They drained the wondrous world of Artemis Fowl of all its charm, wit, and heart. It fell flat on its face, and it never got back up.
This maybe an okay watch for a pre-teen audience but it is totally devoid of any creativity, adventure, mystery, drama or depth. I kept waiting for it to get better. It never did. I give this film a 5 (meh) out of 10.
I don't get nearly as excited about the MCU as I used to (mostly because they're churning out movies and TV shows at a rate that I just can't keep up with), but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Definitely worth watching.
Some loose thoughts/things I enjoyed below (spoilers are marked):
- the story is good, the 2nd act is kind of slow, but it picks up towards the end
- the fight scenes are super cool and creative (especially the one on the bus and the one on the scaffolding)
- I liked the way they utilized the rings in fights, it felt really fresh and like something we haven't seen before
- the final battle is actually awesome (monkey brain loves big monsters and explosions)
- the cast is excellent (I'm particularly thrilled to see Awkwafina getting more recognition)
- the soundtrack is beautiful and I love the way they used traditional Chinese melodies
- badass women all around (Michelle Yeoh my beloved)
- impeccable CGI
- some gorgeous scenery
- MORRIS
- loved the callback to the Mandarin mess from Iron Man 3
- Brie Larson cameo (I know the fandom has collectively decided to hate her, but I don't care, that was a treat for me and me only)
- Xialing effectively utilizing girl power by taking over her father's crime empire (I feel like there was definitely some comic book reference flying over my head there but who cares). My friend and I joked that she'll be getting a Disney+ series shortly
Overall, it was a treat. Strongly recommend.
The action sequences were solid, particularly the martial arts, and the casting and acting were also fine but the script is a mess, the pacing is off, and the second half feels goofy and disjointed from the first half. The second half action was difficult to follow and felt like a DC cluster f--- aimed at the Chinese market. HOWEVER, I am looking forward to seeing Shang-Chi utilized in the future films.
This movie was FABULOUS! China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) and Kelli Berglund (Lab Rats) were the perfect she-geeks, and the rest of the cast also did quite well. The plot kept me wondering, and the ending was very sweet. This DCOM makes me proud to be a Disney Channel fan.
Content Concerns:
Sex: Flirting; one near-kiss. 4/5
Nudity: Shirtless guy; girls in short shorts and off-the-shoulder dresses. 4/5
Language: Name-calling, at worst. 4/5
Violence: A brief human/robot fisticuff; a robot self-destructs; some rough-and-tumble sports action. 3/5
Drugs: None. 5/5
Frightening/Intense Scenes: Some emotional intensity. 4/5
Score: 5/5
Hands down the worst movie ever!
I have watched the movie twice.
The first time was when it just came out, and the other one was just now. in 2009, this was just a shame. It was a terrible movie because we all loved DBZ and DB, both animé and manga. The adaption is sheit. Goku isnt a kid, he's 18. The love interests are going way to fast and the story is very unclear at some points.
In 2022 we are more used to alternate realities and universes because of the Marvel movies. As most adaptions should be watched with alternative eyes, for this movie you really need that. You need to let go of the story Akira Toriyama created we loved so much.
Its not a bad movie per say, it's just cheap.
Cheap CGI, cheap writing and cheap actors. I think the best actor of them all was Jamie Chung as Chi Chi, but the character also was the best written one.
They really butchered the original story with this movie. What a joke.
it's a stupid movie but it has very good scenes
I tried so hard to finish the movie and not to fall asleep, and in the end it proves to be a wrong decision....what a movie...with a beginning but no twist, climax and end.
*Funny and heartwarming.*
The Pacifier is a funny family friendly movie that the whole family will enjoy. It is appropriate for all age ranges while still remaining humorous and compelling. I usually do not sit through entire films and was able to easily watch The Pacifier starring Vin Diesel.
Vin Diesel is hired to protect a family of high energy children while their mother goes away for a short time. The film is easy to watch and I found myself smiling several times. Vin Diesel allows himself to be vulnerable but still show a strong heart and compassion. Its worth a watch and we all enjoyed it!
My score 6/10.
Good enough, if nothing standout.
'The Sorcerer’s Apprentice' is an interesting film. The premise isn't anything revolutionary, it follows the same beats that a load of these sorta films do; I recall 'Bulletproof Monk' and 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief' having similar-ish set-ups.
That's not to say it isn't enjoyable, as I did like it. Nicolas Cage always manages to entertain one way or another, while Jay Baruchel works well for the comedic stuff in particular. Alfred Molina makes another live-action Disney appearance, following on from 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' two months prior. He's solid, but better in the latter.
The special effects are excellent, I really enjoyed seeing it all come to life onscreen. The score is decent, though the pacing could've been finer. Overall, it's a film I just about feel satisfied with. Worth a watch? Sure.
One of his last good movies before he just took anything he could get...
I was really disappointed by this sequel. I enjoyed the first movie as it developed the theme of polishing a diamond in the rough, an unlikely but likeable hero, with wit and clever direction and writing. This second film did the opposite, it celebrated the crass and the writing was bad - there were huge holes in the story lines, and the character arches were undeveloped or fractured by missing/unwritten elements. The heros and villians were silly without comedic intent. The only bright spots were Taron Epstein, Mark Strong and Haille Berry's rapport, and Jeff Bridges. Colin Firth's character was butchered by the writers, Elton John' s part was unnecessary, unexplained and poorly executed, This movie is just BAD, and a waste of time. I give it a 3 (bad) out of 10. [Comedy?, Action, Adventure, Spy}
Never played the video game, but I enjoyed this film suitably.
It has flaws, though there's enough to like about 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'. I rate Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor, while I don't think he's perfect for this role I did enjoy his performance all in all. The special effects are neat, especially for the dagger. The support cast are satisfactory, Alfred Molina being the standout behind Gyllenhaal.
The premise is a pretty fascinating one, but I don't feel there is enough there for a near 2hr production. It felt, a number of times, that the story was going round in circles and overextending itself in order to fill the run time, there are many times where 'A' runs from 'B', 'B' finds 'A' instantly, 'A' gets away. In many different guises, but it kept happening.
Could've been far greater, but I still come away from viewing this fairly positively.
Another prime example of how a cleverly edited trailer with a big name attached can mislead you.
Probably the longest 104 minutes of my life.
What a disappointment! I had a feeling the sequel would not be as good as the original, but damn.
The Barbershop scene was the best part of the entire film.
This was a lazy pointless remake of the original movie it was very fitting in the movie they made a point to mention long sequels to movies nobody asked for this movie fits perfectly. This is a retread of the original movies story recon and everything. I had zero expectations for this film and knew this would be no were near the classic original in terms of quality the jokes in this new movie were bad the woke sjw politics were not nessesary and just annoying. This is a insult to the classic original and shouldn't have happened. The barber shop scene was the only good sequence till the white jewish character started saying we are being taken over by nazis a dig at trump obviously. I am not a trump supporter at all and find this sequence annoying political bs. The way akeem had a son was a stupid lazy way to recon the original and continue the story. The new actors were annoying I don't recommend this trash to anyone the movie is predictable woke trash.
The Monkey King was a bit goofy but seeing all the Monkey King movies around these days. I now know, he's supposed to be goofy. He was my only problem with this otherwise fun adventure. That unites Jackie Chan and Jet Li in a Neverending Story meets Karate Kid meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon like Fantasy/Kung-Fu film.
A mediocre TV movie at best.
There is an Alex Rider TV series that came out this year (2020) that is much better - if you get the chance watch that instead.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
This must be the B Grade pantomime version of Alex Rider. Terrible accent, can't understand his mumblings. Stopped watching within half-hour.
Badly plotted action pic is boring and dated. The kind of film you could have picked up in your local video store in the 90's, though you would have been disappointed even then.
Can someone give better scripts to Bruce and Nicolas? Such amazing actors. Such crazy movies.
This movie in a sentence , "If Bollywood had a bigger budget."
(No offense, but there are way better movies you should be watching instead of whatever this was. Also, Bollywood does make some gems like Article 15, so don't crucify me please. Aight, wash your hands, stay indoors and watch smth better)
A totally forgettable superhero movie. It has ok action. The technology and effects are kinda cool to look at sometimes. The plot is basic and dull. Vin Diesel is just doing what he normally does, love it or hate it.
In the opening scenes the viewer is expected to believe a couple things right off the bat; first being that after surviving 100 years following the apocalypse on a space station, beauty care product synthesization has been perfected, and there is apparently plenty of electricity for blow dryers and curling irons -- not to mention lots of water for hair washing and conditioning. On the other side of the scale: overuse of medical supplies is punishable by death.
Take scene 1 for example: teen aged girl, blond highlights & dark roots, lots of mascara and eye shadow -- and she's in space-station-prison. Dressed in teen-Gap spacewear, she must have traded her exercise time for peroxide and hair foil, because after 100 years, there's plenty of that stuff onboard.
No shortage of hair product -- plenty of gel and mousse for all the men and women of the 100 year old space station. And speaking of the men, apparently there's an abundance of shaving stuff as well, making it possible to maintain a shave-every-day standard in space. Amazingly, even the young men sent to earth who are struggling through a radiated danger-filled jungle just to find the food locker manage to remain cleanshaven. Similarly, all the girls keep perfectly arranged hair, and manage to change their eyeshadow colors in that same jungle. Clever way to convey the passage of time, change eyeshadow colors. All this without carrying a single supply box, bag, or container of any sort off the ship they landed in.
The genre of SciFi should be offended, but then again, it's CW ;-)
Anyone else considering ditching this? Feels like the plot is really dragging :/
It's mostly some high school drama but with FBI agents. It's a decent enough time-waster.
