my tv addiction cause I gave it a chance for a complete season. 2 Eps into season 2 it got even worse and I bailed...
Well not having seen the Swedish series, I can say that I am really enjoying this show so far. Really can't see a lot of use comparing the two shows, as I'm sure they are both great shows in their own way. When this series is over, I'm sure if I take a look at the Swedish show I'll find it missing some of the things that I like in this version. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next episode and it's definitely on my watch list!
Am I the only one who thinks comedy/sitcoms were better in general when they didn´t grew on trees?
Up to today "The Nanny" still is one of my all time favs. Although you knew from the start of the show were it would lead, and although they were using about every possible cliché, the characters grew on me and I not only watched for the good comedy it was but to see how the story and the characters evolved.
Today, whenever I happen to find an episode running, and it is still running somewhere, I can´t resist to watch.
Gutted that there won’t be a second season really enjoyed this show, would be interesting to see how the relationships developed
got a little better overtime, had a nice season finale and... it was canceled.
NouCome has been a hilarious show so far that uses a great novel concept with the "absolute multiple choice" mechanism. Although a little like Date A Live (with the choices), NouCome takes it to the extreme as the 2 choices are usually completely insane, horrifyingly embarrassing, and raunchy at times. If Amakusa doesn't choose one, he gets a horrendous headache so it's literally do or die (of excruciating pain). Hilarity ensues not just from seeing Amakusa perform these acts, but also from the varied reactions from all the girls (and guys!!). The missions that are added later add even more interesting scenarios into the mix. I like the MC and the supporting females are solid but a bit stereotypical. However, this show is almost purely about the laughs. If you're looking for a solid comedy this season (with a tiny touch of romance), definitely check this out.
This show can be quite fun if you're not expecting much. It plays out the same jokes on the character's tropes in every episode again but that gets mixed up with the insane multiple choice questions our MC gets from God. I could have done without the sometimes excessive fanservice though. The ending is also rather meh but hey, ten episodes are not much to work with.
Slow-paced, but a show with breathtaking visuals. I enjoyed the ride despite a few shortcomings!
Good, even if it could have been a lot better and deeper.
I rather enjoyed this series and the characters although the overall plot felt rather directionless and it ultimately didn't amount to much. The relaxing atmosphere and likeable characters saw me through the series but it's probably not one that's worth a re-watch. Reminded me of Tari Tari.
Whilst I do like P.A. Works and their series do tend to look really nice, I am noticing a trend where a lot of them look and feel the same.
Complex and subtle humor, but if you get the Clement + McKenzie + Waititi humor, you will absolutely fall in love with this show. It's extremely charming and ridiculous. You'll be disappointed when you realize there were only two short seasons (by the way, this was because the guys were so worn out making the show, not because they got cancelled).
WHY WOULD YOU CANCEL THIS GREAT SHOW??
Charlotte started as just a funny show, however it got deeper and deeper with every episode. Totally recommended, action, mystery, comedy and romance. If you liked Heroes (American TV Show) you will like this one. One of the best of the season.
This is show is loud, stupid, obsessed with the military (thanks Michael Bay), buys into that American Exceptionalism nonsense, and explodes a lot (Bay).
It's also fucking great.
I can't explain why.
This should be called Pretty Little Plot Holes, actors are terribad and it's overall kinda boring and dumb but I will never stop watching it until they tell me WHO THE HELL A IS
Some wonderful characters, few great actors and the first half of season 3 was exceptional.
But overall I expected more and the show should have ended sooner.
Why the hate? It's a pretty piece of slice of life
This was a good "Slice of Life". The decent amount of cringyness and a lighthearted plot kept the entire thing in balance which resulted in this amazing show. Animation was also great. Although that midget god character was unnecessary.
I'm definitely hoping for another season or maybe an OVA :fingers_crossed:.
This was the best anime of Fall 2021 for me. The heart-warming comedy and the charming characters gained my attention from the very first episode. I will definitely recommend this to everyone.
This show is great but i feel like the younger years are what make this show
Season 1: meh
Season 2: huh
Season 3: Wow!
Paul Sun-Hyung Lee makes the show for me. He's hilarious.
I hated the ending. They should've gone with the alternate ending from the DVD box where it just shows how they met, and not what happened after. It should've ended on that train station.
Worst. Finale. Ever.
I'll walk myself out.
