I wasted my 7 day free trial of Paramount+ watching this. I'd rather view DS9's 'Move Along Home' 13 times than have to watch this season again.

@finfan Ahhh. I'll not rush to watch SNW then. Picard S3 though is a better effort than the previous seasons. You came this far, may as well go all the way.

@finfan I did look for a review, but couldn't find one lol. The 5 you gave Strange New Worlds is a bummer though ☹

VIP4It is amazing to me how many people are complaining about "woke" stuff. Hating real accurate emotions. Oh no... WOKE...
Sad thing it isnt woke at all.. The primary design of Gene Roddenberry was to take REAL LIFE issues and display them, work with them, find solutions to them. In hopes that all the different people around the world can connect and find common ground. All the characters were designed around cultural difference we have in our own world. I do believe this show is exactly the design intended by Gene and Star Trek itself as expressed by Gene himself about Star Trek in the past.
If you are actually complaining about "wokeness" it isnt wokeness at all but showing/dealing with life itself. It is a real shame that those who default to "woke" are actually cowards themselves. They feel threatened about finding common ground with those in their orbit.
Also ... if you think Star Trek is "woke" you were and never will be a Trekkie, nor will you provide any use in a healthy society. You in essence are merely an even weaker version of Control. (to keep with the theme)
We are a planet of humans not a planet of strangers. If you think connection and understanding of ones differences is a bad thing? Then we are truly doomed as A race.

@himojukebox Star Trek was always rational, ‘science’ driven and NOT making decisions based on emotion. This is not the right series to portrait real life emotions
I am 50 years now, watched SW ANH the first time in the early 1980s.
This show did (so far) what I hoped the sequels would do.

VIP7@finfan I finished Season 2. I preferred Season 1, but I can tell the production quality is usually good. The story are complex enough for a series of that age and I always feel I am in space with the crew.
Already started Season 3 and I can tell the production value is increasing. My personal awards for S2:
Favourite episodes: 2x08 A Matter of Honor and 2x15 Pen Pals
Favourite aliens: The Borgs... but I don't know if we can call them aliens.
Favourite guest stars: Nikki Cox (Sarjenka from 2x15 Pen Pals), Suzie Plakson (K'Ehleyr from 2x20 The Emissary), Jaime Hubbard (Salia from 2x10 The Dauphin).
Favourite holodeck moments: Worf's rite of passage from 2x14 Icarus
Favorite moment: Riker confronting the Klingons in 2x08 A Matter of Honor
Funniest moment: Wesley asks Riker and Guinan how to deal with the girl he likes (2x10 The Dauphin)
Best story I wanted as a prominent subject: Time issues in 2x13 Time SquaredI haven't watched 2x12 The Royale, 2x18 Up the Long Ladder, 2x19 Manhunt and 2x22 Shades of Gray. I'll try to get to them eventually.

@finfan I read that Lwaxana was played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry! I'll catch the episode, then!
I missed Dr. Crusher too, I am happy to see her again on Season 3! I like her because she is deeper than other characters: she has a role on the crew, a very important one, but she's also a mother, so it's something different from Picard, Riker, ecc.
I read all your reviews from the episodes' comments, if you have something to add about my different point of view, I am interested in your opinion. Thank you, as always, for your replies!
I've watched each season of any Star Trek show more times than I can remember. The Next Generation was a show I rejected at first but with every time I watch it I embrace it more and more.
Yes, there are a lot of things debatable about the premiere season in terms of quality of the writing, continuity errors, character developement, actors performances to name a few. It is easy to critisize after the fact and with many years now gone. And even I am the first to admit that there are many cringe worthy or eye rolling moments in this first season. But remember, althought they had the original show to base it upon, they literally started with a white sheet of paper. Especially with the characters.
I also like to write a few words about the remastered HD version as I was initially oposed to that. Having now seen it I have to say it really looks great. The special effects are what most benefitted from the overhaul. They look much more crisp and detailed now. In general the picture looks great and I am amazed what they got out of the original source material. A minor negative is that the picture background looks very grainy at times especially if you're sitting close to your screen, whereas the important foreground is almost always amazingly clear. It also gets grainy when there is camera movement whereas static shots are really the best. But that is not really a downside. Brilliant and vibrant colours.
It is now easy to read the screens (which I did ocasionally). At the same time it is also easier to spot minor imperfections on the sets and props plus you sometimes spot the egdes of the make-up on characters. And it becomes really obvious now when a stunt double was used. But those are all not really flaws, nevertheless I thought I share this remarks.loading replies
@finfan I finished Season 1 and I must say I had a nice journey so far. The relationship between characters is so fresh and enjoyable: I feel like I would be part of the crew with no problem.
I was expecting more silly moments but I was wrong.
A note about the characters:
Riker is cool yet he is not presumptuous. Data is interesting and the differences between him and the humans are quite funny. Wesley is a little genius yet he remains humble. Deanna is interesting too, yet I feel like her traits need to be refined better. I liked Beverly, she is fascinating and very good with her job. I really hope she ends up with the Captain. Worf had his moments and I am sure we'll see more from him. Geordie is able to transform his handicap in an advantage, a great lesson for everybody. Tasha will be missed. I hoped to see her become a captain!
Picard is very different from Kirk and Janeway, the other captains I know. Can't pick up a favourite so far. Stewart is the most elegant one and I like that all of them are very passionate about their job.
My personal awards:
Favourite episode: Coming of Age (the tests for Wesley impressed me much)
Favourite aliens: the microscopic life forms from Home Soil and the Bynar Engineers
Favourite guest star: Elizabeth Lindsey
Favourite holodeck moments: "We'll always have Paris"\Saying goodbye to Tasha
Favorite moment: Picard confronting Armus
Funniest moment: Data losing his virginity ( I guess it was his first time)
Best story I wanted as a prominent subject: the derelict satellite from The Neutral Zone
That last season wasn't as bad as the previous one but still could not convince me the show deserved more. They had 12 seasons, almost 250 episodes, which is something few shows reach. There is a reason for that even if, from my point of view, the were past due at least 2 years. Even the ones before weren't outstanding. I loved the first 100 eps, the next 100 were OK, and the rest was pretty much a time filler. It really ended with the death of Sweets.
In any case I can now cross off the show from my watchlist. I am sure it won't find its way back on it again.loading replies
@finfan I agree with you 100%! The death of sweets was what caused the show to lose its spark
