I had a day to gather my thoughts and I think I need to watch this again. This movie is a hot mess. The script seems so bare bones, but with so many opportunities to be biased at the same time, combined with terrible actors.
The first death, Lindsey, is shown as the girl walking home alone at night, but when she is attacked she barely tries to escape, instead deciding to stick around instead of calling security or running away. Boom, dead.
Riley, an abuse victim, is studying at a university with a long history steeped in the appreciation of men. She was sexually assaulted 3 years prior by the former head of another frat house who drugged and raped her. Unfortunately she never sought therapy, and all her sorority sisters either don't acknowledge it or tell her in so many words to get over it, coercing her into joining their shit dance number as their 4th with the knowledge that her abuser is there.
Riley seems to have some history with her teacher who singles her out during class, blaming her for a petition to fire him. In reality it is her social justice warrior friend begging students to sign the petition. She is loud and proud, however, stomps all over riley throughout the movie. She's a terrible friend.
In the sorority house, there is evidence of strange happenings but no one except Riley acknowledges it. For almost the entire movie the cat is missing. Girls are bring attacked and going missing but no one takes it seriously. Riley goes to campus security and is almost comically shut down. The guard even tries to say, boys will be boys. We get it, the movie is feminist, but just stop shoving it down our throats.
The bodies of the deceased are hidden around the school but no one even finds them until the climax. The actual twist of the movie was pretty good. I really liked it, but the getting there was so terrible and garbage. Even the camera work is shit and I don't get whats going on with the sound and echoing.
There's one particular scene where the girl with the cat gets choked and when the bad guy pulls the christmas lights around her neck, the camera abruptly zooms in like it was done post production. The same effect youtubers use for comedy.
There's a bust of the school founder and when put in a specific frat house, it activates the spirit of the founder, who encourages men to behave like alphas. Their hazing ritual includes reciting a Latin inscription and smearing a black liquid on the pledge which possesses him with the spirit of the founder. Riley has an opportunity to destroy it but just chooses to do everything so slowly.
I feel like this movie is terrible but I'm not sure.
A secret room in the house where everything you wish for just appears. While the pitch is interesting, the scenario is not really exploiting it.
Yeah they get crazy, money (that they don't even try to use), great clothes, great food, famous art, etc. But they go over that in just a few days. While never even once taking something outside, really ? I mean it's not like the process takes a while, it disappears in a few seconds so that means they never did it even once! So what was the point of all this money ?
Then comes the main and only story, Kate wishes for a kid. And well, that's not very interesting. The final part, though totally expected, brings a little action and tension, but not enough to make it a good movie.
There could have been some research on how it works or where it comes from, but we're just being told that Matt is doing that, is obsessed by that even, that's it. No real insight on what he's doing or how or if he gets a lead or something, no history, no metaphysics stuff, nothing.
There could have been some exploration of what the room can do, ho far can it go, you can see the possibilities when Shane creates a whole outside, but not exploited either. Can it create things that do not exist ?
There could have been a price to pay that comes later. Nope.
There's a storyline with the previous owners of the house that could have led to interesting things just to find out that they did exactly the same thing, so not much interest here either.
So a great concept, but turns out the movie is barely using it, such a waste.
Once again, the actors doing impressions/playing against type is the best thing the film has going for it.
Jack Black stole the last movie, this time that award goes to Kevin Hart (first two acts) and Awkwafina (final third).
Having said that, the movie that's build around the impression comedy isn't as good, nor fun, as last time.
The story takes the T2 approach of making a sequel, i.e. switch the roles that everyone plays, and keep the story the same.
Unfortunately, the approach can't save the film from its own poor choices regarding the filmmaking.
The action in this is quite poor, to which some people will undoubtedly respond: well, it's supposed to be cheesy.
To be fair, I probably would've given a pass for it if there was an analog charm to it, but I just refuse to do that for lazy, digitized ugliness.
Moreover, the comedy isn't as sharp and witty as it was before.
Surprisingly, there's a lot of reliance on slapstick, which almost makes it feel like this was made for a younger demographic than the last one.
There's not a single scene that matches Karen Gillan's outstanding seduction scene from the previous film.
Also, there's a lot of expository dialogue that shouldn't be there.
Finally, the ending begs for comparisons to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom , which makes me go: out of anything you could've done, why on earth would you willingly choose to go there?
4.5/10
Skimming other reviews of this film elsewhere, I've seen accusations of slow pacing, bad writing, unrealistic characters… For every reviewer who found the movie amazing, it's almost like that had to be balanced out by someone else who couldn't stand it.
Someone will have to balance out my review, then, because I need more films like Leave No Trace in my life.
Sometimes, if a movie leaves me wondering what actually happened, it's a sign of incoherent writing, or editing. Other times—as with Leave No Trace—it means I wasn't paying close enough attention to the details. And no, I'm definitely not in the segment of moviegoers who would argue that it's the filmmaker's job to make sure I know what's happening. Nothing smacks of "inexperienced director" like hitting me, the viewer, over the head with a plot point several times to make sure I got it.
Fortunately there's none of that in Leave No Trace. I've been meaning to watch Winter's Bone for some time, but I'll have to bump it up a few slots on the ol' watchlist after seeing this. If the two films share any of the same DNA (and they do, in the form of writer and director Debra Granik), I'll love that one too.¹ I can't get enough of this storytelling technique, where the characters just…exist, and don't stand there explaining what's happening (or what happened before now) for the audience's benefit.
Not everyone appreciates this style of "expositionless" storytelling, to be sure. One IMDB reviewer said "it seemed this [movie] had a beginning, beginning and beginning."² But those of us who relish poking fun at the "exposition dumps" traditional screenplays often throw out really love being left to our own interpretations of characters' words and actions. Or at least… I do.
This isn't an easy movie to watch, really. I wouldn't throw it up to relax after a hard day. The subject matter gets too deep for that, I think. But it is very much worth the journey. Along with those critical accusations I mentioned earlier, numerous reviewers also called this film insightful, thought-provoking, and uncomfortable. I agree with all of those, at least on some level. Scenes that might seem kind of throwaway at first (the church service, say) always turned out to be plot-relevant in the end.
Leave No Trace is slow and quiet at times, but it's never boring.

This movie feels a lot like Jaws even though it has different story line - the essence is the same.
Lots of cliches but if you see it with the mindset that you want to be entertained for couple of hours - go for it, otherwise you will not enjoy it. Nothing spectacular as far as cinematography goes, so don't waste your money on premium screenings. It has few jump scares, also people were eaten (as it should be expected).
The prescreening that I attended was in 3D but besides couple of into your face moments the 3D didn't bring much to the table.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of funny jokes which made the movie more enjoyable.
Fun Fact: Something that I noticed and it bugged me a lot: after the intro of the movie there was a scene with a helicopter flying over the ocean, near cliffs. Whoever added the helicopter digitally was an amateur - the proportions were so bad. You could clearly see the ripples, the waves crushing into the cliff and if you've been near real ocean you can judge how close the camera to them is but the helicopter was so small that it looked the size of a drone when compared to the ocean ripples. They probably wanted to make it look like the helicopter was far in the distance and that the ocean is vast but it was a poor attempt. Reminds me of a stock photo from a reputable site that was a beach and palm trees. I enlarged the ocean water to use as a background (graphic design job) and I saw the pool tiles clearly - someone had stitched the photo. This helicopter was even worse!
when I first so the trailer & the pitch of this movie I espect something simple & short as very often ( almost always bad movies in this category )

I had watching this movie 1h 40 minutes of pleasure great it's not often
I thought Ex Machina was (although flawed) an excellent movie, Annihilation was just crap though. Apart from the outfits, there was nothing even remotely military about any of them, the whole thing just didn't know where it was going or why, it was a huge confused mess. It probably would have made a good TV episode in an anthology show, but just not enough there to make a decent film. It put me in mind of Arrival (easily the worst sci-fi movie of recent times), low-brow junk masquerading as high-brow gold. Both were designed from the ground up to make stupid people think they are really smart. If a film is advertised as 'highly intelligent' they should at least be moderately intelligent, but this doesn't even come close. The fact the ending is somewhat ambiguous and there are several different theories about it doesn't mean the film is cleaver, it just means the ending has more than one interpretation. I'm not saying films should spoon feed you all the answers, in fact, I hate when that happens, It's great being able to contemplate a movie and it's meanings after the fact, the problem here is it gives you so little of worth to actually think about.
This sort of film gives films a bad name. Netflix told the story first and told it better. It's almost as if the producers said, "Hey, look at this Netflix series. We can do far worse than this!"
Loving Pablo opens with Columbian journalist Virginia Vallejo (Penélope Cruz) laughing upon learning it's illegal for American hotels to give guests aspirin. She adds, "Pablo (Escobar) would laugh, too. And then he would kill you." WTF!? Why would he kill me? Because American hotels can't give aspirin, because of the irony of drug problem in the U.S., or because he's laughing? Sadly, this kind of lazy writing spreads to all areas of the film.
Inside the first 3 minutes of the Loving Pablo (the title sounds like it's a romantic memoir by one of Picasso's wives) we have this ridiculous intro, are shown Pablo Escobar's (Javier Bardem) terrible prosthetic stomach (it honestly looks as though they took a prosthetic pregnancy bump and painted hair on it), and discover that Pablo Escobar, his Columbian wife, a famous Columbian journalist, the Columbian Minister of justice, the Columbian Senate...are all going to speak English throughout the entire film. I repeat: WTF!?
Add to these problems a script that is, at its absolute best, unremarkable but is frequently so clunky it hurts your ears, and a habit of showing the aftermath of the action but never the action itself. All of this combined makes me think the film was written and made by a pack of rabid filmmakers who were nose deep in "research" of Escobar's national product, and what we have here is s cautionary tale about how badly a drug addled mind works.
Just say, "No", kids.
The story, the pitch:
Chained for a distant planet on the opposite side of the galaxy, the crew of the Covenant colony discovers what they think is an unexplored paradise, but is actually a dark and dangerous world - the only inhabitant of which is the "synthetic" David, Survivor of The Prometheus Condemned Expedition
It stupid story and the aliens are really less scary compared to other Alien (especially with the beautiful Sygourney Weaver) at least the first three aliens really given the scare, the scare. (And there were less special effects at that time)
More light the film is really bad dark fixing to review! ! ! No suspense either! ! !
I give for the moment a score of 4 for this film very dark, neither queens nor heads
I found the movie Alien Convenant on the ADDON ALLUC with kodi
And please in French (average quality) I find the film very dark lighting to review ...
And especially very commercial ... I do not think it is Ridley Scott who is making this film ... For the moment it is a real wounded ....
Compared to alien with Sigourney Weaver nothing to see ... The first few minutes are without any interest ...
=======================================================================================
