Really interesting topic, but sadly the documentary maker doesn't have the first idea on how to make a good documentary, he seems more interested in appearing on screen himself, than asking relevant questions, following interesting avenues, or even just letting the story tell itself. There is almost nothing here that people who know the Bob Lazar story won't already be familiar with, but for anybody new to the subject, it is an OK (if rather one-sided) introduction.
It took me ten minutes to quit. The whole style is covered with "attract attention" and "sensationalism". Just one example: Why do I have to put a big reverb over an interview? That's why these documentary films are not taken seriously.
Now, do I believe in extraterrestrial life? Yes. Do I think they are already here? No.
I do not believe that you will find any serious answers here.
The worst documentary of my life. Waste of time, literally.
At least the poster looks good :person_shrugging:
Only cultist Trump supporters wouldn't find this funny. Hilarious AND it has some heart.
I was disappointed by the Marshal. I get the impression that the script had a very detailed caricature, and the actor reproduced that, when he should have thrown away the script and breathed life into the character. The Marshal comes off like a cartoon character, which would be fine if it were that kind of series, but it's not. All the other characters are dead serious and believable.
An awful episode but the last 3 minutes made up for everything, very well captured.
Till this episode the show had been less than what was expected
Great job from Frank on not retrieving the money when he was leaving the Yakuza. Everyone is very poor in those lands yet he leaves 46,000 on the table where he needs money to get out of the Pacific States.
Why the hell didn't Frank take the money back when Joe knock the Yakuza leader out ?!?
That ending with Frank being executed by Joe?? WTF is happening with the tapes?
Well if that wasn't just an ending that I didn't see coming.
Seriously Juliana and Joe are one of the worst main characters i've ever met. She is a stupid b*tch who cares more about everybody than her boyfriend. And Joe is just an a*shole. And its pretty obvious that they are gonna f*ck later. Disgusting.
I cant believe i like the Obergruppenführer more than them.
So this show turned into a science fiction show where they can go to an alternate universe ? I am confused
Spoiler for this episode ahead.
I have a question.
SPOILERWe saw in this episode one man in a castle who was watching one film of his film collection... and this man was Hitler. So does that mean, all this time the resistance was unknowingly collecting films for the enemy (him)?SPOILER END
So, it turns out that the man in the high castle is... well, I won't spoil it for those who have not seen it. But we saw just one guy who lived in a high castle and collected films.
Again, without spoiling, I think the ending was superb. I think the show out-Dicked Philip K. Dick. Dick suffered from schizophrenia, and so his feeling that the world was not real is a constant theme in his books. The changes the TV show made relative to the book actually improved the portrayal of an unreal reality, in my opinion.
For those who were left confused by the ending, consult the I Ching.
Wait now. If Joe was a Lebensborn baby, how in the world did he end up with brown hair? That would be genetically impossible to end up with the dominant trait from two recessive genes.
Roald Dahl was all about the imagination. This is all about the special effects.
And to be honest, there are some great special effects, occasionally about over the top (I did enjoy the witches mouths!).
But who cast Octavia Spencer as grandma? Or let Anne Hathaway use that accent?
Anne is the movie. Childish but watchable.
the ending was way too stuart little for me
A stupid movie for children. The plot is weak and not original. Why should the witches kill children? Why do they hate them?
THE WACPINE OF 'THE WITCHES (2020)'
WRITING: 5
ATMOSPHERE: 6
CHARACTERS: 7
PRODUCTION: 6
INTRIGUE: 5
NOVELTY: 4
ENJOYMENT: 6
The Good:
Octavia Spencer and Anne Hathaway keep this ship floating. Hathaway makes for a fine villainess, from her appearance to her accent. She makes the Grand High Witch distinctly her own and fits that role perfectly. Anne Hathaway is to this movie what Glenn Close is to the 101 Dalmatians live-action film from 1993.
The film follows the basic plot from the novel fairly closely, only making it slightly more action-packed for younger viewers.
The Bad:
The Witches has a beginning that feels very clumsy and tacked on somehow and fails to draw me into the world of Roald Dahl's classic novel.
The script changes the setting and period for no good reason and doesn't do anything interesting with the change.
Jahzir Bruno is unnatural in such a way that he takes me out of the experience altogether. All of the child actors are pretty horrible here. Their acting is better in mouse form, though.
As much as I like the spot-on characterization of the witches, they do become a mouthful very quickly and their overly theatrical manners turn the film tiresome for adult viewers.
The CGI is pretty clunky, and unfortunately, it is pretty prominent, especially after the first 30 minutes or so.
The Ugly:
That rash looks pretty bad.
WACPINE RATING: 5.57 / 10 = 3 stars
I can only imagine that this was better as a book. They really need to stop adapting novels when they don't know how to make them cinematic and actually enjoyable to watch on-screen.
What a tremendous piece of crap (shit).
Tamara Smart is pretty good but everything else about this movie is terrible. It made me feel bad for Draco Malfoy. I do not recommend for adults or for kids who like a story that makes any kind of sense.
I didn't recognise Tom Felton at all! I didn't recognise a great move either! Kids might enjoy it, but it was never as fun (or as scary) as it could have been.
Welp this movie was complete dog shit! AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The entire film felt like a sprint (to nowhere). Josh Gad was the only redeeming aspect. And if you expected the film or characters to be ANYTHING like the books, forget it. Disney, why? Just why?
Rubbish.
There's really not anything good about 'Artemis Fowl', except for the decent score perhaps. The premise is terrible and poorly told, not helped by the fact it takes itself pretty seriously for much of the 95 minute run time. The pacing is off, while the effects are meh. I haven't read the source material, so can't comment on that.
The cast don't work any wonders. Nothing personal against Ferdia Shaw but he isn't good in the lead role, I thought his age-mate Lara McDonnell did alright as Holly though. I like Josh Gad but his role here is bad, his narration is particularly ropey. Judi Dench's Julius is irritating too, while Colin Farrell and Nonso Anozie are underused.
A big misfire, unfortunately. Not the worst film I've ever seen though. They openly set up a sequel at the end, which I'd imagine won't be happening given the reaction to this - a situation like 2007's 'The Golden Compass' potentially.
