really good and way better than what the trailer makes you think so. both main actors have great chemistry and I had a great time watching it. plus it's only 90 minutes so that def helps
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Little Mermaid’:
Halle Bailey IS Ariel. She was absolute perfection. From voice to vibe, she captured her essence impeccably. I believe a star has officially been born.
Melissa McCarthy had veryyy gargantuan tentacles to fill. And I think Pat Carroll would’ve been incredibly pleased with what she did with her sea witch.
I thought they built upon the original film’s story in all the right ways. Fleshing it out to make a little more sense. Providing more substance. While not everything was picture perfect, it worked and gave fresh magic to a beloved story.
Bonus Thought: I thought it was a fantastic movie to look at, especially under the sea. Gorgeous colors and visuals. Eye candy all around. And that includes Jonah Hauer-King. :pound_symbol:snack
This work is important, majestic, biblical, huge.
Sadly, a lot of time has passed since my last visit to a cinema and there couldn't have been a more appropriate movie to watch there.
In fact, I consider it important because watching Dune we are all reminded that we still cannot do without cinemas.
This piece of art shocks, us spectators, very hard for the sounds and music, the scenography, and the customs. To those who said they didn't feel particularly connected to the characters, I must say that I think it was intended to be this way.
This is one of the reasons I find this movie majestic and biblical because it's a bit like watching photographs from the past or watching a paint: you hardly empathize with the characters in it, but you're able to admire the beauty and you can still feel certain emotions.
But at the same time watching Dune is clearly a more immersive experience compared to watching a paint. It's a journey from the perspective of an omniscient narrator to a dystopian futuristic world, made of technology, tyranny, and sand
Taika Waititi is my favorite director, so I was really looking forward to this film, as I am with any of his movies. I have to say this one let me down a bit, but unfairly so. Before I saw the film I heard from people that it's the best film of the year to them, even better than Parasite (which I saw the other day and to me that became my number one of the year), so I was like oh man Jojo Rabbit is better than Parasite, what a great month to get 2 of the best films of the year. So I went in all hyped up. I did like the movie, it was funny in a way that only Taika is, but I was expecting something more, a gut punch, something to happen that made me think a different way. I still think it is a great movie, everyone should check it out if you like Taika's other movies.
Mockingjay Part 2's biggest mistake is being completely faithful to the book, considering that it is the worst one of the trilogy. They had the chance to make the story better but chose to stick to what they had. Being the final chapter of the story, it has emotional bits, but miserably (and unfortunately) fails to sell them, rushing the scenes which we were supposed to remember the most. However, its political and action turmoils are its best parts and were beautifully developed. After all, piecing the four movies together, it remains a good story.
a one man show in a weak Movie.
So much better than I thought it was going to be. I have to agree with @PopcornBucket, incredibly underrated.
If you're looking for an action and "turn brain off now" film, just don't watch it and spare us the 6-7 hearts review.
I for one, am very tired from 500$m crap like Indi Day and Marvel's poop. So I was very excited to watch this one.
This one is more like Spielberg's Encounters from the Third Kind. It's more about the characters in the film and the amazing journey they go through. It's mostly about the human behavior that will make you think.
While it's not an End of the World aliens movie like Battle: Los Angeles, it still offers great amount of military presence and plenty of stuff that's going on.
So if you actually want to care about an intelligent movie and use your head - go. Otherwise, go watch an X men.
Highly recommended for some audience 10/10.
2-feb-2017 edit: Just came out on Bluray and I saw it again. Definitely keeping my rating.
Watching again at July-2023, excited towards Dune II : Excellent. Excellent film. So called plot-holes listed here are negligible when the overall product is really thoughtful and masterfully crafted.
i was expecting to love this movie, but meh. kind of silly and over-acted, being shot with a machine gun dropping to the ground waving your legs in the air and then getting right back up sort of stuff. painful to watch at times - this is definitely not something i ever want to sit through again.
Visually stunning.
That's about all I have to say about this film. The story line was ridiculous, the acting was less than bearable, and for it's over two hour run time you would think that something would have connected. A random overacted film that could have used a lot more work in the story department.
I stayed for the visuals, but tuned out the story line.
