It's generally a fun show but I don't think it depict bdsm pretty well. There's several moments where the consent of some characters was totally overlooked :(
It was long at times, and a little inconsistent but overall a pleasant watching. The main couple were so in love, it was lovely to see. I also really liked the character of Rong Hao. His motivation during the whole drama was so clear and understandable even as it lead him to loose his innocence. His relationship with his master was truly beautiful, and I think the ending they got was perfect . However, what's up with romantic dramas ending up so abruptly every time? Can't we get some time to enjoy seeing the couple in love now that they've went through all of the difficult times? This is very frustrating..
I also didn't really like the 2nd couple, who seemed to be there just to fill a gap. Even more frustrating when considering that Chang Heng and Danyin had such good chemistry, especially at the end of the show. Them ending together would have been a hundred times better imo
I was so conflicted about the 1st season, but I'm so happy that the people making the show seems to have heard criticism because it really elevated the narrative! Absolutely loved the friendship break-up between Tiff & Pete . It felt very real
It could have been good but it just felt rushed and the plot was all over the place
Interesting show, well acted and well paced but I didn't like how Rachel was painted. No matter how much she used the story afterward to make money, she was still a victim. I felt like they were too nice toward Anna too. I get it, she's definitely interesting and someone from a low social class scamming rich people is a story a lot of us can get behind. But she also completely mistreated real people, who genuinely suffered from that. She's not some kind of Robin Hood
The story lacked a bit in the writing and acting areas, combined with an obviously low budget (the scene with the fake river was hilarious) but it also deserves to be praised for it's no-nonsense approach to romance and friendships. It was very lovely how the two main characters and their friends respected each other. They could have easily went down the road of a love triangle with Leng Yue, Chu chu and Xiao Jinyu but they didn't and it was far better for it.
Overall, it's pretty cute, but with a lot of untapped potential (probably because of its low budget).
Such a wonderful and hilarious show! The 1st episode pulled me in instantly and to my happy surprise, it just got better and better. I hope they're planning a 2nd season!
After seeing so many people being crazy about it, I decided to watch it. I expected something fun and not very deep like Free! (which I remember loving when the 1st season was released) but I wasn't able to watch more than the 1st three episodes and I was bored from the start to the end... Definitely a bit let down imo.
However, it's mostly a matter of taste. The animation is quite pretty so I assume people who have interest in skating might like it more than I did.
Overall, it's an interesting story about the different shapes that mourning can take. The main character (Karla) was very interesting, I really liked that she wasn't very likeable at times. Some parts were hilarious and very satisfying to watch (the woman whose mother was abusive breaking down at the funeral for example) .
However, I didn't really understand what was going on with her daughter and had a bit of trouble getting into the 2nd & 3rd episodes.
This show is surprisingly very good. I say "surprisingly"because it seems a bit cheesy at first glance. However the scenario is actually really interesting and the characters are all loveable.
I was highly exhausted to see comments about "politics ruining the show", though. First of all... Everything is political. But also, the way this show talks about human rights just makes it more rich, more interesting. It's very sad to rate a show that low just because your poor feelings were hurt when you realized the show was trying to make you think about other human beings :(
A really interesting show, that depict the conditions of (white) women a few centuries ago and the behaviour of (white) men toward them. I really enjoyed the pace and the mystery that surrounds the main character.
I think something that the show did well is show the behaviour of men. Except for Jeremiah, all the men are guilty of something and they all want something out of her/only see her like they want to. Even the doctor, who don't have any bad intentions toward Grace ends up hurting another woman. I also believe that Jamie said she was guilty during the trial because he saw she wasn't truly interested in him and was "avenging" himself and this is why she can't forgive him in the end. He also puts her in a very awful position after they're married as he forces her to recall traumatic events just... before having sex with her...
Anyway, the most logical conclusion for me is that she suffers of some kind of traumatic disorder and thinks of herself as Mary when she commits acts that might be reprehensible. Mary was such an important figure for her that Grace has lived her entire life wanting to accomplish Mary's dreams. She was the only person toward whom she could be truly open about things and losing her also meant going back to a situation of loneliness, without anyone to teach her about life and to listen to her. For me, the real trauma is not just the death of Mary but also the fact that she couldn't find another friend. I do wonder if Nancy's death is also linked to her not being the friend Grace thought she would be.
Unapologetically Queer and it's amazing
I really recommend this drama. At first, it really seems like it will be a normal slice of life drama but the plot involves a lot of really serious themes too. I really enjoyed how this drama talked about various subjects but without necessarily resolving the problems of the characters. The 1st season was really enjoyable but I preferred the 2nd season, especially because of Ji-won. Some things that we learn about her in the 1st season became really important for her plot in the 2nd season and it was done really nicely.
Be careful to watch the episodes until the end! There's usually a scene after the teaser for the next episode and it allows the viewers to have more details about the characters' personalities.
I really hope there will be a 3rd season because there's a lot of things unresolved, and a mysterious scene during one of the last episode. But the strength of this drama is also that they know how to let some problems and situations unresolved without it looking like bad writing or a mistake; it's just part of everyone's life.
I started this drama expecting the usual romance drama but i didn't expect it to be that homophobic. The sexism and psychophobia were unsurprising and expected but the homophobia... There's the usual straight guy who's mistaken to be gay and the homoerotic situations who are depicted as "funny" (because of course there can be no attraction between two "healthy" guys...) but there's also offensive comments and a character that was obviously solely created to be the pitiful and ridiculous gay guy with a one-sided romance.
The plot itself is nice and the chemistry between the main couple is fantastic; Bong soon and Minhyuk are both so cute and charismatic. I also loved the best friend of Bong soon. She's really expressive and pretty! However it's really not enough to forget about the constant mockery of mlm...
First I want to say something : THE RESUME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL DRAMA. I'm not sure why it's so wrong but it feels like it was written by someone who didn't actually watch the drama.
Anyways, it's my favorite drama. It's the 4th time that I'm watching it and it still so nice. The plot keeps you on your toes and the romance is super refreshing. All the cast suit their characters so well and they all have a really good chemistry with each other!
I watched it expecting the usual romance plot but the show also deal with a lot more subjects than this, though the romance is present and very sweet. I loved how Yoon-kang and Soo-in both had their own personalities and existed outside their relationship too. I loved how Soo-in seemed kind of quiet and the following type at first, only to appear much more strong willed as the episodes unfold.
I don't know if it's historically accurate or not but I was surprised that the political plot was much more complex than what expected : the characters aren't necessarily all bad or all nice and are all following their own ideals rather than being there just for the main character.
Even the "ennemies" had strong backstory that made me feel compassion toward them.
However, this drama could have been so much more if they had avoided some parts of the plot that made some episodes too dense. Sang-mi Nam, acting as Soo-in, also have a peculiar way of acting, that I was already familiar with but that can be uncomfortable to watch for some, especially in the first episodes.
Special mentions for Joon-gi Lee and Hye-bin Jeon who are both fantastic to watch!
I'm surprised at seeing so much good comments, honestly.
I'm at the 45th episode and... well, it's just not that good. Fullmetal Alchemist was my 1st manga serie and I love it so much but I just don't really find the same spirit in this anime?
It's not that bad per se but it's deeply lacking if you compare it to the manga, especially with the character of Winry : it's like they totally forgot that she's also a badass. It's really frustrating.
I wouldn't say that it's a bad anime though. I really like the pacing and the show focus a lot on the relationship between Elric brothers which is definitely a good thing. The animation is also really satisfying.
Anyway, I'm going to watch Brotherhood soon and I hope I'll be more contented ~
I'm a little torn on what to think of this drama. On one hand, it overuse clichés (rich & poor lovers, back-hugs, evil mother-in-law...) and has a really bad plot and on the other hand, it's still a little bit fun (if not taken seriously) and all the actors and actresses seems at ease with each other.
It's really frustrating sometimes : the heroine is always silenced by everyone, she doesn't even seems interested by the main character, they both have nothing in common, the main character is not really bright and act egoistically, he always smashes lips ("kiss") with Eun Sung without asking her or putting a mood and the attempts at putting more depth in the plot fails tragically.
However, some of the supporting characters are really funny (Lee Bona and her boyfriend for ex) and the length is enough that I wasn't completely bored.
This show isn't bad, even though the realisation is far from perfect and aged a little badly. It sure does respect the book more than the movie did and the criticism of the society is really well done. I'm a little curious about the choice of the actress playing Jane, who is supposed to be the most beautiful girl of the family but looks a little bit awkward in this show.
However, my biggest criticism is the lack of chemistry between Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, which makes it difficult to understand why they would fall in love with each other.
